Starts tomorrow and goes for three days. Here is the MLB.com scouting report on Ohio's Seth Streich

Streich, Seth Ohio University RHP L/R 6'03" 210 1991-02-19 JR
http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/images/events/draft/bg_comment.jpg); background-repeat: repeat no-repeat; ">Comments: Streich mostly started at Ohio but might have to move to the bullpen at the next level. His stuff -- a fastball that can touch the mid-90s and a power slider -- could play up in a relief role. His command has been inconsistent, another reason why shorter stints out of the pen might make more sense.

Sixth round, that's pretty good. The A's are known for developing pitchers so that's a good thing, too.

A total of 18 MAC players picked. Buffalo catcher Tom Murphy was the highest, going in the third round.

Most came from Kent State (six) and Central Michigan (five). Four of CMU's were pitchers. Toledo (two) was the only other MAC school with more than one player selected. The other three players were from Akron, Northern Illinois and Eastern Michigan.

The Tigers, Rockies and Rangers all took two MAC players.

One interesting player picked was Terrance Owens of Toledo in the final round by the Padres. He has been one of the Rockets' quarterbacks there and has not played baseball there.

I was pretty surprised Streich went that high.  The A's must really like what they see...As was well documented in moneyball, the Athletics typically value players that have proven themselves thru statistics rather than going off the potential that a scout sees....But Seth definitely falls under the latter category.

never argue with idiots, they bring you down to their level and beat you with experience.

Seth picked up his first professional win tonight with the SS Vermont Lake Monsters. Pitched 2.1 innings, gave up 1 hit and struck out 3.

In 6.1 IP in the NYPL, he has given up 3 ER and struck out 8 while only walking 1.

Reliever Seth Streich (1-0) got a strikeout to end the fifth, then allowed just one hit over the next two innings to earn the victory. Streich worked out of runner on third and one out jam in the seventh with a strikeout and groundout, t

Not even close to the Moneyball philosophy.

Seth fits right into the Moneyball philosophy because he is a 2nd round talent that fell to the 6th round due to injury. Moneyball is about finding inefficiencies in markets and players that other teams have looked over for whatever reasons yet still have valuable talent; it's not just about stats. He has the stuff to be an elite reliever and the A's got him for cheap.

I realize that is part of it as well, but the Moneyball philosophy has also blatantly brushed off "potential" and "stuff" often and looked hard at numbers/proof.  I remain surprised by the Athletics selection.
