In the Morehead State game thread, OU_Country mentioned Dartis' progress toward catching Nick Kellogg. I responded there but felt this deserved its own thread.

According to my research below, hes only 24 made threes behind Kellogg for the Ohio lead and 43 behind Nate Navigato for the all-time MAC lead. With 19 games left he would need to average 1.26 per game to catch Kellogg and 2.26 per game to tie Navigato.

The Ohio career stats page for Dartis doesnt show his freshman year stats. Here's his career stats from sports reference and ESPN, as well as the all-time MAC list from sports-reference.

Interestingly enough, both Navigato and Jaylin Walker passed Kellogg last year.

If he breaks both records, it will be extraordinary considering he missed last year and the line moved even further away from the basket.

I can't help but wonder if the anticipated lower shooting percentage of the longer distance of the three point arc won't be offset, at least partially, by the increased distance to close out on the shooter (more wide open)? I didn't look but I suppose there is already some trending evidence one way or the other on that.

Thanks for setting up this thread. One of the things I was looking forward to the most this year was seeing a focused, happy, and healthy Jordan Dartis. Regardless of whether he breaks either of these, that kid has been one of my favorites to ever come through The Convo. For me, he's almost impossible not to like and root for him.

Here's how the rest of the schedule does in defending 3s:

Akron 25.8%
Campbell 26.6%
Northern Illinois 29.7%
Western Michigan 31.8%
Toledo 32.0%
Kent State 32.4%
Miami 33.2%
Buffalo 33.8%
Ball State 34.9%
Bowling Green 35.3%
Central Michigan 35.9%
Eastern Michigan 36.5%

Akron and Campbell are top 15 in D1, NIU is 60th, WMU is 142nd, Toledo is 150th and Kent is 167th. The rest are bottom half of D1 (BSU, BG, CMU and EMU are in the bottom 100). After Campbell, the first five MAC games are WMU, BG, Buffalo and EMU twice. If Dartis stays healthy he could pass Nick by the end of January and have a real shot at the MAC record by mid-February.

Update: With the 8 against Eastern Michigan last night, Jordan Dartis passed DJ Cooper (274) and is second on the all-time Ohio 3 point FG list. He is now sitting at 277 for his career. That leaves him 13 behind Nick Kellogg and 32 behind Nate Navigato. With 16 regular season games and atleast 1 post season game left, he would need 0.76 per game to pass Kellogg and 1.88 per game to catch Navigato.

Edit: I didn't notice David DiLeo is just above Dartis on the list with 291. They will more than likely finish the season 1 and 2 all time.

By my count from last night's EMU game:

-This was the 15th time in Jordan's career where's he's made 5+ threes in a game.

-It was also the 6th time he's made 7+ threes in a game.

Just saying, Dileo has done it with 776 attempts while Dartis has only attempted 632. It would be a shame to see Dileo end up above Dartis but that seems the most likely scenario.

Assuming they maintain their current 3P FG per game averages (2.5 for DiLeo / 3.5 for Dartis) for the remaining 16 regular season games, they would have 331 and 333 respectively heading into the conference tournament / post season play.

It might come down to if one team goes to the CBI / CIT and the other doesn't.

Russ pointing out Arkley's article:

https://twitter.com/RussEisenstein/status/122222478827976...

He's got 287, so only three more to tie Kellogg, 22 to pass Navigato (though Dileo is closer):
https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/players/jordan-darti...

Also, it appears he's gaining ground on Dileo a little bit.

Dileo is not a guy who just goes off like Dartis. Jordan can catch up, but he's going to need more of those 5, 6, 7 threes made games to do so.

Selfishly, I wish we could see Jordy pass Nick at home, but I have to say hopefully that doesn't happen. We need Jordy heating things up and scoring from the perimeter to be successful. As much as I'd love to see the record fall at home, we need a win in the worst way. Knock down 6 tonight, Jordy, and bring home a W with the Ohio 3-point crown.

If he passes Nick at home, I'd imagine that doesn't mean good things given that the next two are on the road.

Jordy has a pretty good shot at passing Nick Saturday. MAC teams are hitting 34% of their threes vs BSU (NIU is giving up only 29.7% of MAC opponents' threes). But BSU may be really good at guarding the perimeter. In MAC play, they've held their opponents to the fewest 3-pt attempts per game (19.3) and the fewest made (46 in seven games; 6.6 per game).

Looks like you got your wish (unfortunately). I'm blaming you for one of these losses since you wished for this. ;-)

Talk about a thud, it was laughable to consider the possibility that he would not break it on this road trip but here we are. Glad I get to see it but wish the reason was different. Jordy now 10 for his last 45 from 3.

This should be the one where he gets back on track. Fiami is absolutely lousy defending threes in MAC play -- 42%, worst in the league; more than ten per game.

He needs to get this record and stop pressing. His shot selection from 3 on the road trip was terrible. You could tell he just wanted to get over it.

I would like to see us launch some more threes. I like that we want to attack but every team we've played have had some daggers and we just never have daggers (unless we are going against Murph Dog's wack zone). I want to see McDay launch and Brown. Springs, BVP, Rod and Darty all have green lights and they're not setting the world on fire so what does it matter in the long run?

What good is chucking a bunch of threes if we aren't very good at making them? Right now Ohio is 6th in the MAC in attempts and 5th in 3PFG at 34%, which isn't all that great. Ball State leads the MAC in attempts and is 10th in percentage.

Really Ohio's problem is not getting the best shooters in the best positions for shots right now. I would love to see Jordan put up 10 threes, McDay 6 and Roderick 6 but the defenses won't allow that. When Ohio has had open looks...like the Ball State game...they just haven't knocked them down.

After last night and his 7 trays, Dartis is now at 305. DiLeo only hit one 3 (an off balance deep crazy desperation 3 in the final minute), he now sits at 318. It was looking like the race was over, but now it is conceivable that Dartis could catch him with a couple more games like that. How many games each team lasts in the tourney will play a factor.

But again...Dartis has 711 attempts while DiLeo has 834 so even if Dartis can't catch him, I still consider his career from behind the arc much more impressive. DiLeo is quite the improbable 3 point king as a 6'8" forward, it surprises me he has attempted so many threes in his career.

Kenny Kaminski fit that type of mold, and averaged over 200 attempts per year here at Ohio.
