Ohio State big man Austin Parks is in the portal. We offered him out of high school.
A guy buried on the bench at a power conference program. Not named Wiznitzer.
This is ideal. #PossibleUpgrade
**BTW...Lincoln Memorial is a top D-2 program re: the 20ppg guy
I think you left the word "not" before the word "ideal." I will welcome him with open arms and hope for the best but come on---he couldn't find time on a middling Big 10 team? I also LOVE hearing that he missed time with an "undisclosed injury." Just what we need after the year we just had. Is it too much for us to just go get Sylvester Ogbonda from somewhere? Some dude we've never heard of who goes for 7 and 7 a night while our guards run rampant?

I would prefer the guy from South Carolina State if he's uninjured TBH.
But Parks would certainly be better than nothing if healthy.
He would certainly be preferable to a small college 9ppg guy who wouldn't be a walk-on in the BigTen or SEC. (and for some reason people do backflips and summersaults every time the staff follows a 9ppg guy from Podunk Nazarene)

Yeah, I'm not wild about Austin Parks from what I can see.
He basically played the equivalent of 3 full games this year and averaged 6.4 pts/5.0 rebounds/0.3 blocks per 40 minutes. And the rate stats are really bad -- 6.3% total rebound rate, 21% turnover rate.
Nothing about that strikes me as a guy ready to contribute any time soon. Those rate stats actually look worse than Evans first year, and Evans is still very much a project.
We already have a project big and we offered another in that dude from London. We need guys who can play right away and contribute.

You beat me to the punch. Wiz actually had a better rebounding and block rate per 40 mins coming out of Louisville his second year.
I do hope the staff is looking at this, instead of just a "big" body. Riley Mulvey offers more upside if we're trying to go the route of taking a big from a P5 bench. His Per 40 mins and 100 possessions stats are stronger.
Staff is following Patrick Wessler of VTech. 7 footer with minimal PT, but also has has more favorable Per 40 mins and 100 possessions stats like Mulvey.

It appears we're at least doing diligence on P5 bench/rotational bigs.
Staff is following Blake Buchanan's (UVA) agent. Started 22 games.

Still pretty confused by our interest in him. I know Boals loves having a ton of guards, but it makes me think that we're not confident that we have a post-Pavs PG on the roster or amongst signees.
You'd think Elliott would be that guy, but who knows.

I'm not sure if this staff has ever seen E2 as the PG in waiting. He's athletic enough to be a 2 guard and hasn't shown that court vision or distribution ability yet to be a 1 - not that he may not have it. I'd love to have him as a tall PG, but maybe they're thinking differently?
Duncan does have a tight handle and appears to have a quicker shot than Sheldon. Though it does worry me he never saw any action at Texas Tech.

I can't be the only one who saw Elliot as a natural PG with his playmaking ability. If I recall, Dusty May referred to him as a "true facilitator".
I don't worry about any of these D2 transfers that have a long list of equal or better schools interested. To me, that's a good sign.
I'll also add our interest in the Lincoln Memorial kid makes you wonder if Pavs or Elliot could be out the door. Bringing in another PG for this year doesn't seem like the best allocation of open schollies.

A few new recent portal adds staff his following.
Jake Wahlin of Utah. 6’10 put up 6.5ppg and 5rpg. These are usually the types we haven’t landed historically. He’s only a sophomore, but can clearly play at P5 level.

Collin Parker of Columbia College (D3). 6’8, put up some numbers - 23ppg, 10rpg, and 2bpg while shooting 46% from 3 on 199 attempts.

Collin Parker to Austin Peay.
Back to back Days AP lands two lower level bigs.
Grabbed D2 (Sioux Falls) Creighton Morisch yesterday who is coming off a 14ppg and 11rpg season with a conference DPOY award.
Schools are going to have to move quick on size, regardless of level it seems.

More of a guess, but staff is following both of the agents/reps for Merrimack’s Bryan Etumnu. He doesn’t appear to be on social media himself. He’s 6’7 and it sounds like he played the 5.
Only 8ppg and 6rpg, but averaged 2.3 bpg and won MAAC DPOY. Has great 100 possession and Per 40 stats.
100 possessions - 17ppg, 12rpg, 5bpg
Per 40 mins - 11pg, 8rpg, 3bpg
Winning DPOY and the block numbers sound like the scrappy interior presence we could really use even if on the smaller side of the”bigs”.

Id take a guy like that, for sure. Seems long and like he can change shots. Okay rebounder. Maybe not ideal if we only add one big, but my hope is more roster spots open and we bring in at least 2 bigs.

Agreed we need to add 2 bigs ideally, but I’d be a fan of this add even if it’s the only one. He had 6 blocks in 3 separate games — Iona (made MAAC tourney finals) and Quinnipiac (finished 1st in regular season) among the 3.
Give me a guy who is that active defensively in the post all day. It’s an element this team desperately needs.

Why do we "need" to add 2 bigs exactly? At any time there's only 2 on the floor, and Boals prefers to play a 4 out, 1 in, so only 1 on the floor at a time.
Split the difference and say 1.5*40 minutes is 60 minutes a game for "bigs".
We assume we're adding one. We already have Hadaway, Kuany, Evans and quasi Mobley. That's 5.
If Hadaway is playing 28 minutes a night. Incoming big is a starter who plays 20-22 minutes. That only leaves 10-12 minutes for the bench. I think Kuany and Evans can fill that just fine.
Do we really need a 6th big so 4 bench guys can fight over 12 or so minutes a night? Basically ensuring 2 of them never see the floor.

Because everyone you listed outside of Hadaway is unproven.

So we're just assuming no players will ever go from little playing time to some playing time? What if Kuany was good enough to play last year but didn't bc of the visa/redshirt issues? What if Evans actually realizes some of his potential and improves? We don't even need BOTH of them to contribute a ton of minutes. Either both play a little or one or the other emerges as our 3rd big off the bench.
If you're recruiting a 6th big you might as well cut Kuany and Evans now.
And if you're going to say a guy better play and contribute as a freshman or they're worth cutting, then expect to never recruit another HS big ever again.
Which means you better be willing to break out your non-existent burrito buggy NIL to sign all those portal bigs we will be relying on every year.
If one or either gives us any quality minutes next year we don't "need" another big at all. Just not enough minutes to go around IMO.
