And even though she fouled out with almost 6 minutes left, Cece flirted with a quadruple double: 29 points, 9 assists, 7 steals, 6 rebounds.

I didn't really think Ohio was going to be able to hold on without Johnson adn Hooks and still almost 6 minutes left. They started turning it over a lot for a while but settled in and took care of things the last few minutes. Bowling Green, the surprise first-place team in the MAC, is up next.

Really gutsy play after CeCe fouled out. I continue to be impressed with Mace's play, as a true freshman she's got a lot of time to mature and get better as a player, and she's already one of our best in her first year. I know that she practiced with the team second semester last year, as she graduated from high school early, which probably has helped a lot, but she is really talented.

I agree OCF. Mace reminds me of Sears, she is ready now and shows it with effort, poise and maturity. She's a stat stuffer and the stage is not too big. And on top of all of that she can flat out hoop.

Hooks has been in a zone the last half dozen games. She will need another great performance with BG coming up next game. Kent has played just five league games with Ohio at 12. Wondering how many conference games Kent will actually play?

They actually discussed that on the TV broadcast last night. They've had some rescheduled. They missed two games with NIU. One team is going to host both games on back-to-back days. There will be a coin flip to determine which team does.

Interesting stat for the game department. Kent read/write/State coach was loudly griping that there were no foul shots taken at the end of the first half to the officiating crew. Not quite ten total fouls had been called.(He was even griping when it was 4-2 in his favor.)
Be careful of what you wish. Double digit total fouls called in the third quarter and seventeen.....yep 17...in the fourth. Gabby knocked down all but one of hers. Karma time, Butch!

There's no pleasing any coach who complains when fouls are 4-2.

Maybe they could do the coin flip at the Super Bowl Sunday? If not, they will have to have an auditing firm oversee the coin flip. Steinbrecher doing the coin flip on Zoom??

I figured we were toast when Cece fouled out and not having Erika. The ladies proved me wrong, a great team effort. They should feel good.

A friend of mine saw this posted in the Hartford Courant, listing 5
girls basketball players to watch:

Azalyah Felder, G. Dynamic player who became the all-time scoring leader at Conard High. Heading to Ohio University.

Up 15 at Ball State and raining threes. Johnson is still out, so we're basically playing only seven deep. Abby Garnett, at least in this game, is making the most of her minutes increase. Not a bad athlete. Got some good boards and on the spot with some deflections and sealing off for layups.

It’s the Hooks and Mace show so far. Go ‘Cats!

Is the Freeman on the BSU team related to Tommy? Asking for BTC’s friend! ;-)

Blowout 88-66 win for the Bobcats over a good Ball State team that beat Ohio earlier this season. Ohio knocked down 17 3-pointers. Bobcats led by 30+ and got to sit Hooks (22 points) for most of the 4th quarter. All of this without Johnson playing at all. Burris scored 19. Mace and Kroll with 15 each, Garnett had 9.

Bobcats lace 17 three pointers. Many were wide open and many were all string. As mentioned, I really liked Garnett's minutes and it appears she will be the only true big on this roster for the foreseeable future.

Garbage time was interesting. The Wisconsin transfer, Hale, was... not good. Several bad turnovers and then should have been called for a flagrant on a loose ball in the backcourt. She and a Cardinal player exchange words and the two got whacked with techs. Bob was quick to yank her and put Mace back in. Gotta get Johnson back soon if we're going to make a run at this thing.

Oh, I almost forgot. Looking at Ball State's roster, they have a 6'3" starter who is Hilliard Darby's all time leading scorer and rebounder. Wonder how serious of a look we gave her.

I can't figure out why Wisconsin recruited her. She doesn't see much floor time here, and when she does, it looks a lot like what you saw last night. I expected a better caliber of player coming from a B1G school.

Their roster also lists their star big, Oshlynn Brown, as being from Chillicothe. Junior Ella Skeens, also from Chillicothe.

Hale had a brutal game last night, but I think she showed her potential in the Kent State game a week or so ago. 5-7 shooting, 12 points, 4 rebounds in 22 minutes. She looked to have good speed, acrobatic finishes at the basket, and a good handle. She's really very inexperienced - short minutes with Wisconsin two seasons ago; redshirted for us last season; deep reserve for much of this season. With more game experience, I think she'll be a big part of the PG rotation, particularly next season with CeCe graduating.

Abby Garnett is another player in a similar situation who's lately been showing what she can do. She's also a RS sophomore, who sat out two seasons ago and barely played last year. She's now showing a nice touch around the basket and a knack for rebounding. Good game for her last night. Nice to have a player over 6'0" to match up with some of the MAC bigs.
