The players will never have more leverage than they have when play resumes, whether that's this year or next. It's likely they don't care enough to act on it, but if they wanted to, the schools are up against a wall.

Or, is it the reverse? One could argue that Universities will never have an easier time making the decision to eliminate sports than when play resumes.

Seems extraordinarily unlikely that revenue sports will be eliminated at the P5 level.

Keep in mind that only perhaps 10-20 programs have a cash surplus from sports. If things are going to change due to Covid, or for other reasons, to make sports even less profitable, now would be an expected time for them to at least ask the question, "Are Sports a key mission of the University going forward?"

LC dropping facts. Just because it’s a revenue sport doesn’t mean it actually makes money. And I realize some of you do not like it, but college athletics is about equal opportunity amongst the genders.

Yes, I'm aware. But how much of that is because lack of cash coming in vs. the spending reality of being a 'not-for-profit.' I run my business at basically break even, on-purpose. I could change that by spending money differently. So could many, many P5 programs.

And just because an organization spends the cash they bring in doesn't mean that they couldn't choose to spend that money differently. But I'm sure the Iowa States of the world have absolutely no fat to trim and aren't spending money keeping 200 people in hotel rooms before home football games, or by having a traveling party of 600 people even when they're flying to West Virginia.

Couldn't they have waited to cancel the entire fall season till after the results from the vacations in Sturgis are known? Half naked chics and burley bikers spending lots of time together may have provided much evidence of those in close proximity.

No. There is already overwhelming evidence for how SARS-CoV-2 spreads, hundreds of case studies; just about every spike/red county in Ohio is traceable to weddings, graduation parties, bars and out-of-state travel.

Don't confuse revenue in with "wise" cost out on the other side of the balance sheet. But it does not matter. The playing field is preparing to change like we have never seen before.

Let's regroup at Halloween when all college sports in all conferences are suspended, most all campus activities including in-class instructions nationally (including in Athens) are disbanded, and winter sports are delayed indefinitely. We are about to lift the top of the Arc of the Covenant.
