Intriguing stats thru 3 games:

BVP and Ogbonda shooting 75% and 60% respectively from 3, yet only 43% and 56% from the line.

3-pt % will definitely come down. Hoping their FT shooting improves markedly.

Thankfully we'll have Jordie (100% FT) and Preston (82%) with the ball in their hands late in games.

And yes, I realize the sample size is miniscule.

As I stated last night in the football thread, who would have thought in September that by November, basketball would be where the hope would lie for the rest of the season? I mean beating two quality opponents on the road, especially in this game where Iona kept coming back. The tough part comes this Saturday with what one would think would be an angry Villanova squad, returning to the Wells Fargo Center in Philly after getting thumped in Columbus tonight.

It is amazing to think that we are doing this without key players. It will be nice for a change that MAC opponents might be a little nervous when facing the supposed cellar dweller Bobcats. You just gotta wonder what's going through the minds of those who were in Athens last year, but aren't this year?

Well, to be fair, what's going through Jason Carter's mind right now is that he's starting for a top 25 team which is also 3-0. I doubt he's looking wistfully eastward.

I wasn't exclusively thinking about Jason, more specifically members of the former coaching staff. Though they may be happy for the success, yet human nature has got to kick in and wonder in light of the basement projections and last year's more lofty pick, what's happening and why?

Oh, gotcha. Yes, numerous times tonight I wondered if former coaches were wondering where that three point shooting was last year.

Yes but Jordy is not shooting the three particularly well (34%) . . . yet.

Holy Bobcat Batman! Who are those guys? There are so many good things which have been missing in the recent past. Amazing outside shooting, so amazing in fact that it cannot be expected to last (52% from 3), excellent defense and good passing. Noticeable, however, is the lack of consistent rebounding except for Foster ( who I had pegged for redshirt). Going forward we will need a much stronger inside presence for nights when we don’t hit 50% from 3 as well as much more depth. That said, if Price and Miles Brown are as good as McDay, this could be a year to remember.

I always tell myself we aren’t as good as we look when we win and we aren’t as bad as we look when we lose... but this group of young men are a lot of fun to watch right now.

I don't want to get too excited, because while Iona is a solid program I still consider them a tier below where we should be. But this is exactly the type of game many previous Bobcat teams would lose (while being favored). I am super excited about the outside shooting...last year was so painful in that department. There is a lot more to a shot than the shot though...I think the ball movement and synergy of the team is just so much better. That starts with the guy bringing the ball up the court. Man what a start to the season for JP. He played all 40 minutes, just as he did against St Bonnie. If Miles Brown doesn't make it back, he may be doing that regularly. We may need to work McDay in at the point some against some of our lower level opponents in December.

Did anyone catch that tonight was the 1 and only home game Iona will have until January? Pretty crazy.

Absolutely. Roderick and Murrell will lend depth and if Brown is as good as advertised we can get some rest for OUr guys like BVP, Preston and Dartis. I have to say big props to McMurray, Foster and Springs for stepping up and providing key minutes. I think they were like 5 and 6 minutes but it seemed like they were all hustle and unafraid out there. In the past if we had injuries like we did to start the year it seemed like all was lost. But Boals has a way of motivating and coaching these guys up. Interested to see what we do against Nova. I don't care if we lose by 25 point...I have a feeling it won't feel like it!!

Just need to remember that most of these guys are super, super young and there will be growing pains along the way. But let's enjoy this while we can, right?

The guys look well coached and more finely tuned than previous years. The in game coaching (specifically use of TOs to stop runs) is better. Seems like almost everyone is getting a chance to contribute simply because the coaches dont know exactly what we have just yet. Long ways to go, but there are signs of a good basketball team in there.

Any road win against a division I program is good. So far they have exceeded expectations.

Having a great point guard just makes the game much easier for everyone else. Ball comes to the shooting pocket on time and in rhythm. Plus, you know you are going to get the ball when you are open. Makes busting your butt on both ends of the court that much easier.

It's very early but Preston's numbers so far are pretty absurd: 18.0 ppg, 9.7 apg, 9.0 rpg.
