Agreed. While their self-promotion may have ingratiated them to lots of people, the $2.5 million that he was paid was a very poor return on investment for OU.

Very bizarre that with all of this self-promotion that Saul never understood the value of twitter as a head coach and how it can help recruiting.

It's a tool that can be useful, but I wonder how much it really matters with recruiting?

For us, it's interesting that we're able to easily compare how inactive Saul Phillips was to how active Jeff Boals is. What I wonder about is how active most D1 head coaches are? It seems like Coach Brannen at UC is fairly active - more than Mick Cronin was. Mick was still successful obviously. Coach Holtmann is somewhat active for OSU. I don't pay attention to any other coaches, but I'd be interested to hear about some who are where it seems to help them recruit. My perception is that Coach Boals uses it to his advantage - but I don't know how much it influences decisions of players to come to OU.

The only real way of knowing how well a coach is using Twitter is to be able to see their DMs. What we see publicly really doesn't tell the story.

Thanks for a clueless message. Twitter and tweeting has little to do with recruiting. Some coaches are out 'doing' and not on social media.

Thanks again for displaying that you have the sense of humor of a brick wall. I do not think that Friendster or MySpace even exist anymore. It was a joke but I do hope everyone’s friend Tom is doing well.

As far as Twitter and social media, those are definitely important ways to communicate not only in recruiting but in business. It is an easy and efficient way to build relationships and stay in front of people, especially recruits.

I don't know what po is, but Twitter itself probably isn't ideal given the demographics in play here. Only about 30% of teenagers in the US use Twitter, and only 3% consider it their favorite social network.

The real recruiting opportunities are on Snapchat -- that's where the kids are. Plus, added benefit of it being basically impossible for the NCAA to police. Jeff Boals better be offering that kid from Ypsilanti 200k in cash right now, and he better have fake dog ears while he does it.

And I don't need any help. You get paid per post? Or just trying to pass Monroe?

Well, I’ll wait for you to find me a program that does not use social media in recruiting or promoting their program. You make the comment, now support it with facts.

While Twitter may not be the social media choice of teenagers, it is the choice of college bound athletes because that is where coaches, sports writers, and recruiting services play.

I'm actually surprised there isn't a recruiting-centric social media platform created just for that. Make it subscription-based and sucker a bunch of people with kids who have no shot at ever being recruited to pay $9.99 to chat with fake recruiters who are actually bots who just reflexively spew back things like "I LIKE WHAT I SEE FROM YOUR CHILD! THEY HAVE A FUTURE! JUST PLEASE KEEP PAYING $9.99 A MONTH! IT ALL DEPENDS ON THAT!"

I feel like Rick Pitino would endorse it for enough money and never be involved ever again.

Would this be an application of AI? Asking for friend in another thread. ;-)

I was reading an article about how little "reality" there is in "reality T.V."

I don't know about Househunters, but for shows like "Beachfront Bargain Hunt",you can't even apply to be on the show until you've closed on the
house you decide to buy on the show.

Also never knew that all the furniture on Fixer Upper were props.

I read the same article. We were on Curb Appeal on HGTV and it was real. Although they essentially only promised to pay $1,500 towards our upgrades. We had to submit a budget (ours was $27K). They supplied the designers and told us they would work with suppliers to try to get them to donate some of the material in exchange for product placement spots on the show. They ended up getting all the materials except the landscaping donated which was huge. We ended up only having to pay for the labor. The only thing that wasn't "real" was the host only showed up for filming on the last day. We had to keep a record of the clothes we wore every time we filmed so they could go back and make it look like he was there all along. We ended up hosting a wrap party on that last day because it was the last show being filmed in our area. I think it was being moved to Minneapolis the next year. Made sure I was wearing Ohio gear in at least two scenes. :)

My experience with reality T.V. was a bit different.

My wife and I got asked to do a Pilot for a reality show about professionals (doctor, lawyer, engineer, nurse, etc.)who ride roller coasters.

Sounded interesting,so we filled out the initial 4000 page (only a slight exaggeration) questionnaire.

Then came a phone interview.

After that they said they wanted to do a "test shoot".
But that required signing a contract.

The contract was something else.
One big thing, they have the right to edit any episode anyway they want.

It said right in it that the editing may present you in an "unflattering" manner.

Yea,that could never affect my business.
I told them I wanted the right of first refusal, before anything aired.

Apparently everyone they contacted felt pretty much the same way.

Got an email saying that no one they contacted would sign a contract,so they
canceled the Pilot.

My wife and I did appear in an episode of "Insane Coaster Wars".

No real surprise, they used actors/models for the front few rows.
They wanted what they called "camera ready" people.
The show requires multiple takes.
The actors and models weren't used to riding. So after 1 or 2 rides they had to "break".
Actually a couple of them had what they call a "natural occurrence" after
one ride.

There were also frequent stops for "hair and makeup".

At least we got breakfast and lunch.

Would have loved to wear something OHIO,but we could only wear solid, light
colored tee shirts.

I went to a wheel of fortune taping at Walt Disney world. it was heavily promoted as such on air.

I was a TCOM major and a Disney character in the Magic Kingdom at that time and wore a white Mickey Mouse t-shirt. they had me turn it inside out before being issued a seat.
