Has anyone heard if that was a school record for largest halftime lead? I'm guessing it's not, because we might have whipped a lower-division team, but it has to be among the best ever against an FBS opponent.

Early in the Grobe era when Ohio was hosting BG, Kareem Wilson ran wild in the first half and at halftime Ohio led 35-0 or 38-0.

In 1976 at one of the “Cereal Bowl” games we led Northern Illinois 49-0 at the half. Our QB Andy Vetter ran for 4 TD’s and threw for 3 TD’s, all in the first half. He was the national offensive player of the week. There were probably 900 screaming fans at the game.

The Cereal Bowl was typically played in the morning so fans could watch O$U - Michigan. No idea if this was the record for first half points.

BELT TO ASS. Bummer it didn't continue in the 2nd half but wow that was nice to get a comfortable win and end the CMU homecoming jinx. A lot of rapid improvement happening on defense. If I were to sum up the success of the program post-Solich it would be consistent defensive improvement and solid QB play. Looking like a lot of the same in year 1 of Hauser.

I guess hats off to Central coaching. They had a bad game plan to stop Bobcat offense then at the half they figured it out and totally shut down in the second. Not going to beat Western, Miami or Toledo being shut out for two quarters.

Why was Poulos still playing in the fourth?

Really overreacting here.... 2nd half was a steady rain....up 31-0....completely dominated the game still with letting in 2 late touchdowns while rotating second unit in. In every team, every level, there is always typically a changed and more passive strategy when you are leading in that manner and in the conditions which were present.

Enjoy a completely dominant homecoming game that showcased how much improvement the defense is making and an offense which has a chance to be really good in all phases with Nick Poulos leading the charge.

We have a chance to be in a special position late in November if team continues to improve and avoid letdowns.

I know that this isn't the answer, but I think if anyone else was the coach, it would have been the answer. This wasn't so long ago that many probably remember this,

Ohio went up 45-0 late in the first half in a game, like this one, where we were a tiny favorite at WMU. WMU fumbled deep in their own territory before the half. Solich could have added on at least a short field goal attempt and would have had several shots at a TD. He literally didn't even try to score and just ran out the clock.

I know it was 45-0, and Solich was so old-school, but I was a tiny bit shocked by that. It wasn't like we were playing a D2 team. We just proved that while unlikely, it is possible for two even teams to play a 45-0 half. WMU could do the same.

I was watching early this year with my Virginia Tech grad coworker. Virginia Tech was up 45-0 on a completely overmatched VMI team and got the ball back with a minute or two left. My friend was a little appalled when their new coach, James Franklin, tried a flea-flicker or something similar. I had to tell him what Solich did.

Victory, et al:

This reminds me of one of my favorite Bill Hess stories, which seems appropriate today after the dedication of the Bill Hess tower on Saturday.

I was in attendance in the fall of 1971 at the UK-Ohio football game. Ohio dominated from the start. In the 4th Quarter Ohio was up 35-6 and driving for what could have been another score. Coach Hess called a timeout. It was clear from what transpired after that TO that he had instructed the team to not score another TD. A few plays after the TO, an OHIO RB, probably Gary, ran through the Kentucky line right up the center and had no defender between himself and the goal line. You never saw such a vicious tackle by a yard marker. He tripped all over himself and landed on the something like the 10-yard-line. Old-school gentleman coaching at its finest. I really admire coaches like Hess and Solich that have that kind of respect for an opponent. They'll do everything to win, but they will not humiliate the other team.

Did they figure us out, or did we try to bleed the clock in the rain?

Poulus 2nd half passing stats:
1/2 for -2 yards

We had 21 rushing attempts. Just 4 'pass plays' (2 ended in a sack).

1 pass attempt in the 3rd quarter, 1 pass attempt in the 4th quarter. Ended the game on 11 straight called runs.

Probably letting him get as many game reps as possible since hes been hurt since week two, but I would agree - if they were going to dust off the Army playbook, I would've put Davis in there, but maybe they didn't trust him in the rain / want to shake his confidence if he coughed up the ball.

With about 4 minutes left in the game the ambulance came on to the field and took someone off on a stretcher. Anyone know who it was?

Additionally in the postgame show it looked like a 110 tuba player was flat on their back--any word what happened and how the 110er is doing?

No idea about the tuba player, but the ambulance was for a member of the chain gang who got his legs taken out from under him by two players. Older guy, had an air cast on one leg. They covered it on the broadcast.
