The answer is clear - If we win the MAC Championship, we let him back in. 90% of his posts were about us NOT winning one.

I like it. I just can't remember, was he "We need BIG MANZ" or "Run it up the middle again????" or both?
He was indeed Big manz, although he wasn't nearly as active on the bball board. He just hijacked every thread with the same narrative about Frank never winning a MACC. It just became destructive.

I follow your logic here, and it's not wrong. The way college athletics work now, a single wealthy donor could, in theory, change a program's trajectory quite quickly.

But, I bet there's basically a direct correlation between a school/athletic department's ability to raise funds from alumni pre-NIL, and the likelihood of finding $20m** a year to compete with the well-funded programs.

It does not look seem like we have that sort of donor base. SMU does. But at least it creates a path?

** Worth noting that $20m is basically the floor if the NCAA revenue share plan goes through. So it requires raising 20m a year in perpetuity, or having the athletic department revenue that 22% adds up to $20m.

Right now, our revenue breakdown looks like this (source: Google AI summary, so you know):

-- Corporate sponsorship, advertising, and licensing: $1.29 million
-- Donor contributions: $2.02 million
-- Competition guarantees: $1.57 million
-- Conference/NCAA distributions, media rights, and post-season football: $4.01 million
-- Ticket sales: $1.24 million
-- Institutional/government support: $18.75 million

I assume the "institutional support" is basically student fees+.

This is a great point.

It’s not that we don't have access to wealth (not SMU-level, but enough). It’s just the holders of that wealth do not need their ego stroked by Bobcat athletic success.

For sure. The last couple of days on this board are a pretty interesting study in the difference between alums whose ego is all wrapped up in the national perception of OU, and those whose isn't.

Personally, Ohio Athletics is pretty low on the list is consider putting my money towards. Not a judgment for those who feel otherwise, but just not a cause that I could justify to myself.

In fairness, we have a high rate of success with a low-cost. High ROI with OU athletics. We'll never be on that level, bc most fans are happy to cheer on Ohio State at that level instead.

Two thoughts on this thread before I head off to Detroit:

1. I think the suggestion that we let Monroe back when we win the MACC on Saturday is an excellent idea. I've advocated letting him back now for several years. When I started a thread about that a few years ago, it was deleted by the mods.

2. One of O$U's biggest donors in years past was an OHIO alumnus. He gave OHIO a chapel named after his first wife, and O$U millions for its football program. We need to find a big bucks alumnus who loves OHIO more than the junior institution. I suspect we have some who fit this category. I nominate Bobcat Love to go find them and direct them to the OU AD's office.

Maybe it's time to let Monroe back on the board...I think it's time to go to DEFCON ONE.
If he would quit trying to sell dog bags - whatever that is - that would definitely cause some dust ups as well

When Monroe was posting I stopped visiting the board.

On the other hand, I look forward to reading Bobcat Love posts and ensuing debates. The dude puts butts in the seats.
Probably the biggest difference is that, so far as I have seen, Bobcat Love, in general confines his comments to specific threads, whereas Monroe was a threadjacker. When confined to specific threads, it is possible to simply not read those, should you choose to.

Oh yes, ranting at clouds in five threads this week is much better.

I'd be curious to know what the Ohio Athletics Development Team's (essentially the Bobcat Club) overall strategy is for trying to lure people in. As an alum, I get messages and emails and phone calls all the time from the University itself. I barely hear a peep from the athletics side unless I do the research myself. I've never been a season ticket holder, but I have bought single game tickets in the past and know buying tickets to other university's games (UW, OSU for example up here in the Pacific Northwest) pretty much gives them the green light to email me all the time about giving to their NIL or general athletics fund.

I guess what I'm trying to say is I'd be more willing to give if I knew what the department's plans are with the money or what projects they have down the road - say a basketball practice facility for example.

BTC could probably chime in on this. Does the department produce their own roadmap or is it just included in the overall university plan?

I started a thread about a Kent/BG basketball game because the video highlights were entertaining and he criticized that the thread even existed.

Indeed. There are 25 threads on page 1, so 80% of them are rant free.

I'm not BTC, but I can confirm that the OBC sets its own strategy, although it does fall under the broader Advancement umbrella.

And for the record, I hate tOSU, and Ricordati and Torgerson are DB's.

DA would be 110% on this. They obviously have to coordinate with the larger picture of the University Advancement Team and plan, but they set their own course within that, and they work together on large donors.
