Wake Forest, Duke, Vandy, Miss. State, Rutgers, California, Boston College, Washington State, Arizona, UVA, Syracuse, Purdue and a host of others won't be playing for a national championship either. It doesn't matter that they are in the power five. Those schools play in a larger conference, but they have no chance at winning a title. Sure they play in the ACC, SEC, Big Ten and Pac 12, but they have no shot at winning the big game. Boise State and UCF are in that same boat. The same group of schools are selected year in and year out for the final four teams.

Probably because that same handful of teams are year in and year out the best teams.

I'm with you, Pataskala.

Just like it was always Riverfront Stadium, where the Reds won the 1975, 1976, and 1990 World Series even after it was changed to Cinergy Field.

Just like it's always been Gund Arena that replaced Richfield Coliseum even after it was changed to Quicken Loans and then Rocket Mortgage.

I'm sure a lot of Cleveland baseball fans still call their stadium "The Jake" and will continue to use "Indians" and "the Tribe" even after the team's name is changed.

As for college football, the new classifications were meant to distinguish between 1AA's playoff system and 1A's BCS system. But the BCS system has morphed into a playoff, just with fewer teams, so the only real distinction is that a lot fewer 1A teams have a shot at a national championship compared to 1AA teams.

Other distinction might be that the NCAA actually runs the FCS playoffs and the FBS is run by a private entity.

I don't buy this. If any of those teams can put the dream season together, they'll earn their spot. Kansas got all the way to #2 in 2007, years before the CFP. Had they gone and won the Big 12, they would have been in the natty.

Exactly and if I go to a Browns home game, it's still Cleveland Stadium.

Is it Citi Field or Shea Stadium, rpbobcat?

Whenever a plane flies low over one of my son's youth baseball games I'll say that it's like we're playing at Shea Stadium. I don't expect the young ball players to get it, but I have dads look at me with no idea what I'm talking about.

Cincinnati did not make the mustard today. Would be different if these G5 schools could win the matchups against the 2-5 place P5 schools.

Some of You guys really nailed this! Clemson proved tonight that if anyone didn’t belong, it’s the Tigers of Clemson.

And then you have this:

SEC teams below .500 going bowling:

— 2-8 South Carolina (Gasparilla)
— 4-6 Kentucky (Gator)
— 3-7 Arkansas (Texas)
— 3-6 Tennessee (Liberty)
— 3-7 MissState (Armed Forces)

In the SEC if a team opts out of a bowl they do NOT get their share of the Bowl money. That’s why you see no SEC schools opting out.

Man Indiana really made their case today that they should have been in the B10 title game and on the national stage.
