How so? Just curious. I know nothing about D2 basketball.

I think transferring rules are more lax. That may be part of what JSF was referring to.

Sounds like a win/win situation for everyone involved. I trust that Saul has learned a thing or two at the Division I level that might help him in this particular situation. I'll certainly be following his situation and wish both him and his wonderful family the absolute best of luck.

So you are saying the MAC is D-2?

MAC All-Freshman team

2019=Preston and VanderPlas

2018=Kirk

2017 Carter all freshman team and all conference later

2016 Dartis on all freshman team with Massinburg and wins all conference later

They make these guys in a stamping machine. You can get a different color paint job, maybe a matte finish, but you can't really get a different one.

Don't disagree, but let's not be too overboard on shaming some of our fans' annoyance at how this all turned out.

If the big splashy hire made at almost any other DI program turned out to eventually be a D2 coach, those would be the nicest things ever posted about that coach on their message boards. There would be a Deadspin story on how FORMER OHIO STATE COACH NOW SLUMMING IT IN NORTH DAKOTA followed by a belittling "I ACTUALLY LOVE IT HERE IN EXILE" profile in Sports Illustrated.

But they are labeled with "collector's item" on the box!

It's pretty sad how uncreative organizations/people can be. Ever since Clemson launched their "All In" motto/concept/whatever you want to call it, it seems like half the high schools in the country have started using it.

Same with the reveal a lot of high schoolers use on Twitter to share that they are "blessed to share that they will be continuing my academic and athletic career at _____________ University."

I think it would have been awesome if the AD would just walk up to the mic and howl as long and hard as he physically can. Then be like "what up, my wolves?!

The new Ohio AD simply needs to walk up to the mic and say "OU? Oh yeah!"

Househunters is impressive. But let me know when he gets on a food network show with Giada de Laurentiis and then I'll tune in for sure.

I am curious as well. What ways are dirtier? I know Jeff answered for JSF but I am now intrigued how it could possibly be dirtier than the stuff we have seen in DI the last 2 seasons.

I was reading an article about how little "reality" there is in "reality T.V."

I don't know about Househunters,but for shows like "Beachfront Bargain Hunt",you can't even apply to be on the show until you've closed on the
house you decide to buy on the show.

Also never knew that all the furniture on Fixer Upper were props.

I suggest Saul focus on becoming a better coach rather than a reality TV personality. Much room for improvement, to be sure.

Agreed. While their self-promotion may have ingratiated them to lots of people, the $2.5 million that he was paid was a very poor return on investment for OU.

Very bizarre that with all of this self-promotion that Saul never understood the value of twitter as a head coach and how it can help recruiting.

It's a tool that can be useful, but I wonder how much it really matters with recruiting?

For us, it's interesting that we're able to easily compare how inactive Saul Phillips was to how active Jeff Boals is. What I wonder about is how active most D1 head coaches are? It seems like Coach Brannen at UC is fairly active - more than Mick Cronin was. Mick was still successful obviously. Coach Holtmann is somewhat active for OSU. I don't pay attention to any other coaches, but I'd be interested to hear about some who are where it seems to help them recruit. My perception is that Coach Boals uses it to his advantage - but I don't know how much it influences decisions of players to come to OU.

Does a coach who is active on Twitter sway a recruit....no. But it certainly can't hurt to score some cool points with the recruits and their families. It's all about branding the program you lead. The fact that Saul never embraced it is very odd to me since he's not afraid to appear on reality shows.

Agreed. While not an absolute necessity it does give you another touchpoint with anyone you seek to connect with. It can benefit in building a connection/relationship with prospects, gives your fan base a glimpse into what you are doing/who you are seeking after and, in some cases, gives you a bit of the benefit of the doubt when anyone questions if you are truly leveraging all of the tools available to you.

I do wonder how many Twitter accounts used by coaches are actually fed by a ghostwriter.
