Looks like he won't be a Bobcat.

As already mentioned, Vandy is at their schollie limit. For now. Could change after the NIT ends? Great school if you have the grades to get into grad school there which requires amazing academic ability.

I don’t he was ever going to happen. I look at the Merrimack, Coastal Carolina, and Monmouth guys + the D2 wings as realistic targets and are obtainable for us. But I’ll definitely let myself be gladly eat crow to land some of the bigger targets.

I'm with ya, I think we gotta rethink the way we recruit. We've had some recent success, but we're still lacking when it comes to swing players or big men.

I mean the #1 rebounder in D2 is 6'9" from France. I know Ohio isn't all that exotic when it comes to recruiting foreigners, but have we ever had an international player? Ndour by way of NY..? KVK..?

I'm not saying we need to, or its even feasible, to build a roster of D2 all-stars, but Tommy Shmock was no push over. Lets fill that bench. Shooters shoot. Lets get out there and woo some 25 a night guy in D2. Like Preston, talent is out there, we just have to be creative and go find it.

I've gone down quite the rabbit hole, but THIS is the kinda guy I'm talking about...

Nordin Kapic, Freshman for LYNN, 6'8" 240 from Vienna, Austria.

19.4 points / 10.3 rebounds / 2 assists

38% from 3
53% from FG
2 fouls per game
30+ minutes a night

Can you get me half that a night in the MAC? Can someone put me in touch with Thornton?

Bradley Dean from UVA Wise, conference player of the year, 34 MPG, 21.4 PPG as a sophmore (listed as a sophmore, but has played 3 years? maybe injury RS?) on 49% FG, 43% 3FG on high volume. Looks like the guy can absolutely light it up. Took a ton of shots and made a ton as well.

https://uvawisecavs.com/sports/mens-basketball/roster/bra...

Can't find much video on him, but from the short clips I've seen, looks like an Ajay Sheldon clone. Listed at 6'2", 165 lbs. and can shoot the ball. Not sure how well his athleticism would translate on this level, but shooting is the strength.

I'd think this is probably a due diligence contact by our staff in case any guards would leave. Not sure where he would fit unless Miles, Sheldon, or god forbid any of the three presumed starters would bounce out of here in the next week. Let's hope that doesn't happen. Can never have enough ball handling and shooting though, and this guy has it.

BONUS: he is Mac Mcclung's HS teammate. Mac won the NBA slam dunk contest a month ago, and Bradley was a part of one of the dunks.

Shammah Scott, 6'2 sophomore PG from Wichita State transferring to Akron. Seems like he is likely a lock to replace Garvin Clarke / Kobe Mitchell for the Zips.

I don’t disagree and I do think it’s worth exploring D2 to plug roster holes; specifically for bigs/forwards. I also agree on recruiting internationally (if we can make that happen). I pointed our earlier in the thread; that Mostafa is the second Coastal Carolina player in as many portal seasons we’ve recruited. Last year it was the 6’6 Swedish PG named Dibba.

Find out how Coastal is getting these guys to begin with. Maybe it’s an additional staffer (no idea if there’s a budget for this). But yea, I’m totally for utilizing top D2 talent to build our roster. Gates is the only D2 player I’ve seen anything about us contacting.

That said, I know Boals and Lamar both follow (players following back) Jaylen Wells, Daniel Sofield, and Tim Smith Jr. (link below, I’ve already shared info on Wells and Sofield). All are 6’7 types. Wells was recently named 3rd Team All-American for D2. Seems to have the most upside.

I really hate having just one year of eligibility in a transfer, but I guess in this era one is better than none.

For sure. Wells is a sophomore; so if D2 is the path we go I’d also prefer multiple years.

I'd say Coastal's location would give them an advantage over Ohio in landing international players.

Big blow for NIU as they lose Darweshi Hunter to the portal. He was the their best three point shooter last year, percentage wise.

That guy has moved around a ton. As a high school senior, at times, looked like the most valuable player on a team that had the Phoenix Suns Darius Bazley and BG's Gabe O'neal, but didn't receive a single D1 offer. So he spends a year in a prep program, still no offer. He goes to Central State where I think he led all D2 freshmen in scoring. He transfers to Weber State for a year. Then he transfers to NIU for two years. Perpetual one foot out the door.

It's not like Myrtle Beach has a giant airport. Then again, Columbus doesn't either for a city that size. Their airport rather sucks for a city that size although the new facility will open in the spring of 2027 supposedly. Then the old one will be flattened and I want to be there to see the wrecking ball knock that pathetic piece of 5hit to the ground. Three security lines for an airport in a city of a million people?

Averaged 26.6 ppg and 9.4 rpg and shot over 80% at the FT line.
6'9", 225 lbs

The step up in competition would be big, but this guy can obviously ball.

He would clearly start ahead of G-Wiz

He's stronger, quicker, more agile, more athletic. Can step out and hit a three.

By the way, though the focus is on transfers, were our coaches present at the state finals? I know we have at least three prospects we've offered that made it to that round.
