But either way, the Howard performance was abysmal mainly because of Ohio .... not because Howard is really good.

This is not you saying Ohio is bad? I misunderstood then. What I said was we aren’t bad. We had key injuries and played a team that was well coached and played their best game when we did not. It happens, but I don’t think Howard is that bad. We will see how mighty Kent State plays the rest of the season, but them whipping a worn out Howard team doesn’t impress me. You brought up the Kent State game to show how bad Howard is. By that thinking Kent State should beat us right?

Again ... that in no way was me saying Ohio is bad. You inferred that (incorrectly). I simply said Ohio played a really bad game against a far inferior opponent.

No ... I don't think Kent is good. They'll be lucky to win 4 games this year.

No ... I do not think Kent should beat us.

Yes ... losing by 40 to Kent does show me how inferior Howard is.

Yes ... once again, Ohio played down to an inferior opponent. It's a recurring theme of the Solich era.

I guess we agree more than I thought. My main point is that the Howard team that Kent played was not the same Howard team that we played. But I agree with you that we didn’t play well regardless. Here’s to hoping the Bobcats play like we know they are capable of this week.

This generally seems to be the case, ha! Many are quick to jump me for bashing the Bobcats and saying they stink. Maybe looking for another Monroe? I don't know.

I just call them as I see them. This team & program has it's flaws ... and there are some (sometimes a lot) that refuse to acknowledge them or even admit some exist.

That's cool ... their prerogative.

I think I've made it clear how much I support this program ... I just have a desire to see it grow. We saw them move past the Knorr/Lichtenberg disaster (sandwiched around Grobe success) into the super-successful Solich era.

I'd like to see them now take that next step and become a consistent MAC champion and Top 25 entrant. And when I point out disappointments along that journey, I get labeled a "Bobcat hater" by some.

The irony is ... Frank and I agree on this:

" ... we're closer and closer to being the kind of football team that can break into the Top 25, that can win MAC Championships. That's the next step for our program"

That's Frank after the Bahamas Bowl.

Literally couldn't say it better myself.

But when I hold them accountable for not doing what it takes to take that next step ... I get crucified by some.

Oh well. I'll continue to cheer them on ... in person in Athens, Charlottesville, Nashville, Cincinnati and wherever else the road may take them this year just as I have in years past in Lawrence, Knoxville, College Park, Morgantown and all across the #MACtion nation.

Even though I think they stink ;-)   😉

You will "cheer them on." Can not think of an example of you praising the team or even a player. You are most usually calling out the coaches for letting some inferior opponent succeed beyond what should have been allowed. Never a good job by us or them. You are as dependable as Monroe. Sorry, just calling it as I see it.

Yes you are. And that is why many on this board choose to ignore you.

Guess I just don't have the will power to let it slide this time.

Drink up! #GreenKoolAid

... and just for the record. But you keep doing you, Bcat2!

I feel like some folks on this board would really benefit from reading the book "Good to Great" and realize it's wonderful being good...but you CAN be so, so, so, so, so, so much better if you recognize your flaws and execute changes to fix those flaws.

Ohio is a good football program. There is no doubting that. It CAN be a great one if it would get out of it's own way and tweak things. They are on the right track, which is 100% better than where they were. You could argue they weren't even in the stadium and running in the wrong direction before Frank got to Athens.

Pure genius here. You always, coach, strive, work for more, to be better. Some on this board will never give credit across the field. Every disappointment is the result of some failure they will find with their critical and 20/20 hindsight. So how does Ohio need to get out of it's own way? What needs tweaked? There is another book, "More Than Winning." Book describes a process which, I believe, coach Solich and Ohio agreed was what they wanted for Bobcat football. You infer Solich and staff do not review everything they do to find ways to improve. I doubt there are many programs that do more self assessment. Again, Ohio needs to get out of it's own way and tweak things. Don't just throw that out. Please, how?

I don't know why I'm wasting my time ... but let me try.

Maybe start with eliminating the terrible losses to inferior opponents each year ...

2018 - CMU (homecoming), Akron (with MAC East in line), at Buffalo

2017 - Texas St, EMU

2016 - WMU, UB

Etc.

They happen every year. Good programs lose occasional games like this ... great programs rarely do. Ohio not there yet.

But I'm sure you'll have some super-duper positive response to those losses and ask us to credit the greatness of Texas St.

And with that I'm done. Been down this road too many times with you. Dust off your pom-pom and pour a tall, cold glass of the green koolaid.

Keep pitting Bobcat fans vs. you if they don't think everything is absolutely fantastic. You thrive in that role.

"terrible losses" So sorry the team, coaches and players made you suffer so. Surely you are entitled to better. You carry the heaviest baggage since Monroe. My bags are packed with the recent good games when the Bobcats have well represented Ohio. More wins than losses. I do not count the Western Michigan game as a "terrible loss."

So, you count the other games listed by bshott44 as "terrible losses"?

Thanks for calling me out on that. No. Not "terrible." Though, there are some losses I end up actually proud of the team. WMU was one of those. The others, not "terrible" but not like the WMU game. Perhaps the EMU game.

Of course you would be proud of a 49-14 home loss.

You never cease to impress

OK. My bad. I was referring to the WMU L 29-23 on the 16-17 schedule, you the game on the 15-16 schedule. You are right, Not following that was weak.

Yeah ... the MAC title game loss was FAR from a terrible loss.

You are right ... I was referring to the back-to-back beatdowns 5-1 Ohio took at home vs. WMU and then on the road in Buffalo. Those would fall under terrible losses. Not necessarily because they lost the game ... but more in the manner in which they lost. Just total head scratchers in a lot of different ways. The kind of head scratchers this program has been throwing out there on a yearly basis. That was my point. They didn't lose 49-14 to WMU because WMU was 35 points better ... that was a self-inflicted loss. Great programs don't suffer 35-point home losses in the league. They just don't.
