I read that and thought surely you were mistaken. We couldn't have been below 500 for 3+ years. Surely we won our MAC opener to at least be 1-0 or something during that stretch.

Alas, you're absolutely correct. This is astounding to me.

How quickly we (or at least I) forget how truly bad those last two seasons were under Saul.

That Jaylin Walker jumper really did us in.

Timeline of events:

-Walker sinks jumper
-Simmons doesn't get a shot off
-Simmons transfers to Michigan
-BVP done for the year before 2017-18 tips
-Jason Carter plays three games before getting injured for the season
-Laster, Block, Dartis all battle injuries throughout the season
-Jimmy G shows promise in several games
-2018-19 Carter and BVP back
-Future is somewhat bright
-Jordan Dartis ruled out for all of 2018-19 season
-Jimmy G plays six games before injured for the entire season
-Bobcats basically play a roster of Carter, BVP, Kirk, Cowart, Block and Doug Taylor all season and struggle. Introduction of Preston and Murrell.
-Saul is fired
-Carter transfers

(somewhere before or during all of that, Saul's wife Nicole battles breast cancer)

Just a snowball of S**T

Let's trash Saul some more.

So we just forget the injuries? Okay.

But let's at least realize the JP and BVP, who are pretty much carrying the team with Wilson are Saul's recruits.

Take them away and we definitely have a losing record this year.

I would say that you are partly correct with giving Saul credit for recruiting Jay Preston and BVP. I would go further to say that Boals has developed them, which is something Saul never did. Very rarely did his players get any better. Dougie stayed the same. Block regressed. Kirk stayed the same. Dartis stayed the same (reliable yet the same). Others transferred before we could see if they would stay the same. There were very few jumps (other than Laster and Saul tried like heck to not play him for some reason his soph and junior seasons).

Mike Laster got better, a lot better. Treg Setty got better, a lot better. Antonio Campbell got better, a lot better and then got hurt. Mike Taylor got better. James Gollon got better and then got hurt. Gavin Block got hurt and then played out of position to help the team because so many other guys were out. Jordan Dartis probably would have gotten better but he got so badly hurt it was a wonder he actually made it back on the court.

But the injuries weren't the only reason Saul didn't win. He just refused to hold his players accountable for their on the court mistakes.

Many of those players named simply were not MAC championship athletes. No offense to them, they all played hard, but they were not next level players. Next level being MAC title type.

Funny, nobody was saying that when Ohio was 11-3 (3-0 in MAC play) and rolling before Campbell went down. That was a championship caliber team. The injuries to all of the best players on the squad forced guys to play out of position and Ohio to rely on guys who were expected to be role players, not superstars. So yeah, you're right we didn't have a roster full of All MAC players, but who does? We had some dudes.

News Flash, championship caliber teams win championships. Just like NBA talent plays in the NBA.

Go ahead and keep bashing Saul. Not that anyone cares, but the guy is 12-0 this season and was 26-6 last year. Sure he didn't get it done at Ohio, but the man is a good coach and a great person.

From a post above. "Saul never developed his players. Very rarely did his players get any better." Maybe that isn't bashing, but it sure isn't a compliment!
