Also, for all of those who doubt whether we'll be able to attract quality candidates, this is still the best job in the conference. It's not just me saying that, but the MAC's own coaches:

I question that a little bit. It's clearly one of the best jobs. I'm not sure it's THE job. It all depends on the support the coaching staff recieves from the AD, and the University President. More and more, I get the feeling that McDavis drove things in The Convo to where they were more than anyone besides the coaching staff and team itself.

Buffalo is the best job IMO. Decent size market, great institutional support.

Think for a moment the world of hurt we would be in if we retained Saul.

I'll choose to think about the present, and the future. I can't worry about water under the bridge at this point.

Before we get too crazy excited about all these recruits let's assume not all of them will be stars if we can imagine such an extreme scenario :/ it's not that big a stretch to say that at least one of them will be transferring this time next year when they sit the bench more than expected in their first year. I'm not saying we should have kept Saul but we had Mcday already, and Roderick could easily have ended up here if Xavier didn't work out. Good guess Carter would have stayed. It's not hard to imagine a big rebound year next year with some good health.

The only negative I see in this transition from Saul to Boals is Carter leaving for X. All other variables add up to nothing but positives, short term and long.

I don’t think it’s constructive to focus on “what might have been”. I wish Coach Phillips great success in his future endeavors and am happy that Coach Boals is off to a strong start. Go Bobcats!

Thanks yet again. Your presence here as a newbie, and the constant negativity, has made me realize how pathetic some people are. So I have lots more time to do other more productive things rather than read your garbage.

Change your ID to "classless" maybe. It fits ....

I will say though, Boals has officially served me crow. His work on the recruiting trail has been nothing but impressive.

Bringing this whole thread back up was classless. Some of us did support retaining Saul. I will not shrink away from that fact. We will never know what that option would have resulted in. However, we had moved on, and I believe all of us are now on the Jeff Boals train and supporting him 110 percent. I'm impressed with his recruiting so far. I think he'll be a very good coach for OHIO. I wish Saul the best in his future endeavors. It'll be interesting to see how his career unfolds. Maybe he'll catch fire somewhere, or maybe he'll sink into oblivion at some small school. Time will tell. But, why in heaven's name dredge this back up? Just to rub salt in old wounds? Seems kind of vindictive to me.

We all love the Bobcats here. I would hope that as much time as we spend on the topic in comparison to so many alums of our Alma mater, and most especially other MAC alumnus who really don't seem to care about their school's athletics, that we try to bury the hatchet.

Ohio Cat Fan is a big fan of history as am I, so how about those of us who thought the last coaching staff were good and decent men, just in way over their head in this coaching assignment stop waving the Bloody Shirt. On the other hand those who defended the last regime make some attempt at a mea culpa and admit, as was the case in the Billy Hahn era that the past five years was a mess of their own making. We kind of meet in he middle and move forward spending our energies rallying around Coach Boals, his staff and the players on the roster for the 2019-20 campaign.

Could not agree more. Billy was and is a great guy but he wasn't ready at the time and had a depleted bench (coaches). The same could be said for Brian Knorr who also was a very nice guy. But when salaries approach what it would take a beginning teacher 10 years to make, there's this thing called accountability. It's a cold hard fact but if you want to play in the big leagues, that's what you have to be prepared for.

I'm 100% supportive of the new coaching staff. No problems with my Bobcat brethren and sitern.
