I notice in Harms now condensed contender list that Jim Christian’s Boston College makes the cut. Yea that Jim Christian so let the “but he ruined our Sweet 16” team chorus begin in 3-2-1.

The article article also notes Harms graduating this spring so I’m not at all surprised that he is pulling up stakes from West Lafayette. UNC Greensboro as a possible landing spot is a bit surprising though. Hope it happens for them. I’m only an hour away from Greensboro and I might even be compelled to go catch a game IF and I know it’s a big IF now for fans to be able to actually attend.

Stay safe everyone and Happy Easter.

You are making two different points. Could Christian recruit? Yes. Did he take a cohesive, fun-loving, loose ballclub under Groce that reached the Sweet 16 and lose by 30 in the MAC title game and then in the opener of the postseason? Yes. The two are exclusive of one another. He had a decent second year as well. Did he also set us back a year by running after his second year? Yes. Has he done anything at BC or even at TCU when he was there? No. Once again, they are exclusive of one another.

Back then, athletes who worked off-season jobs in their communities helped to endear themselves to their fans. Richie Hebner worked with his dad as a gravedigger during the off-season. Others were farmers, factory workers, car salesmen, etc. They were more like their fans, so fans related to them better. Joe Morrison worked in PR with the Ford factory in Lima during the off-season and often spoke to community organizations in the small towns up there. I had a cousin who worked with him and I got to spend an hour or so with him after he spoke to a group in my hometown when I was 12 or 13. He became more than just someone on TV to me. He was a real person, a really nice guy and was one of my favorites after that. Because there's such a gap between players and fans in income and lifestyle these days, I'm not sure that happens so much anymore.

Yes they did, and those are all good things for the fans, but it doesn’t change the fact that the reason these people worked these jobs is because they were grossly underpaid and management was raking it in hand over fist.

It's also true that a large number of players today are extremely overpaid. Making multi-millionaires out of mediocre players helps needlessly inflate the cost of everything from tickets to concessions. It also puts them out of touch with fans. The owners are largely to blame because they don't have self-control to not get into bidding wars for so-so players and they know they can pass the costs along to fans. It's one reason why attendance at all sports is dropping.

And I will not disagree with that, but the money is there, and I’d rather the players get a fair share over the owner in his tax payer funded stadiums.

Don't think this has been mentioned, but WMU's Brandon Johnson was picked up by Minnesota.

Justin Turner apparently wasn't that impressed by his top offers of Iowa State, Missouri, and Marquette, because he's coming back to BG.

Damn. Good for BG and for setting an example with guys wanting to transfer up. Bad for us. BG should be a clear favorite next year.

Beat me to it. HUGE for BG. And while it makes Ohio's path tougher, I like this a lot. I like a kid staying in the MAC instead of leaving for just any money conference opportunity. I'm interested to hear the "why" from him whenever it happens.

Maybe all-time scoring leader (he needs only 389 points to do it), jersey retirement, breaking the school's tourney drought resonates with him more than being just one of the guys somewhere else.

What kind of masochist grad transfers for one year to Missouri?

Turner comes back to BG...so if Graves comes back to Buffalo, the MAC East is gonna be looooaded.

I might be in the minority here, but I'm glad to see Turner returning to BG and hope Graves plays his final year at UB. Yes, I'm an Ohio Bobcat fan, but I'm also a fan of MAC basketball and feel that what's good for MAC hoops is good for Ohio hoops. Even if it means BG and UB present a bigger challenge for Ohio to win the MAC East next year.

First, Dylan Frye takes a leave of absence from the BG program mid-season for a couple of weeks. Then his backcourt mate enters the transfer portal only to decide to return for his final season. Welcome to college hoops circa 2020.

Also noticed that BG has a Chandler Turner on its roster, a freshman from the same high school as Justin Turner. Anyone know if they're brothers? cousins?

I found a Toledo Blade story that says they were high school teammates but are not related.

Interesting.

Not unlike UT's Marreon and Willie Jackson, high school teammates in Cleveland but not related. And reminds me of when Stevie Taylor left Gahanna HS to play basketball at Ohio and I was hoping another Stevie Taylor would join him. Unfortunately, the second S. Taylor, about a foot taller than our S. Taylor, chose Marquette before transferring to UT.

More than one Twitter user thought he was crazy to return to BG. I agree with you.

I was definitely surprised to see this. It feels pretty uncommon that a guy puts himself in the portal and decides to come back.

Iowa State is basically Bowling Green but further north. Probably not worth making the move. Mizzou ain't going anywhere. Marquette's a good program, but maybe location had something to do with it.

Interesting article: How would a transfer all-star lineup compare to the nation’s best teams?

That sucks. He was the one of all those rumored to be leaving that I liked the most and really wanted to stick around. He has a fun outside shot that actually goes in, unlike a certain chucker who shall remain nameless. It was pretty clear that Boals just didn't trust him due to his lack of strength, though.

He seems like young man but it was never going to happen for him at the D1 level.

Oh stop it. With his length and shooting ability he proved he can absolutely play at the D1 level. His lack of strength and defensive IQ can be improved, so long as he works at it with whomever he goes to next. Just wasn't gonna happen here now with all the bigs we have in place.

I'm tired of this rhetoric that every time a guy transfers out he's automatically considered a low level or bad prospect. Things don't work out. Plain and simple.

OK, I'm convinced. A pencil-thin 7-footer who is only a scoring "threat" beyond the 3-point arc, is a defensive liability and hasn't put on any weight/muscle in two-plus years of training is exactly who D1 programs are looking for.

Never? He put on about 25 pounds while he was here and showed some things at times this year but otherwise played like a freshman. To say never after one non-redshirt year is awfully presumptive.

I think I heard when he was recruited that he only started playing basketball his 9th grade year. So he's not really played all that much competition wise. His best basketball is still yet to be found.
