According to fox news, the NFL is considering a 15 yard penalty if a team or a member of a team kneels.

Off setting penalties - so doesn't matter. What also doesn't matter is what the owners want to do. They can not add a rule or penalty to the game without the players association agreeing.
Also, enough of folks pointing to the kneeling and declining ratings and the death of the NFL. Panthers just sod for $2.2 billion. Yea, NFL is in a death spiral.
NASCAR is tanking. I bet it is because they are flag waiving, anthem standing fans that annoy and turn off others. Or maybe it is just changing TV habits. My son doesn't miss an NFL game - doesn't watch it on TV either. Pirates it on his computer.

With NASCAR I blame the ticket prices, their primary demographic is choosing between going and starving. How is it a ticket on the mainstand costs north of $100? It’s a real problem

Its not just ticket prices.
I have a number of friends who were big fans of NASCAR.
They lost interest because a lot of rule changes, including "overtime" and points for winning "stages".
They just shifted to other types of car racing.

The proposed rule lets the home team decide whether or not the teams will come out for the National Anthem.
Simplest solution, stay in the locker room.

Yes, NASCAR had such a unique flavor in sports that the corporate overlords killed via marketing gimmicks. I personally gave up on it with the "Car of Tomorrow"--the manufacturer rivalries were one of the best parts of NASCAR.
(Also, I don't care who the primary sponsor is or what tobacco advertising law is, it's still the Winston Cup, damn it!)

The initial reasoning for the COT was for safety, which I'm fine with. But I'm with you, the only thing now that differentiates a Ford from a Chevy, from a Toyota is the nose. I still love watching it, but I wish they'd take harder looks at the actual cars in their assessments of the rules.

Ticket prices are a big potential problem. If it wasn't so expensive, I'd probably go to Cup races 2-3 times a year. What's odd to me though is that the best racing in NASCAR, in my opinion, are the truck races - where there are cheap tickets, and no one goes to those.
As for stage racing, and playoffs, etc. I actually like all of it, and think it's very good, but perhaps I'm in the minority. I like all forms of racing with four wheels besides drag racing. What I haven't been able to comprehend is how sprint car racing hasn't captured more attention by TV networks. You want to talk about a (usually) good product to watch, go watch the World of Outlaws or the Arctic Cat All Stars somewhere.

Funny you said that,my friends that have cut down on attending NASCAR races have migrated over to going to trucks and sprints.
One friend really got into dirt tracks.
One other thing, while my friends have cut down on attending NASCAR races in person, they still faithfully watch on t.v.
I grew up going to and racing at Raceway Park in N.J.,so I'm partial to Drag Racing.
I still love the smell of Nitromethane fumes in the morning. :-)

I too have really gotten into dirt racing in the last couple years. That's an allure of the dirt track to me: The smell of the methanol fumes of 24 cars going by at 125+ mph. The larger allure though is the competition, the affordability, and the general atmosphere.
I watch around 90% of NASCAR races throughout the summer, especially once college hoops ends. Living in central Ohio, I'm about 2.5 hours from Kentucky, and 3.5 hours from MIS. Honestly, watch cup cars at Indy isn't interesting to me anymore, so I wouldn't consider going to that event.

I had no idea there were so many car racing fans on this board. I once had a summer job as the PR guy for the Torch International Speedway. I knew so little about my subject that I had to routinely ask fans in the stands to explain what I was witnessing. My main job was to write up news releases about the races to be sent to the local papers -- mainly Athens, Marietta and Parkersburg. I must admit that I haven't been back to any races since and I very seldom watch them on TV, and then only for very brief periods. I guess for me it was just a job, but I had no real intrinsic interest in the subject.

I'm curious - where is Torch International Speedway, or what is it called now? I think there was once a dirt track near Athens, but I'm not sure it's still operating.

You don't know about the Athens County metropolis of Torch? I'm not sure how you could have missed knowing about such an august community. You probably never heard of Frost, either, the location of one of only three still extant GAR Halls (Grand Army of the Republic, major Union veterans organization) in the Buckeye State, with walls paneled with buckeye wood. But, I digress, The Torch Speedway (I added "International" trying to be funny) is near Torch on the eastern edge of the down toward Parkersburg:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Torch%2C_Ohio
And, there's even a Facebook page devoted to the history of the speedway. There are some newspaper clippings here, but they mainly date from around 1954, my work there was a decade later.
https://www.facebook.com/pg/Remembering-Torch-Speedway-80...
Back when I worked there, the Torch Speedway was owned by Art Kasler, who also owned the dairy by the same name.

Just say a blurb about the NFL's adopted new rule on this.
If I read it correctly, players will have the option of staying in the locker room for the National Anthem.
If they choose to be on the field, they must stand for the National Anthem.
If they don't,the team will be fined.
The team then has the option of fining the player(s) who do not stand.

The NFL is asking for it right now and they better be careful. This thing is going to drag into labor negotiations and I can't wait to see how this is played out.
That and the fact that Kaep and Reid have collusion lawsuits at it, if this is not enough evidence to go to court with I don't know what is.

Right you are. Better hope that this summer isn't a "hot" one like 50 years ago or there may be lots of fines.

The one place where people get confused is that some think it is a freedom of speech issue. It is not. It is well established that employers can regulate what employees say while on the job. NFL players doing this are on the job, and not on public property (while it is in public view, only players and invitees are allowed on the sidelines, not the general public).
That said, there is only one way this can go away. If the revenues fall enough to affect player salaries, the players union will stop it, but by the the damage may be irreversible.

Or we can just change the Pledge pf Allegiance to be more accurate
"I Pledge Allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands,
one Nation under God, indivisible, with varying degrees of liberty and justice for all."
Let's not be upset at people protesting during the anthem, let's protest that we, as a country, are failing to live up to the pledge we make to the flag and the repulbic for which it stands.....oh wait that's what was being protested in the first place.

The NFL should also enstate a rule that no food or alcohol sales should be made prior the the National Anthem and all restrooms should be locked. Any fan found waiting for those to open or roaming the halls during the time of the national anthem should be removed from the stadium, since the national anthem is truly THAT important.
While we are at it, they should also attach monitors to the TV's at home to make sure those watching are standing for the anthem. If Billy Bob can't stop cramming his face with nachos and get off his couch for the national anthem, then they just stop the feed to his tv for the duration of the game.
I mean it's only right if we truly care that much, right?
The opposing team sucks!
