I'm shocked. SHOCKED I say. How dare someone shun the great power DePaul.

But seriously, stinks for Loyola.

During the season we have 4 teams that need court time. Men’s and women’s basketball and, I think, men’s and women’s volleyball. Do we still have volleyball?

There are 5 courts at Ping and the Convo court. Can’t we figure out how to use what we have? It’s no country club atmosphere, I grant you. Maybe a training table is needed in season. Are the players having trouble getting meals at the cafeteria?

Looking back, I appreciated being a regular student for the most part. I navigated the system and I feel it prepared me for life.

If I had to bet on it we'll see another building focused around the football program first because Solich could make a parting gift before retiring.

Most Memorable Bobcat Events Attended
2010 97-83 win over Georgetown in NCAA 1st round
2012 45-13 victory over ULM in the Independence Bowl

I may be wrong but way back when Ping opened and before that when the HPER courts were discussed on here it was well documented that the basketball team was forbidden from both those facilities. There was a discussion where the team and KVK were seen working out at some gym over by East State street after being thrown out of Ping. There seemed to be a part of that discussion about using the outdoor court by one of the Greens. There was also discussion about the players coming straight from class, not having time to hit a cafeteria on the way and athletes who live off campus not having access to food between class and practice. Places that understand nutrition, performance and the advances in training put "refueling stations" right in the facilities. John Groce was happy to get bottles of Muscle Milk in the locker room refrigerator to hold them over I recall in one thread. Anyone else remember those conversations?

Times change old boy. The guys you played with and against could not run with these dudes physically, mentally or socially.

Why would any student be banned from Ping? That makes no sense. I know things change and that physically, these players are superior to the players in my era. But mentally and socially? Please explain.
If we don’t have an in season training table currently, that would surprise me.

We cannot use Ping without paying the outrageous rental fee associated.

Athletes are not allowed to use Ping for any type of training or organized workouts.

That’s the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever heard. That’s like saying athletes can’t go to Alden Library. Who dreamed that policy up? Are you sure about that?

Not a student - so zero insider information on this - pure speculation (feel free to tell me I'm wrong). But, from my experience with other university athletic and rec centers.

They generally ban athletes from the rec centers (unless they reserve it and get it approved ahead of time) - because the demand from athletes is so high that if they DIDN'T - the rest of the student population would never get access to use the facilities that technically their fees paid for.

It's almost like athletes could/would make use of a dedicated facility 24/7/365 just for them!

Also, no D1 athletic team worth anything has "a training table" - they have a training ROOM/COMPLEX. With multiple tables and access. Shoot, most good HS teams have more than "a training table" these days. Multiple available trainers and doctors for taping, stretching, rehab etc. Access to nutritionists and hydration stations. Access to heat and cold therapies for both healing and rejuvenation. The difference between being #1 in the country and #100 is tenths of a percent. Nutrition, healing, hydration, psychology and overall health can add up to those tenths that make all the difference at the tip of the spear.

If that is the case something is wrong in Glocca Morra. If we have 5 courts at Ping and can’t use them for practice when it’s needed, that’s not right.

Selective amnesia. This has been going on since it was built and has been brought up several times. Before that the courts in the HPER building were the subject of discussion. Every time there is a volleyball game or a men's or women's basketball game or a wrestling meet the other teams move their times to accommodate the visitor's practice and shoot around and may be just out of luck. When the area is being used for graduation or anything else those athletes have no place to go.

You thinking it is not right will not change anything. Unless you have a plan to talk to Ohio administration and the people in charge hat run those facilities and change their views it will remain a problem. It may not even fit their mission or agreed upon access and usage. It kind of sucks, but it is a problem that needs solving. Make that STILL needs solving.

Last time I was in Ping, every rim was low, like three inches too short.

There used to be a gym in Grover next to Wellworks. I took a Tae Kwon Do class there. I think I heard it's been repurposed now. I don't think the teams ever made use of it, or if they were even allowed.

Sorry I'll side with the general student population here. The courts at ping are for the student body. That's bullshit if you can't go play hoops at the facility you pay for because the team is monopolizing the court.

I think they can use Ping as students on their own time. They just can not go down as an organized practice or training as part of team activities. It's been quite a while, but I know players could be seen there in the past.

When I was a student, I saw the team scrimmage each other a few times at Ping (and a funny skirmish between Bubba and KVK one time). No coaches were ever there and they would always be at non-primetime hours so they could have a good chance at a free court.

I recall back in the pre-Ping days seeing SBH and Mick Isgrigg going mano-y-mano once or twice at the old Grover Center before heading uptown for some adult beverages.

Thank God somewhat said it. The fact that we are even questioning why a practice facility is needed is laughable. A Division I school that just won an NCAA tournament game sometimes may have to practice at a local high school. Let that sink in for a minute.

This is correct. I played pick up with Sonny Troutman and a few others at Ping, but it was after the season and it was just for fun.
