Why do the concession stands continually run out of tasty comestibles?

Are they poorly stocked?

Insufficient storage?

Poor planning?

Poor timing on my part?

It seems to happen all the time, though, so that's got me wondering... what's the root cause?

How can I help fix this?

I don't know the answer, but for the love of all that is good and holy, do something about the lines!  Put in ropes! One line, four registers! Dividers! Cheap solution!

One of the many reason we need to remodel Peden.  The concessions are terrible, lines tie up the whole area and they are fairly dark too.

This is the first season I've just been a normal spectator, and I was stunned to see how archaic the concessions are in Peden.  While I am definitely a proponent of stadium expansion, bathrooms and concessions are the first things that need fixed.  Like...RED ALERT...WE NEED HELP, STAT.

Back in the day, they used to have vendors roaming throughout the stadium -- both sides -- selling hotdogs, popcorn, crackerjacks, pop, etc.  When was the last time this was done?  It would certainly make for shorter lines under the stadium at the concession stands.

This is no excuse, because they're consistently running out of X, Y, and Z, but I think the $1 off coupons made folks raid the concession stands more this week than usual.

Wasn't the stadium built in 1929?  The Concourse is much the same as all stadiums in that mold, OWU, Spartan Stadium, etc....Never was designed to deal with crowds as large as we have today, nor was there much in the way of concessions in those days.  I believe they park a semi out back of the West stands that serves as the cooler, and they cook things at the Convocation center.  And not sure there is much room for stands outside of the underneath concourses.

Hey I'm all for donating money to the Albany Alexander Chess Club....but if we truly want to upgrade the entire game day atmosphere we may need to consider bringing in a professional concessionaire group.

I purchased a Pepsi (all she had left) from a nice young lady roaming the student side a couple weeks back on parent's weekend.  It was much needed.

This absolutely needs to be addressed.  There should be a Pepsi trailer set up under corners to handle overflow.  There should be temporary concession booths there, also.  The lines need to be roped so folks know where to go.  These are all easy fixes that could be done before Saturday.

Also, we have a dedicated campus Electric Shop at the physical plant.  They could run conduit and install lights under the stands in the corridor in less than a day.  This is a safety and convenience issue.

Also, is there not a better system to allow people to go outside Peden at halftime?  So far, we have had a 70 yr old guy writing "NM" on our hand with a Sharpie and an official security guy with a hole punch asking for our tickets this week.  They could order a handstamp from Current Labels for $4.95 and get everyone out in an orderly fashion.  Some of these things make me think the decision makers never leave the tower during the game to see what is really happening.

I got a delicious, freshly grilled (I know because they were grilling it right there) brat with peppers and onions along with an angus cheeseburger and cold Dr. Pepper at a concession stand that was underneath the "newer" disconnected stands (where the visiting fans sit) last weekend.  I followed the grill smoke/smell to find it.  There was maybe 8-10 people in line, but it moved quickly.  This was right before kickoff.

Scott,

I *tried* to do that but they were "out of hot dogs".  And out of burgers.  And out of polish sausage.

Nevermind that I told the kid the nearly black one on the grill was done and ready to be pulled off; he would not pull it off the grill to give to the young lady to sell it to me.

In any case, if I had been willing to wait for another 4 minutes, that might have worked.

It still amazes me, though, how with an enourmous grill like that you can "run out" of anything...

Cook up 24 of everything.... then pull off six... put on six... etc... it's not rocket science.

Wonder how much they'd let us help...

Beyond the entire inability for the people working the booths to actually tally the order and count change, being out of stock is extremely poor.

Maybe since the Split the Pot has been discontinued, all those "non-revenue" team members could be coerced into concession duty or seat vending - for a generous cut of the proceeds, of course.

At the very least, they could work those Pepsi trailers mentioned above.  It couldn't be any worse than the HS boosters manning the official stands, in terms of familiarity with the process, math skills, etc., etc.

It is a problem.

Remember that this operation is brought to you by the same team that set up the Ohio Bobcat Club tailgate, which by the way, also runs out of food before they run out of customers.  In my memory, the G&W tent never ran out of food.  Just sayin'

If we are running out of food, wouldn't this issue be a lack of storage space?  If you throw 1000 hot dogs in a freezer then sell them 1000, you run out.  At this point you expand your freezer.

In the years I was there, it was a university-wide issue to not be able to plan for any large event. Be it general logistics, enough supplies etc. Whether it was a sporting event, something in Baker, or a show at MEMAUD, it generally was a logistical disaster.

Basically, you just get used to it

Simple question, exactly who is in charge of the concessions at Peden/the Convo/Ohio University Athletic Events?

More and more, I'm beginning to realize that our infrastructure and staff are completely insufficient for the type of crowds that we've been drawing. Whether it be re-entry, concessions, restrooms, ushers, etc....everything works well when there's 12-15,000 in the house. More than that, and chaos tends to break out.

I'm not exactly sure what the solution is, but the facilities/operations crew needs to step it up. We've been drawing unprecedented crowds (which is GREAT)...but we need to make sure they have a great experience to keep these new fans coming back. These sort of problems are not helping the cause.

For concessions at Peden, I have been utilizing the Nelson Dining Hall 'scramble' method of getting served quickly and efficiently - works for me every time.

Concessions and restrooms are fine...just need a better system to avoid running out of food and perhaps a few walking vendors to help thin the lines out.  I don't need a bright ritzy concession or automatic flushers to enjoy a football game.

Devaughn Washington reports to Jim Schaus who reports to Tim O'Shea who reports to SBH who reports to Keith Dambrodt who reports to the Athens High School glee club who report to myself at which point I report to the MAC office led up by Jeremy Guy.  It is a pretty straight-forward process.

Solution for the reentry problem: don't miss the halftime show, don't miss even a single snap of the game, don't leave. If you need a drink to make it through the game (I'm not judging, we've all been there), do what OHIO students (and recent alumni) have been doing for generations: sneak it in (this advice works equally well for Peden and for the dorms). If you're afraid you're going to be stopped and searched...well, find a buxom bobcat to help you out.

When Peden stadium is upgraded I would like to see concessions and restroom as part of an outer plaza that surrounds the stadium itself. I attended the Ohio Maryland game back in the 90's and that's what they did and it looked great! There is just no room to do anything decent under Peden. Now if the student side were demolished (my preference) and rebuilt then under that side of the stadium it may work. On the tower side an outer plaza would provide space for larger concessions, restrooms, team shops, ect.

Just a thought.
