I heard he left Athens right after season ended.  Any truth?

The last I heard is he was going to relocate to Columbus so he could be closer to an International Airport. Both of his daughters live in Chicago so it makes sense.

As far as baseball, my guess is he will continue to work in some capacity with the Great Lakes Summer League. Although, that league has certainly seen its better days. Hasn't really been the same since it lost the Cows and All-Americans.

Uhhhh....no. It will be a cold day in you-know-where before he gives his support to this staff.

Yeah he showed up in the 7th inning and tried to bench one of his former players for laying down a successful bunt for using a "basehit bunt" technique rather than a "sacrifice bunt" technique. Even though the bunt was successful and moved the runners along to score the winning run.

I heard he wanted to call time and pinch hit for a freshman mid at-bat after taking a fastball for a strike.

That just puzzles me.  He recurited these ball players.  And spent 24 years as Coach.  And because he did not get his way, he won't support and stand by those young men that he "believed in."  WOW.  Pathetic.

There were 2 different Carbone's. The one that recruited you and your family during the recruiting process. And the one that coached you everyday after you stepped on campus. Totally different people.

If this is truly how Carbone thinks (I'll give him the benefit of the doubt that he doesn't, because I don't think he is THAT much of a baby), doesn't this really show the true side of him? This sounds a lot more like "all about me" than "all about Ohio."

Hey guys, why don't you do everyone a favor, and get the hell off Coach Joe Carbone.?  You have already ruined this portion of the Bobcat website with all of your negativity and personal attacks that are so obviously personal that is sickening.
P.S.    Bobcat 28,   If you were sent to the plate to sacrafice bunt, and move a runner over, and you selfishly did not follow intstructions and bunted for a base hit instead, it doesnt matter even if you were successful. ! You did not do what you were asked to do by your coach for your team.  That is baseball 'ass-backwards", and any baseball person understands that fact.  Your comments about this play tell me all I need to know about your baseball I.Q., and possibly explains why you had so much trouble with Coach Carbone.  There is a right way to play the game and wrong way to play the game.  Trying to bunt for a base hit when you have been asked to sacrafice and move the runner over tells it all !  Any coach who knows the game would have benched you too  !!

You better inform your fellow Athens Mafia member then. He's the one who made mention of the fact that Carbone wants nothing to do with the program now. If he's speaking the truth, that's absolutely pathetic.

I wonder if I should mention sacrifice bunting is usually playing baseball the wrong way...

Talked to Joe this morning and he is enjoying retirement. He said he runs every morning then works out at the local rec center and then hits the golf course. Said he missed a 10 point buck while bow hunting recently and plans on hunting back in PA soon.

Hey double dribble. Maybe you need to stick to basketball. Joe Carbone was nothing but a liar. He lied to our faces about his impeccable program and what his plans were for our Bobcat. All he did was bring those young men down with his negative comments and sarcastic remarks. Apparently you didn't make it to any of the games last year because if you did you would have seen it for yourself. My son wasted an entire year and that idiot took the love and passion he has had all his life for the game of baseball right out of his heart. Get your facts straight before you start spewing crap. His departure was long overdue and I'm thankful that Scott Malinowski was the one who found my son and recruited him so Carbone won't get the credit. Joe is gone so now this is a baseball feed about the New Bobcat Baseball legacy under Coach Smith so get over it. Take your Bobcat bashing elsewhere where someone will give a crap because we don't want it here. If you can't support Coach Smith and our Bobcats then do us all a favor and exit gracefully please. Sincerely a very happy and proud Bobcat Mom! PS. I too have claws!!!

Get off it, you and your family choose the program and the school. You knew who the coach was, just because lil' Johnny didn't become the star, you now want to bash! Give it a break, the program has a fresh start, that is great, but Coach Carbone did many great things for his kids and many today care about him like a father. Sure not everyone had great experiences, but when you are working with large numbers of kids, not everyone will always be happy.

Bobcat mom etc...I have seen many more baseball games at Ohio, and practices at Ohio than you can imagine, or compare to.     You are so wrong about what has happened with Ohio baseball...I do not have the time, or the will to try to help you understand it.  You are having enough trouble understanding it yourself, so I will not cloud the issue by trying to help you see things more clearly.  Good luck.  I hope that you learn from your experiences going forward.  How you like life after Joe so far ??? ??  I am pulling hard for Bobcat baseball now, as I always have.  Back the coach, back the kids, back the program.  Do we have Bob Wren coaching ?  Nope.   Do we have Joe Carbone coaching ?  No.   But we do have a new coach that we need to support.  Coach Smith. What he does in the next few years will tell us if we can mention his name in the same breath as other coaches or not.....  I am hoping that we will be able to match his record and reputation with those who have gone before.   That is all I ask for, or hope for !  Let's go Bobcats !!
