I came across this doing some googling the other day. Not sure where the numbers came from, but the article claims Miami stood to make 1.1 million: https://www.post-gazette.com/sports/Pitt/2020/08/28/Pitt-... .

Kent had quite a bit more -- Bama, Kentucky and Penn St for $4.95 million -- but that's probably due to Saban's history with Kent and more cash available from SEC teams. UMass was supposed to get $1.9 million from Auburn.

Ohio's former AD didn't do the Bobcats any financial favors with his football scheduling. Many of the MAC teams above are getting over a million dollars to play at Power Five schools. The schedule now has Ohio playing Syracuse and Iowa State home and home. No money to be made in those deals. That doesn't help the budget.

We just signed another 2 for 1 with no money. So it's not the old AD

Below is what some MAC schools didn't receive in 2020 because of Covid. This list doesn't include CMU missing out on $1.3 million from not playing Nebraska.
Here's how much money each MAC team is missing out on from the Big Ten, according to USA Today Sports:

Akron: Not impacted

Bowling Green:

at Ohio State (Sept. 5) — $1.2 million

at Illinois (Sept. 12) — $1 million

Buffalo:

at Ohio State (Sept. 19) — $1.8 million

Kent State:

at Penn State (Sept. 5) — $1.5 million

I couldn't find any future football schedules past 2027 that have Ohio playing a 2 for 1. I was able to find away Marshall in 2025 and home 2027, at Kentucky in 2024, money game, at Penn State in 2022, money game and at Illinois in 2025, money game. The Bobcats host Syracuse in 2021 and are away in 2024. Ohio plays Iowa State away in 2022 and in Peden on 2023. Rutgers is away in 2023 and guessing that is a money game because I don't see a return trip on future schedules.

Make sure you don't fill us in on what you know, BTC. I understand it's very sensitive information with regards to our national security. Top secret, right?

That really surprises me. I live in Pittsburgh and have attended games, including the last time we played there. They don't draw well and are nothing close to OSU, Alabama, Penn State, etc.

Yes - be patient. There are some agreements that have not been released yet. Believe me. They are GREAT. Some people are saying the best ever. Probably most successful negotiations EVER. No one negotiates schedules like this administration.

On top of my role in overseeing parking services, I also handle all contracts out of the HDL Center.

And I infiltrated Billy's office recently and looked through all the contracts.

Western Michigan at Michigan State, Sept. 7: When school officials signed the contract for this game in the spring of 2011, Western Michigan was due to be paid $500,000 “with a mutually agreed upon market adjustment to be negotiated by September 1, 2018.” That has proved to be an extremely lucrative phrase.

In May 2017, the parties amended the agreement and increased the payout to $1 million.

The above info was published in the summer of 2019. Guessing that was for the MSU-WMU game in the 2019 season. Does anyone think our former AD negotiated that "mutually agreed upon market adjustment agreement" with future opponents like Rutgers in 2023, Kentucky in 2024 or Illinois in 2025?

Not really related to the topic, but this was from the Buffalo News in October of 2019. Ohio was not exactly on the top of that list for salaries.

“Who is our peer? What is our competition? Where do we fit in with that?” Alnutt said. “In that salary range, we want to be very competitive. What does ‘competitive’ mean? Where does Lance fit on that scale, where does Felisha fit, and where does Jim fit? Where do our Olympic sports fit, too? But it’s also understanding the experience that some of our coaches may bring to the table, or if it’s a relatively new coach. Their salary might not be where it might get to, otherwise, being first-time coaches.”

MAC schools Expenses Salaries Pct.
Bowling Green $24,393,090 $9,807,129 40.2
Kent $29,993,310 $11,480,123 38.3
Buffalo $40,763,071 $15,033,182 36.9
Central Michigan $32,540,008 $11,480,194 35.3
Ball State $28,443,728 $10,005,416 35.2
Miami (Ohio) $37,127,174 $12,373,991 33.3
Akron $34,873,236 $10,837,686 31.1
Toledo $33,776,969 $10,271,299 30.4
Western Michigan $37,925,540 $11,259,595 29.7
Northern Illinois $25,821,426 $7,282,147 28.2
Eastern Michigan $36,861,035 $10,106,663 27.4
Ohio $35,869,324 $9,055,415 25.2
But when it comes to hiring, Alnutt uses the MAC as a measure for compensation and not the SUNY Division I programs. He also takes into consideration certain variables when determining salary parameters.

Do you know, if O.U. goes to FCS,is that considered a D1 program or do they still need to add a new D1 Program ?

It's D1. Remember it used to be called 1AA (and some of us still use that term). The FBS/FCS monikers were there to distinguish between one subdivision having a bowl system and the other one using a championship playoff, although both have playoff systems, just to differing degrees.

One thing that nobody really talks about and I find fascinating is that the state of Ohio is among the national leaders in number of FBS level football programs in state - I believe only Texas, Florida and California (maybe North Carolina?) can come close to the total numbers.

The difference in Ohio is we are dominated by one central figure, one power program- Ohio State. No other state has one dominant program like that. Wisconsin, Minnesota and Nebraska are mostly outliers as they don't have the sheer number of D1 schools that Ohio has.

Cincinnati has done their best to be come a #2 power program in state, but even they fall way short of what other states have. Maybe that changes a little bit with the move to the Big 12.

There's a ton of football interest and talent in this state and it would take a huge movement for an entire conference to move down to FCS - I can't see Ohio moving down a level unless everyone else comes with them.

Zombie thread warning. But in regards to above, they all should.

Let the p5 spend $200M on their football programs and pay their players.

Everyone else that isn't stupid and cant afford that can focus on basketball and Olympic sports.

No FBS football isn't holding UD or Villanova or Gonzaga back is it?

Oh I agree with you, but it would take a rather unprecedented move on the MAC's part. It would be especially crazy since lately schools have been moving up in the South, not down.

Ummm.....no. But a fair many here wouldn't mind seeing football drop a level.

That would not be a wise move, and would not actually help the budget in the long run, as L.C. has pointed out on the football forum several times in excruciating detail, as only he can do. Now, if we dropped to Div III we could save a lot of dough, but do you really want to do that?

If dropping football D3 enhances the basketball program.....100% I'm all for it.

https://www.bobcatattack.com/messageboard/topic.asp?FromP...

Read this "deep cut" thread from 2018, and my post at the top of the thread, then explain how dropping to D3 or simply dropping to FCS to invest more in BB like some mid-majors would be so easy...

The Few, The Proud, The Bobcats!

And for the record, I hate tOSU, and Ricordati and Torgerson are DB's.
