Newest article: http://www.cleveland.com/osu/2017/12/joe_burrow_on_his_un...

I hope he wins out at Spring Ball. But if he doesnt, I hope he goes to a school like Louisville. Lamar Jackson will be gone and they throw the rock.

The latest I've heard, from someone who usually has an accurate reading on the OSU program, is that Burrow may very well end up at Nebraska...

If he doesn't win the QB battle in Spring, it will be lost time he could have made a name and earn the respect of his new teammates. I hope he wins the battle. He is a great kid!

Regarding the question of how many players, who didn't start elsewhere, transferred to the MAC, started, and made it to the NFL (none), it's perhaps a better question to ask how many players who couldn't win the starting job at their first school of choice transferred anywhere else, and made it to the NFL? I'm guessing that the answer is a very low number, but I know it isn't zero. I can think of one person who did that. About forty years ago Vince Ferragamo was beaten out for the starting job at U. Cal. by Steve Bartkowski, transferred to Nebraska, and eventually played in the Super Bowl. Bartkowski was also an NFL quarterback, obviously.

So, has anyone else who couldn't win a starting job in college transferred and made it to the NFL? Anyone in the last twenty years?

He can't transfer before May anyway. If he did, he'd lose a year of eligibility.

Troy Aikman? He won the starting job, but then transferred to UCLA after Oklahoma returned to the wishbone.

Davis Webb? He was beaten out by Baker Mayfield, then won the starting job, then lost it to Patrick Mahomes before transferring to Cal. He's the Giants' backup currently, so maybe that doesn't count as "making it in the NFL."

It's time for people to move on - he's not coming to Ohio. Also, he's probably not ever playing meaningful minutes at OSU. And, at the end of the day, it really doesn't matter. I enjoyed watching a good number of his games in high school. He was a fun player to watch...one of the best out of this area ever.

From a recruiting standpoint, it's clear that he prioritized "name brand" over playing time, and that's up to him. It may have cost him an NFL chance, but it's his choice.

Thank you! This is comical. Here's a great idea: Let's send a message and bring in a new QB, replace a guy responsible for 38 TD's, replace a guy who is 2nd Team All-MAC in his first year (with a mediocre WR Core) for an unknown outcome with the circus around bringing in a kid who's Dad is a Coach. Yea...Yea...that's the plan.

Stop.

Webb isn't even the "back-up".
He's the third string Q.B.

He was inactive most games and has never taken a regular season snap.

There's also a lot of talk that, with second pick, the Giants will draft either the UCLA or USC Q.B.

I think it will be Texas. I spend a fair amount of time in Austin and I think they need a QB with his credentials. Good fit with Herman and I agree the Big10 usually doesn't have in conference transfers, so Nebraska could be out for that reason. If there is no gentlemen's agreement I think Lincoln is a good fit too.

Lots of rumors but I was told that Meyer was in Athens at the Burrow home the day after he won the national championship a few years back.

Rule out Youngstown State. Bo Pelini not a favorite of Solich and staff.

He would beat Rourke, Rourke is good, Burrow is already an NFL talent.

I don't understand how you can say he's an NFL talent when he's not even OSU's backup and, as was posted earlier, he's never had a "meaningful' snap ?

OSU isn't interested in NFL talented QB's. They don't play or produce NFL talented QB's. If Sam Darnold had been on OSU they would have made it to the playoffs and won the title. But wait, OSU coaches wouldn't have played Darnold even if they had him. Why JB ever decided to go to Ohio State is beyond me. Millenials love OSU and can't resist the lure. Oh well. Now he knows. But hey, I realize I'm just an OU grad with a computer and internet access.

He cannot go anywhere until after Spring Semester, so he’s “losing zero time” anywhere.

I'll give you a dark horse. NC State.

I remember from his HS recruiting that there was mutual interest between he and NC State. Ryan Finley is locked in as the started -JB would not beat him out, but Finley is projected as the #6 QB in the draft and many are expecting he will declare (he is 23 so time is ticking on him). If he does leave, they will need a replacement. Burrows could then step in to a program that has a strong history of putting QBs in the NFL. It will depend on Finley's decision, but NC could be a nice fit (which I also thought back when he was in HS).

The only thing I agree with you here is that millennials do, in fact, love osu.

Where do the rest of your claims come from? OSU isnt interested in NFL talent level qb's? LOL at that.

bshott, I'd take issue with a few of those you identified, at least to the extent it was because the player couldn't win a starting job. Off the top of my head:

Russell Wilson (NC State to Wisconsin) - NC State wouldn't let him play baseball in the spring, so he graduated and transferred.

Ryan Mallet (Michigan to Arkansas) - Mallet won the job at Michigan, but transferred to Arky to be closer to home, plus RichRod wanted to run the spread. That's similar to the Aikman example where it was an offense switch. The difference is that Oklahoma switched offenses without switching coaches.

Cam Newton (Florida to Auburn) - Newton was kicked out of Florida for theft, went JUCO, then wound up at Auburn. He'd probably have won the Gator job if he hadn't stolen a laptop.

Ok ... eliminate those three and there are still a decent number there. it's not unheard of to transfer to play and then make it to the NFL as a QB. But as previously mentioned ... you DO NOT transfer to MAC to school to make that happen.

I just saw Nebraska's new QB Martinez, a high school all-American, JB can definitely beat him out. If he leaves, he should go somewhere that he can both pass and run the ball. He should also make sure that the team has a good line. JB looks like a player, I hope that he gets to play somewhere.

Nobody despises to lose more than I do. That's got me into trouble over the years, but it also made a man of mediocre ability into a pretty good coach. Woody Hayes

Just saw speculation on the Gopher board that JB might transfer to UC because of the Fickel-OSU connection. That would be horrible, IMHO. I can see it now, we play UC next fall and our DC's son has a record setting day against us. We'd be the laughing stock of the state. If that happens, we GOT to win that game.
