I think the XFL and the AAF will continue to show the NCAA model is pretty sweet for 18-22 year old without any stipends whatsoever. You can make $50K-$100K for a few years with the XXF/AAF and then figure out what you want to do with your life, or be a BMOC and graduate with a degree and even be a star with shoe deals waiting for you (Trevor Lawrence) when you graduate due to where you played (full stadiums, rabid fans, national TV) as much as who you are.

But, I digress.

Should the XFL offer Trevor Lawrence $1 million and an insurance deal to ditch the NCAA? Would he take it? Would you?

As I posted on another thread, according to sports reports out here, based on what happened to the AAF ,the XFL is having second thoughts about their league.

Lawrence is only 19.
It doesn't seem worth risking your future NFL career for 1 million, less taxes, now.

I've also heard a number of former players saying that their 4 years in college were the best years of their lives.
They said he should enjoy the ride in college. The NFL money and endorsements will be there.

I bet Trevor Lawrence is already close to making whatever $1 Million after taxes would be at Clemson. Maybe more.

I haven't seen this anywhere. Oliver Luck has been all over ESPN talking about how they are confident in their plan. Vince McMahon has liquidated something like $300 million in WWE stock to fund it. Do you have a link?

They were made by the broadcasters on WFAN Sports radio.

If I am Lawrence, assuming he wins another National Championship, I would transfer to UCLA, takes a few classes, hang out on the beach, sit in on Quarterback meetings to soak up knowledge and avoid the risk of injury before declaring for the draft.

Insurance is very common and cheap provided the protection you desire. Mainly on catastrophic injury. Romberg though, the company has their own doctors, and a common injury like an ACL is not a collector today.

$300 Million, 2 guys alone bankrolled $240 Million each and the AAFL folded, unless the NFLPA gets on board no minor league will fli unless someone with much deeper pockets come calling. But the NFLPA is about protecting current members, and with at less than 4 year life expectancy
The young members are probably not about to vote away their positions unless retirement vestment is modified. However due to federal laws it’s still 59 1/2:, so unless NFL salaries become guaranteed, do not hold your breath.

I would think that,if they could set up a system where,if a player made an NFL roster, the time spent in a league like the AAF counts towards a pension, that could be palatable to the NFLPA.

Same thing,if an NFL player goes to a "lower" league, their time in that league would still count towards their pension.

Does anyone know how baseball deals with this, since they have players bouncing between AA,AAA and the majors all the time ?

There's an article in today's (4/17) The Record about the N.Y. XFL franchise naming their coach.

Looking at XFL teams, they picked warm weather cities or domes.
Except, they also have teams in NY and DC.

Guess they didn't learn from the USFL.

Its not easy to get people to go to Met Life in February/March.
I would think DC will have the same problems.

The USFL also had all kinds of problems with projectiles (snow and ice balls) flying out of the stands.
