@ South Alabama

Kind of surprising, no? South Alabama finished 2nd in SBC regular season went 21-12 overall.

South Alabama returns two key rotational players in Peyton Law (6'7, averaged 13ppg) and Randy Brady (6'9, averaged 6ppg and 6rpg). Also added a lot of size in the portal on the international front and lower levels. I counted 8 players 6'6 and up.

If anyone recalls Jalen Langsley, the NAIA guard who put video game shooting numbers that our staff was following; also landed at South Alabama through the portal. Assuming this is our opener again, challenging start for a new group.

Surprised we haven't seen more game leaks this summer. By this time last year, we almost had our entire non-conference out prior to the official release on 8/21.

I wonder if we will play Prairie View A&M. Lot�s of times these schools make the rounds of opponents in the same general geographic area. There is a very interesting connection between PVAM and Athens County, specifically the Village of Albany, that I�ll try to get written up in the OU Post if we play them.

Take away Buffalo and UMass and likely Miami as I bet that gets flexed to Friday, we're still left with Saturday home games with students in session against NC A&T, Eastern Michigan, Central Michigan, Ball State, and the Sun Belt challenge. None of those MAC games strike me as shoe-in matchups for a Friday night flex, but I haven't checked what other games are happening in the MAC those days. Saturday home games are important.

With a 22 game MAC round robin, we're really looking at only four or five games yet to be announced.

Yea. This new format has to be limiting options for non-conference opponents. So many teams are in tournaments heading into Thanksgiving and we really only have the second week in December and the last to fill games. Hopefully, we still have some quality games in the works.

For sure, but we have NCA&T on the 7th and Purdue on the 13th. A lot of (desirable) opponents are in destination tournaments that week going into Thanksgiving.

Just doesn't seem like a lot of wiggle room all things considered, but it is what it is.

I do hope we have a game with PVAM, for the reasons hinted at in an earlier post. It's a really interesting connection. In fact, it's possible that without it there would be no PVAM at all.

Ted/Ryan - FYI the Feb 2 game at Buffalo shows as a home game on this site.

Unfortunately our week of 2 huge home games (Akron & Umass) are BEFORE students are back from winter break. That's a big bummer. From Jan 9 to Feb 20 we have 6 Saturday games in 7 weeks. As Shab mentioned, some will be flexed to Friday. The home opener is during Dads weekend, and SBC challenge game us during Subs weekend. Both strong developments. Could be a really strong attendance year, especially if the student section can build off the incredible final home game of last season.

Not much to analyze schedule wise with a full round robin. End of Jan is a brutal stretch of @ Umass, @ Akron, and home vs Miami. Following that is probably our easiest stretch before ending with @ Miami and @ Toledo (with BG at home in between).

According to D1 Docket, the non-D1 game is against Bryant & Stratton College out of Buffalo, NY on Dec. 29.

I have no idea if this is the reason, but with 13 teams the MAC slate has to start early and have byes for everyone scattered because there are an odd number of teams. If the MAC hands you a schedule and you decide that you want a game on a very specific date in those byes but prefer easy games during the MAC slate, well, probably negotiations on November and early December games have been ongoing even if yet to be finalized, but suddenly finding someone that is willing to do a buy game on short notice on that exact date when a most dates are also unavailable after early December for almost everyone, your choices might become very, very limited.

Yea, for sure. I mentioned this above as a concern for non-conference scheduling. We�ve been pretty good about destination tournaments/MTE�s in recent seasons. With MAC games bleeding into December, getting one of those in around Thanksgiving seems more vital than before moving forward.
