I have no idea if this is the reason, but with 13 teams the MAC slate has to start early and have byes for everyone scattered because there are an odd number of teams. If the MAC hands you a schedule and you decide that you want a game on a very specific date in those byes but prefer easy games during the MAC slate, well, probably negotiations on November and early December games have been ongoing even if yet to be finalized, but suddenly finding someone that is willing to do a buy game on short notice on that exact date when a most dates are also unavailable after early December for almost everyone, your choices might become very, very limited.
There are only 12 teams in the MAC and we have a balanced double round robin schedule. We had 13 for just 1 season when we added Umass and had not yet lost NIU. With NIU gone we are back to 12 for 2026-27. Not to be confused with Football, which took on Sac State for 5 years and a sack of cash to bring them to 13.
Yeah, you are correct, obviously. We still ended up with byes in the conference schedule but, since this is apparently now intentional, we might have known what they were before the full conference schedule was determined. It is still after many conference have started conference play.

Boy was that a great game! If this team lives up to that standard, we are in a for great ride this year.

Toledo released its non-conference. Only one game for month of December against Oakland on the 16th. The rest of the slate is squeezed into November sans 2nd SBC game. No non-D1 opponents, so well done on its part.

Last year, I was expecting a strong team at least partially based on the strength of schedule. This year, perhaps a less challenging schedule to allow the team to adjust to all the new parts. Now? We're looking at only 3 teams listed on the schedule via D1 Docket. Time to pull the rabbit outta the hat!

A full Ohio men’s basketball schedule not released by September 1st is a tradition unlike any other.

Might be worth gambling money wise.

Perhaps a power conference team needs to fill a spot late and pays a nice kitty to bring the Bobcats into their town? A full schedule early and that is not possible.

Back in the day we used to play these guys all the time. We also had Home and Home with Louisville. Different era.

We are in an MTE. The Jacksonville Classic November 23-25. The field includes Miami (OH), UIC, Lamar, New Mexico State, Rice, and Robert Morris. Seven teams. Last year this event had 10. And going off last year, this is not a tournament, but preset matchups and two games apiece. Probably destined for Flohoops.

As long as we avoid Miami until a potential final, this is fine along with the Morehead game.

Records a season ago:
UIC: 19-16
Rice: 13-18
Lamar: 12-19
NMST: 16-16
RMU: 22-11
Morehead: 20-13

I was actually expecting worse with how late we are with the schedule release and lack of space in December.

Edit - if it's not a tournament and instead 2 set games, I'd like to think we won't be paired with a conference rival. Uneven teams is kinda wonky.

It's not a tournament and there's no way they would match up conference opponents. This is just straight up two games (I think just two, three would put us at 32 games and the event was two games apiece last year).

Yea, caught that last minute. Give me RMU in at least one. Seem to be becoming a strong low-major.

Holy crap Miami is actually going to play non-terrible teams out of conference!!!

Won't be Miami or Morehead. Doubt it will be RMU. Probably either Rice or Lamar and either UIC or NMST.

Miami released their non conference schedule today. Still no power schools or other real name programs.

Who the heck is "Union Commonwealth" anyway?

If you were expecting to see Indiana or Ohio State or Purdue on the Fiami OOC schedule...of course that is not going to happen. After the beating the 5th place team in the SEC put on them, they don't want any part of real competition.

Not to mention losing to the 8-seed in Cleveland.

Sorry (not sorry) to those who turned into Fiami fans last season at least until the hilarious ass beating they took on national TV that day.

Outside of our non-D1's I've never heard of, this is fine. RMU on the road is will be a sneaky tough game.

Guessing we won't see RMU in Jacksonville Classic now because of that. Our schedule feels like we did what we could with the availability we had.

We gonna add any exhibitions???

First four home games against teams with blue and yellow color schemes, if you wanted to keep track.

Would prefer 1 terrible D47 team not two, and replaced with a decent opponent, but otherwise I like it. One goliath and a few solid peers.

Probably just have a couple secret scrimmages instead of exhibitions apparently.
