It has got to his head, the big ten is not that much better than the MAC. Michigan beat Central Michigan by two points. Simmons dominated Central Michigan when he played in the MAC. Simmons has struggled with his role and is suffering from doubt. Shannon Evans went from Buffalo to Arizona State and he is dominating.

The B1G is absolutely that much better than the MAC. Your one comparison of the Michigan schools isn't enough to make that statement reality. Consider with Evans that he's doing the exact same things for Hurley at ASU that he was at UB. That makes a difference. Simmons is struggling with his role because it's less than a year into a new offense for him, whereas for Simpson, it's year two. And, Simpson just might be a better player.

For the life of me, I could never understand why he'd want to go to Michigan. Go back near home to play at Dayton when they came calling? Yeah, for sure. I'd openly support that because it makes sense, and lots of players want to do it.

Zavier Simpson lost his job too. We beat Ohio State in a scrimmage last year. They have some elite teams, Michigan is not one. It's all in Jaaron's head, it is not the big bad B1G. We will play B1G teams in the future, we cannot afford to be gazers

Ohhhhh......congrats, we beat OSU in a closed scrimmage. Do we get rings for that? Are we hanging a banner tonight at the game? Did that help us with the selection committee last year? Anyone with any knowledge of athletics would know that "beating" someone in a scrimmage has no bearing or worth on the season.

Are you always gonna play your "moral victory", "gazer", etc. stuff? I thought by now you and I, and anyone else on here you play that card to, were well beyond that.

Simple facts - the B1G is light years ahead of the MAC in every regard - money, recruiting, resources, facilities. It's the way it is. Only the top 2-3 teams in the MAC can compete with the bottom three-quarters of the B1G on most nights. And 9.5 times out of 10, those top 3 teams in the MAC get absolutely shelled by the elite teams in the B1G. It's just the way it is.

Teams in the MAC have to have special players to beat B1G teams most nights. If you think back to 2012, DJ Cooper was that special player. (not that there weren't other good players on OUr team - he was beyond "MAC level talent".)
Simmons is not that special talent in the same way DJ was. It's not a slight to him - he was very good and fun to watch and root for.

From what I've seen this year, Simpson, Simmons, and Eli Brooks have been playing the PG merry go round, with Simpson and Brooks getting the lion's share of the minutes. Maybe Brooks is getting the start lately, but they're still playing relatively equal minutes thus far.

I don't play moral victories, I speak against them. I do not gaze, stars are up in the sky, so I speak against gazing. Western Kentucky just beat Purdue, Florida Atlantic beat OSU last year and we beat them in a scrimmage by 10 points. There is a lot of parity in college basketball, so the MAC can compete with B1G teams. CMU is a lower tier MAC school and they could have beat Michigan. Jaaron dominated them while playing at Ohio and he was marginal at best in a Michigan uniform. You don't have to be special to beat a B1G team, you just have to believe and execute, gazing usually gets you beat down the stretch sort of like us getting beat by Minnesota in football. We praised them during the pregame press conferences and said thing like we have to play a perfect game to win. We came out and played one of our worst games and still almost beat them. Play to win, not to participate and good things will follow.

The Big Ten is definitely better than the MAC overall but the top players in the MAC can play in the Big Ten or any other conference for that matter. I know the players on our 2012 team sure didn't look outclassed by the Big Ten. The bigger conferences have players that are typically more athletic especially when you are looking at the guys coming off the bench. I think Jaaron Simmons just didn't do his homework and went to a situation where they had options. He's also going from a coach who let him do his thing to one that expects him to do the coach's thing. But I'm certain that there are plenty of big schools that he could have gone to and prospered.

Yes if you don't build off of the scrimmage and execute going forward than there is no benefit. Athletic departments don't spend money on scrimmages for nothing, they do believe that there is utility. People have different motivating factors. I have seen one guy brag about breaking someone's leg with a water bucket during spring practice. That person believes that he played D1 sports vicariously through his water bucket tackle and this same person believes that he is an expert in D1 athletics; whose to say that a scrimmage cannot motivate a team or individual players on the team

+1

Though I would have stated it differently, I tend to agree with general sentiment expressed here. I do disagree that the Minnesota game is a good example. Frank always engages in "coach speak" before games, and he paints every team we face as a world-beater the week before the game, even if they are 0-9. But, the general point, that we do our best when we realize that we are not outclassed by another team just because they are in a P5 (P6) conference is spot on.

You and Ted more eloquently expressed, related to Jaaron, what I was hoping to get across. Which is to say Jaaron isn't sitting the bench because he's not good enough to play at all in the B1G. He's sitting because he went somewhere that has a ton of competition and isn't cutting it thus far.

But past that, comparing most basketball programs in the MAC to most of the B1G, well, with a few exceptions on a year by year basis, there's no comparison. The B1G is simply better.

Major defensive liability, below average shot, and has stints where he racks up a slew of turnovers....Saul let him do it and Beilein is not. None of this is new information.

The sad thing is, even with his shortcomings, he could have been a favorite for MAC POTY this year. Now he's been reduced to one notch above a walk on.

Whoever got in his ear and told him this was a good idea should be incarcerated.

Beilein got to where he is today by being a smart guy that does his homework so he knew what kind of player he was getting in Jaaron which begs the question...why did he want him?

It is like he is redshirting, Michigan is getting smoked by NC. They will not get an at large bid. The guards in front of Simmons suck. Simmons needs to come alive or his dreams of going pro or going to an A league are over.

Let it go! I really can’t believe some of the post I’m reading here. Jaaron has moved on and we should focus on our current team. I wish him well. Everyone was rooting for him when he was a bobcat last year and yes he was a excellent point guard for Ohio and will contribute to the Michigan team. I don’t blame him for taking the opportunity and I have mad respect for his strength to walk away from what is comfortable! Good luck and best wishes Jaaron.

Some of us do blame him, we are not rooting against him. We are voicing our opinions about his struggle. He has the right to do whatever he wants, just like we have the right to feel how we want. I believe he will emerge as a starter because none of the guards can shoot, it is all in his head. If we can have TOS to everywhere, we can have how will you follow Jaaron.

If you mean "his dreams of going pro" in reference to the NBA, well, that dream is and was a pipe dream.

Yes, you have the right to feel anyway you want about him leaving OU. Players will come and go and we need to move on. We need to focus on the current players and encourage them to play at their max potential. I am proud of these young men in how they are playing and we have a great team just need to get over some of the injuries and get the right combination of players on the floor to keep a consistent flow of the game. Most of the players on the team support Jaaron and if they can let it go so should we.

I was thinking the same thing. Bring out Flomo & Slimmy and we'd have a true HOF reunion on this post.

Just a few minutes of action tonight and no 2nd half minutes for J Smooth against Ohio State in front of his Dayton friends and family. Bad moment at end of game where Beilein was conducting a teaching moment with the bench players and Simmons just had his head down and couldn't look at him. What you say Bobcat Love? #LifeDecisions #HeMadeTheWrongChoice #Kirk>Simmons

Yes, I saw that. He is better than all of those guards, Beilein must have a personal beef with Simmons. Simpson and Abdur-Rahman would not start for most MAC teams.

Would you suppose that it's possible that, after 3-4 months, that Beilein knows which of his players is the best for his team? Just maybe?
