Miami did not play one power four school this season but lost to Indiana and Michigan last season. The Redhawk schedule this season is similar to what the Bobcats faced in 2023-24 and 2024-25 with no power four schools on the schedule.
But no not similar. 24-25 in particular was a long list of solid opponents. Without looking, I would bet we played 5-6 teams with much higher computer rankings than any of the teams Miami played this year. It wasn't just the lack of P4 for Miami it was the low quality of the mid-majors. And 2 of their toughest opponents were dictated to them from the Sun Belt challenge.
Miami's schedule is currently ranked 198th. Our schedule last year was 202nd.

According to this source, at least: https://www.teamrankings.com/ncaa-basketball/ranking/sche... .

But honestly, all of the Miami schedule talk is just petty and sad. Our SOS is 180th at the moment. There are 365 DI schools; the difference between 180 and 198 is pretty insignificant.

And the whole discussion's made all the more silly by the fact that we have a whole conference worth of shared opponents with Miami. They've beaten all of them, we're 9-8 in conference.

We're a .500 team over two seasons where our SOS averaged 191. And we're trying to act like 30-0 isn't a big deal because their SOS is 198? Just sort of sad.
+1

The end of the world may be near, I've found myself agreeing more and more with you, SBH and bobcatsquared in recent weeks.

I don't know what the deal is with your 198 SOS ranking for Miami, every news story all season long mentions an SOS deep in the 300s. NET has them at 364th and KenPom 360th. Anything saying their schedule is top 200 is way off base.

How could you possibly think their SOS is as high as 198 when they have only played 2 games against top 150 opponents?

Agree 100 percent BLSOS! Especially the last paragraph. Also Akron, Miami and Duke lead the country in home consecutive wins with 31, according to the tv broadcast of Akron and NI tonight.

Millett is an absolute hole and needed to be replaced. Perhaps the most depressing place I've watched an NCAA basketball game in many years. No one can credibly argue that it didn't need to be replaced.

Granted, the Convo is old, and way too big, but it's head and shoulders above Millett. Steele will be off to greener pastures next year - remember pre-portal when Groce fled after an acceptable regular season and a great post season run? (AND he was getting 100% of his minutes back in Athens the next year). In addition, the portal and graduation will not be kind to them.

They're going to have a beautiful new facility - good on them (one that we'll wish we had). They'll have a nice place to hang their perfect regular season banner while they watch a mid-pack MAC team.

Nobody that is a Bobcat fan is thrilled about it, but Miami has it going athletically the last few seasons. Miami mens and womens teams just won a regular season basketball title. The mens basketball program was ranked in the top 20 and went unbeaten in the regular season. The football program has played in the last three MAC championship games and won once. The softball program has won four consecutive conference championships and is favored again this season. Throw in
The RedHawks winning the 2025 baseball league championship. That is nice run of success.

Leadership has it's advantanges.

When you have strong vision and execution in the Athletic Dept offices it trickles down. Culture of winning is not just luck and "I wish". Right Coaches, good facilities, and a vision for future additions, paired with a good culture. Putting the right things in place for the entire operation gets results.

With all the pub around Miami Basketball this year anyone else think all those folks from the Chicago suburbs won't be sending their kids to Oxford?

Something like 30% of their students. They tell themselves that they're kids who don't want to go to UI or Northwestern. Reality is that they're kids who didn't get into UI or Wisconsi. or Purdue or Indiana and never had a chance at NW. They're Chicago's safety school for affluent kids.

My youngest daughter wanted to go to Northwestern, she was admitted, but we said no way "dearest daughter" when they gave us a seminar on how to get a second mortgage on our home to finance her tuition. She ended up at her safety school -- the University of Michigan with a scholarship.

Given the current state of college athletics, having a pipeline of wealthy kids is a good spot to be in.

Drive around Oxford and look at the plates on all the nice cars with frat/sorority stickers. DuPage, Lake, and McHenry County High Schools are well represented. Easy to find Miami sweatshirts in Downtown Naperville clothing stores.

Millet Hall is just fine, as is every other college arena. All this is about the AD and president, etc. saying “look what I did”! It won’t change anything. Robert Morris has been very successful and they build a new arena several years ago. I attended a game recently and there were literally under 100 people there. I counted them.

I saw something today, that I didn't hear and don't think was mentioned here before, but apparently Travis Steele's wife is extremely wealthy. She hails from the McCaw family and is entrenched in Cincinnati area businesses and philanthropy. I believe they have had several businesses in investment, real estate, professional services, etc. and assets in the billions. To me this is more troubling than any arena or other positive momentum for Miami. Not only could it mean Steele isn't motivated by money, but it could be a revenue source for the program very close to home. And may have a strong desire to stay local. Could be nothing, but thought I would pass along.

It’s actually the most important piece to the Steele Miami puzzle. Heard she doesn’t want to leave the Cincinnati area.

I mentioned this earlier by referring to his wealth brother-in-law. As I understand it the money comes not directly from this wife, but from her brother.
