We would not be at this point in the conversation if you had just thought about how absurd your original comment was before hitting 'submit message'. The admirable choice would have been to recognize that you were incorrect. Instead, you are doubling and tripling down.

As far as Rourke, this is definitely not atypical. Two bad games in the opening four.

I will say it.
Don’t freak out - we’re fine.
I believe this team will win the MAC.
I don’t care if you’re with me or not.
I believe.

I have problems with our coordinators. Offensively, we had miss match's and didn’t take advantages. Shane Hooks was covered by #19 who is 5’9 and it took us until the end of the 3rd quarter to realize it. Our O-Line has yet to produce and we can’t establish the run game.
Defensively, I can’t understand how we would let them catch a screen pass for 5 or 6 yds every time they would line up in the same WR bunch formation. It’s almost like they didn’t watch film on these guys. Tackling is still poor and CB’s still can’t get their head around to defend against a pass.

Agreed. First, none of these games were in the MAC. Second, who in the East is even going to try and touch Ohio? Third, Ohio will not only get to Detroit, but will win it all once it does get there. Ohio is the best team in the MAC and will prove it from this point forward.

I think Buffalo would like to have a word. Ohio 2-7 at UB since they joined MAC. Lost four straight up there.

Ohio's defense might not stop Kent either.

I know the MAC East isn't anything special ... but after four games to just crown Ohio as champs is laughable. You obviously haven't watched very closely. This team has a plethora of issues that need cleared up ... and fast.

1-5 is staring them in the face if they don't figure some things out.

One thing that we all agree on is Ohio is not one of the top recruiting programs in the G5 like UCF, Boise and Cincinnati or even a top recruiting program in the MAC like Western Michigan and Toledo. My point on all of this is how could Frank possibly take recruiting to that level if he can't win the MAC Championship? Boise State won the MWC in 2014 and 2017. They have one goal every season listed in their performance center; win the MWC and win the bowl game. They don't have crush all OOC foes or appear in a NYD game. Its not about making the MAC Championship like Frank has done 4 times or making a bowl which any decent program can do but actually winning those post season games.

Most Memorable Bobcat Events Attended
2010 97-83 win over Georgetown in NCAA 1st round
2012 45-13 victory over ULM in the Independence Bowl
2015 34-3 drubbing of Miami @ Peden front of 25,086

I think we need to be more consistent with our play. Offense looked good against Marshall but bad against Pitt and Louisiana. Defense looked good against Pitt and in the first half yesterday, but bad against Marshall and in the second half yesterday. Special teams is the same story, kicking was great yesterday but missed a big field vs Marshall. Also muffed a punt yesterday that lead to points. We have shown promise in all areas but need to be more consistent if we want a chance for the MACC. Mac play offers a fresh start to the season. We need to step up and turn this season around.

Oh ... I wasn't questioning your faith that you believe they can win.

I too believe they can still win.

But OhioBobcat claim of "who in the East is even going to try and touch Ohio?" isn't a foregone conclusion like they're making it.

Buffalo might not be as bad as we thought? They thumped a pretty good Temple team. Kent is 2-2 and looks like they have a pulse.

Miami,BG & Akron are AWFUL. Yes.

But WMU, NIU are no cake walks ... nor is a road trip to Ball.

Ohio could go 5-3 and not win MAC East title as "guaranteed"

I believe they CAN ... but there are a lot of issues that need ironed out before we crown them.

1-3 is a disappointment. But it means zilch in the MAC. And game by game losses ...

Lose 10-20 vs. Pitt. Rourke with strep throat. Not a bad loss. Pit is 2-2 with losses to Penn St. 3-0 and #13 and Virginia 4-0 and #21. And Pitt beats UCF, ranked 15, yesterday.

Lose 31-33 to Marshall. They are picked to win their conference, a decent team with only a loss to Boise, 4-0, #20.

Lose to Louisiana 25-45. Worst game to date with 5 turnovers and 3 lead to 21 points. Louisiana is picked to win their conference and there one loss was Mississippi State, 3-1, whose only lose was to undefeated Kansas State.

Injuries to Ross and Allison at RB didn't help.

Kinda funny to see how plenty of supposed fans have bailed already.

I’ve had some of your same thoughts, but I was kind of hoping for at least 1 victory from those three games. We’re not playing good enough to beat teams that are good. All that is left is a hope to Winn the MAC. If that’s all that’s important to you, I guess that’s okay. I would like more.

Aside from Ohio I don't think another program in the East can do better than 5-3 in MAC play. That means 6-2 gives Ohio the East this year. Then with the best QB in the conference the chances are very good in Detroit and very good in a bowl game.

This. No one, I repeat, no one is going to finish ahead of Ohio in the East. Period. It really boils down to beating either WMU, UT or NIU in the MACC. OU will get a chance to beat both WMU and NIU in the regular season. Ohio also destroyed WMI in Kalamazoo last year and pounded on UT in the last two meetings. Put Ohio in a dome on a neutral field with any MAC team this year and I'm taking Ohio 10 out of 10 times.

I was hoping 2-2 at worst with outside chance of 3-1. We're 0-0 in MAC so the season starts now in a way.

I applaud the optimism. But didn't folks say the same thing the last two years and Ohio laid eggs at Miami & Akron.

Ohio can go 6-2 ... but the cakewalk you describe to Detroit isn't as yellow brick road as you're making it.

Find a way to finally win at UB and find a way to finally win a homecoming game and I'll feel a lot better. Right now I could see this getting sideways on them in a hurry

People keep talking about last year. That means nothing right now. The inconsistency we have shown so far should give nobody any certainty that we win the east. But then again, hope always springs eternal in bobcat land.

Agreed. Those are three solid team (two on the road), mean nothing in the MAC standings, and are all much better teams than any team from the East that Ohio will face.

Things that give me hope that the MAC season can be salvaged and made successful: Examples of poor play that may be transient - turnovers, dropped passes, very poor decision making on punts, poor route running, missed blocks, poor tackling technique. Those things have the potential to be cleaned up. The concerning part is that the list is long and the team has 2 weeks to take care of those issues. In addition, injuries healing and our young receiving corps gaining some game experience should be helpful.

Things that make me pessimistic: Seeing our guys lose the battle at the line of scrimmage (on both sides). That is not so easy to fix. Improved communication may help there, as well as a generally lower level of competition in the MAC.

This season will take us nowhere in terms of national recognition. A MAC championship is still a reachable goal. We were all pretty down at this point of the season last year also, but the team was able to make some very positive strides as the season went on. I believe that the loss to NIU and the debacle in Oxford loom larger than ever, as last year's team was stronger than this one.

The title of this post reminds me of this scene from Animal House, and this was my first reaction when I saw the final score from Saturday (safe for work). Remain calm....all is well.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zDAmPIq29ro

I'm disappointed, but my hope for this year was one thing and one thing only. Win a MAC title. I will be very disappointed if we can't do that with Rourke at QB, just like I was disappointed that we couldn't do that with Tettleton.

Not a great way to start the year but now the season starts.

Not long after that they jumped down a garbage chute. Seems similar to this season and this thread. ;)

This was quite a stroll down memory lane.

Interesting to see those who kind of saw this coming (raising hand) .... and those who thought the MAC East was sewn up in August before they even put on pads.

You are who you are ... and Ohio was the same team all season.

Wildly unpredictable on offense and a somewhat utter train wreck on defense.

And they'll finish 5-3 in MAC East
... and once again, not win it. Why? More November tomfoolery.

Hmmm ... think I read something like that in this thread back in September?
