I think it's great that we are drawing 20k + every game but to say we lack enthusiasm is a complete understatement.  I sit in section 105 and I have to admit that I have been to funerals that have been louder.  I am talking about key defensive situations ie 4th down plays.  It even felt like fans near me were annoyed if someone stood up and tried to get involved.  It is not a good thing we I can here people coughing 10 rows in front of me during a play.   This team is 6-0 and to watch the crowd they could really care less.  The stadium was much louder with half as many fans in the past.  Hopefully things will turn around and we can give the players a true home field advantage for the last three games.  They deserve better.

Today made me hate 12:00 starts even more.

I've seen crazier things happen.

Agreed.  My family is also in 105, and my co-worker's family is in 106.  Both of us were saying this week that we feel awkward when we stand, as if we are the only ones for several rows who are doing so.  This is my first year in 105, as I upgraded from the corner family section.  I feel as though the more I pay for my tickets, the less I can yell, scream, and stand up.  Maybe homecoming will be a spark?

2 PM game on Homecoming.  I think we set an all-time record for attendance.

It would help keep the crowd into the game if we got a stop on 3rd down in the early part of the game.  With each 3rd down the Buffalo converted, and usually quite easily, the enthusiasm dampened.

To accommodate CBS, Navy and Air Force started at 11:30 a.m. ET.  But the game was in Colorado, so that made it 9:30 a.m. there.  They drew 38,927.  That could only happen at a military academy, where reveille is at 5:30 (or so) and the order of the day is to show up at the game (probably).

I'm in 105 also. Pathetic crowd support. Seems the only time anyone wants to make some noise is when it's 3rd down for OUr offense - What? (And BTW, we have the same inept reaction often at BBaLL games - OUr crowd decides to get real loud when We have the ball - ?) Need to be LOUD on D - All Downs - not just 3rd after PA urging. The crowds at REAL FBall schools don't need urging - they understand the game - jeesh..................

Maybe 12:00 start was the issue, but everything seemed lackluster early in the game. D was soft and getting stupid penalties, crowd was - might as well not even be there, band and PA was not even snappy w/prompts on couple of Beefs early 3rd downs, and cheerleaders - were positioned in front of the Beefs section - ??????

Thank God for Daz!

At a point early in the game I was tempted to stand up and loudly ask if anyone here has ever been to a game at a school w/a Real supportive atmosphere? Like Penn State, Marshall, etc.?

We need some new traditions that get the crowd involved, in motion, making some noise. I have always kinda sneered at the "WE ARE" chants of some (per prior PSU and Marshall references) - but they do at least get the crowd lively and involved. Even the somewhat often subdued, but 5 times as large O$U crowd chants like "O-H-I-O". We don't have that. Maybe "OU - Oh Yeah" - but somebodies gotta get it started, then somebody has to respond (cheer leaders maybe take note?)!

Something better than what looks (and sounds) like a 12 in. TV at the end of the field would help too. Need something better than that sooner than we need 10K more seating capacity...................

Maybe we need a competitor to Citizens Bank to step up and sponsor a "Enter Name Here" Third Down (On Defensive 3rd Downs). Some $ donation to local cause for every 3rd Down D stop?

I've sat in 105 for years. We have 8-10 of us that faithfully stand up and cheer. It has been that way for years until this year. I though we turned the corner with passionate, loud fans the first two games. Today's crowd flat out stunk. The students were bad and the Tower side was worse. I know an electric crowd can elevate the play of the home team and mess up the visitors. As a fanbase, we owe it to the team to put forth a better effort.

Been to two games this year and many over the years.  In general, our fans are pathetic.  They may show up but they have no clue when or how to cheer.  Been the way for 40 years too!

I have to agree with all above! Might as well have been 5,000 people, my old college roommate came to his first game in seven years with my son and I and could not believe how lackluster the fans were..Hopefully crazy for Akron.

Yeah, we should destroy the 25,800 number from NMSU.

I'm not sure there's much that could be done here. It's a culture thing. For some reason, it's still not seen as the norm to get up and make noise at an OU football game.

I think the problem is made worse by the number of "casual" fans that we are drawing. Don't get me wrong, I love 20K in the stands...but many of the folks there today could honestly have cared less about the outcome. The family pack section only makes noise when they're tossing out t-shirts. Many of the students seem to just come for free food and giveaways.

There were at least 500 little kids in football jerseys from Canal Winchester, Portsmouth, Logan and assorted other SE Ohio towns. It seemed there were lots of other large groups represented too (scouts, church groups, non-profits). Again, I LOVE that we are making a concerted effort to get them to the game, bring them on the field, etc...BUT these fans are not going to be the ones that get into it on 3rd down. I honestly think sometimes that the more we make an effort to fill the stadium (thus drawing in the very casual fans), the less hostile of an environment Peden becomes. Just my two cents...

At one point I stated rather loudly - "What is this, an extended moment of silence?"

Maybe that's it - they're all "quietly praying"? Maybe that explains it all........keep coming back from the surely dead.........

I can't fault the fans in Peden, I felt the same way watching from my laptop. This stretch of games (Norfolk, UMass, UB and Akron) is just weird. The teams are so bad iwe know that we should just absolutely crush them, but we're so banged up that we don't. So its this odd feeling of confidence that we'll win mixed with frustration that the team isn't dominating mixed with the irritability of watching the other team have the game of their lives which is going to make us look bad.

It's like being a little constipated.

Interesting thought, Perimeter.  I also think that if we can start playing with a number 25 (or lower) next to our name when the score is on the screen that fan interest and enthusiasm may shoot up.  Maybe a couple of digits will make it legimate to some people that we are genuinely good.

Agree on most counts above. There were certainly a large amount of groups at today's game that didn't seem particularly interested. But that's OK - hopefully they become bigger fans down the road.

One thing we could easily change to improve the atmosphere: less of those on-field contests. I've been to all sorts of road games and never have I seen as many contests as what we roll out. Every stoppage there's some sort of contest, gimmick or gameball presentation. I realize the whole line of thought about "paying the bills", but these contests do nothing but zap the atmosphere out of Peden. And, many of them border on minor-leage ridiculous. You don't see these sort of crazy gimmicks at the "big time" venues - even at a place like Marshall.

Agree - Too many. This time should be more spent on firing up the crowd - the team will feed off this

I don't know what you guys expect from these fans. Welcome to MAC FOOTBALL its below average football, the players bust there butts and may be 6-0 but know one really cares. People are filling the seats to catch a piece of the pie, and at the end of the day they dont care. These players deserve better but like I said before welcome to MAC FOOTBALL!!!!!

Other teams have injuries also. And Buffalo was without their top RB (Brandon Oliver who had 425 rushing yards in 1st 3 games this year). Given how they ran through us like swiss cheese it likely would have been worse had Oliver been on the field.  We need to get some guys healthy ASAP; otherwise chances of an undefeated season diminish each week we're playing with so many guys banged up.
