Saw Boals tweeting about Kurtis Rourke today. I hope soon he's tweeting about finding portal gold in the 6'8-6'10 range. #focus

Hopefully 1/3 of visitors last week commits this week.

Zid Powell to UTEP. FWIW, Olayinka has since received offers from Tulsa, NM State, and George Mason.

Is there a deadline for commitment? I hope to not be hosting basketball portal transfers at San Diego State on Aug 26.

IJ was not hurt last year. He was redshirted for class management purposes. When I asked about his offensive skills, Boals replied, "Work in progress." Honestly, he was far more positive on Wiz -- said he has the skills but simply needs to slow down. Predicts he'll make significant progress over the summer.

I’m not going to say Wiz will ever be great but he’s certainly a D1 player and would have success in a smaller conference. At Ohio, he’ll be a rotational player who will hopefully become less of a detriment on the floor this year.

Respect the take...that's what this board is all about. And damn...I hope I am wrong about this, but up to this point, The Whiz isn't a D1 player and he'd have trouble finding success in the MEAC. Nobody can go into next season feeling good about the prospects of The Whiz being in the rotation.

Hahaha. You continually trash Wiznitzer, yet the guy you have worshipped, our head coach, has produced zilch to bring in a better big man. Anything more need be said? It's mid-May and the clock continues to tick.

And nobody can feel good about going into next season with no one recruited from the portal. Thus, if Wiz is on the floor next winter it's for a reason. Either he stepped up or Boals failed. Or both.

Jerry....good to see ya chime in on the portal thread. Just curious...are you still taking those "I love Saul" crazy pills? Are you still sending him Christmas cards?

For the record, I've only worshipped four people in my life: Dad, Tony Dorsett, Gary Trent and Scarlett Johansson. For a guy that you think I "worship", I sure do rip Boals a ton when it comes to in-game coaching decisions and for swings and misses on the recruiting trail. Everyone on this board knows I criticize Boals. Just like I criticized Larry, O'Shea, Groce, Christian and your boy Saul.

You are correct about one thing. If The Whiz is in the rotation next winter, Boals has failed big-time with recruiting this position. And I mean big-time. It's actually the smartest thing you've ever said on Bobcat Attack.

Enjoy your annual summer vacation with the Phillips family (I hear Aberdeen, ND is really nice between June 16-18). Go Northern State! I see the Wolves are killing it in the portal!

I smile, or actually laugh, when I see your posts full of so much anger and frustration. Just to set things straight .. I don't love Saul. I thought he was a good coach who had the misfortune of some significant injuries to players while here in Athens. He also was the kind of coach I like to see in the community. Not sure if Boals is still living in suburban Columbus or not but coaches like Nee and Saul certainly were positives locally I feel.

I "get" your frustration. A big man can't seem to attract a big man to play for him. Thus, your outbursts.

Sorry to disappoint you but my summer is in Maine.

Boals moved *back* to New Albany for a rare chance at stability for his kids (daughter now a swimmer at Florida State, son is a soph or junior). I think that says more about him as a man than how often he is seen eating out in Athens.

I will put my money on Boals being an Ohio basketball alum as having a bigger impact on the Athens community than Saul ever did...no matter where Boals currently lives. Listen Jerry....I get it....I'm sorry that your former neighbor Saul is now residing back in North Dakota. That's a tough break, but maybe he'll come visit you in Maine this summer. You did forward Saul your Kennebunkport address correct?

And just to "set things straight"....I'm not angry and frustrated. In four years, Boals has an NCAA Tourney win and an NBA draft pick on his resume. Yes...he developed JP...not Saul. Remember, your boy Saul kept JP on the bench only to play behind another PG who every game shot 2-12 and committed 7 turnovers.

Keep rooting against Boals Jerry and ask yourself if Ohio basketball is better today than it was prior to Boals arrival? I'll hang up and listen.

This does not look like the kind of player that Boals typically goes after:

https://tinyurl.com/43day7dz

Now, there might be extenuating circumstances that would make this look not as bad as it does at first blush, or he may have reformed. I'm all for giving guys second chances. But, in general, Boals stays clear of problem guys.

Well, Javonte visited last week; so, it would appear Boals feels he’s comfortable pursuing him.

Brown had an alright season in 2021-22 but the arrest pretty much nuked any playing time for this year. Think he could be an interesting big in the MAC with his size - will be keeping my eyes out to see if he is interested in coming up to Athens.

This has been my question with Javonte; but, I have a hard time believing the staff would offer him if he wasn’t able to play right away.

I think you can still request a waiver, though "I got arrested and wasn't able to play very much" doesn't feel like hardship. He''ll be a 4th year, so anything is possible though I can't find anything about his actual eligibility.

Looks like he is also visiting Syracuse and SDSU as well. Syracuse lost their C to WVU.
https://insidetheloudhouse.com/2023/04/21/syracuse-basket... /

It's hard to guess what kids are looking for (money), but I honestly think for some of these UCONN/Syracuse kids who didn't see the success they had hoped; a big selling point for Boals could be, I can offer you 30 mins a night, come here and average 20/10 and that could put you on NBA radars. Dominate these C's. Build yourself back.

He visited both schools last month. I agree that a lateral move might not be in his best interest and is a selling point for us after not sticking at UConn/A&M. Casey Crawford, our Video guy now follows. So, it does seem like a push is being made. As Shabamon mentioned, we don’t know what his immediate eligibility looks like, but I’d hope we wouldn’t waste time with a guy who’d have to sit.

The intrusion is welcome Jeff...thanks for the correction. Sometimes it's hard for me to keep my Dakotas straight....kind of like Maine and New Hampshire. Great catch!

North Dakota is the one that is to the north of South Dakota :D

Noted moving forward. Thanks Victory!

With two giant question marks currently on the roster at this position, I just can't see this staff bringing a big man on board who is not eligible until January.

I agree. I’d guess Javonte plays right away. To add more speculation — Boals’ son now follows Javonte.
