Does "The wilderness Campaign" ring a bell? We were 5-21 in 98. DIDN'T EVEN FIRE ANYONE!

I do not understand the venom on this board. Maybe I'm oversensitive to it, because I've found myself in a job where it wasn't working out, and I tried to make it work until the minute I was asked not to come back again, and that's what I see here. We've got a nice guy for a coach -- probably too nice -- and it's not working out and when the contract expires so does his tenure and yeah that's a crappy way for it to go but that's the way it went.

Perhaps it's a straw man argument, but everything else in this world is going to shit and y'all want to douse the nice guy in gasoline.

Look in a goddamn mirror and Muck Fiami.

Geez man. Calm down. I feel bad for Saul. I wanted him to be successful. I was probably at every home weekend game during the Wilderness Campaign.

Was really just referring to how bummed I am to go to our rival game given the state of affairs. Yes - F Miami all day.

Down 20 at half, Cats now down 6 and we have a ball game. Chat roomers have disappeared, here's betting if we lose many will be back at the end to complain.

GO BOBCATS!

Remember when Miami was the worst team in the MAC?
Remember when Miami was the embarrassment of the MAC?
Remember when Miami had a significant lack of "athletes" on the floor?
Remember when Miami couldn't beat Ohio?
That really wasn't too long ago.

March 5, 2018 (MAC Tournament)

Ohio 58
Miami 68
----------
February 9, 2019

Ohio 59
Miami 79

Just stunning how our roster can't match up with Miami. We made Bam Bowman look like Wilt Chamberlain out there today.

Part of Saul's downfall these past couple of years was also thinking DT was more than what he really is. In four years he never came close to developing an offensive game. I counted 5 missed layups today and a number of fumbles. No depth at that position whatsoever. Which reminds me, how are we looking next year with play in the post?

Hopefully some roster space opens up and the new coach can address that position on the floor with a JUCO big and significantly improve the overall athleticism of this program. Amazing how far Miami's program is ahead of Ohio right now.

i was watching the Rider game on tv this week before the Kent Akron game. they are not world beaters and were playing a conference foe with a losing record in a very tiny high school sized gym.

i actually envied both teams' athleticism.

pretty much sums up my current status as a Bobcat fan.

Simon Cowell of American Idol fame once said the reason he was so ruthless with awful singers was due to the wasted years and money many of those singers spent. He felt if he could get them into a line of work which more suited their talents and abilities, he would have done his good deed for the week. There is no leadership on our Bobcat team, the coaching staff, exhibited by Coach Phillips comments in the post game show, seems to be as exasperated as the fans and at a complete loss on what to do. Yet, that is the coaching staff's job. We have talked ad nauseam concerning how Coach Danny Nee, the late Coach Rick Majerus and the late Charlie Coles, did far more with less than talent than our team possesses. I am not sure if Simon Cowell is a sports fan, but he did have a good point with bad singers, perhaps there is a corollary with team leadership and coaching.

So you're trying to help Saul by recommending he find another profession?

Danny Nee had less talent than this team? What are you smoking?

BTW, it's possible Saul has won his last game at Ohio.

To my knowledge, all on this team--coaches, players, everyone--are good people. I am sorry for them things aren't working out. But as stated above, the talent just isn't there. I really wanted Doug Taylor to succeed. Central Ohio kid. Overcame serious injury. But he just doesn't have what it takes to help build a winning mid-major program. This is Saul's downfall. He's recruited good kids, but for the most part they don't have the talent to compete for a MAC championship.

I wasn't in the chat room for this game, too busy trying to watch the women and men at the same time, and I didn't really want to hear all the crap that regularly goes on there. I assume your prediction was true that the lynch mob was back by the end of the game.

Actually, full crow here, they never showed up and commented. A handful checked in but checked back out without comment. While the lack of the snarky, same old piling on and blame was a welcome development, I'm afraid it's another indicator that the program is at a low point. Chat Room has not been popular the last few road games.

Well, perhaps your post here was preemptive. Sometimes the best defense is a good offense! ;-)

Oh the 5 & 21 team of 97, Ohio's starting PG Corey Reed went down with a season ending knee injury at Kent the 5th game of the season and it was all down hill from there. Larry Hunter was the Coach, but the next 3 years Ohio won 18, 20, & 19 games. (Larry's 12 yrs he had 2 losing seasons) but it wasn't enough and Hunter was fired. Saul is a nice guy but he gets paid BIG $$$ for winning basketball games, compare Hunters salary to Phillips, its a huge difference.

Saul is just gonna have to walk his puppy in the park somewhere else, it just didn't work out.

Yeah Nee's no talent teams won 2 MAC Tournament Titles in his 6 years, Ohio won over 80 games in Nee's last 4 seasons as Ohio's HC. Then on to Nebraska not to bad for a coach with no talent.

Nee was loaded !!

Not sure how young you guys are so I am going to give you the benefit of the doubt. I am going to be polite as I can since I am sure I have forgotten more Bobcat history than you probably know. Coach Nee inherited very little talent. He built the program. Please read my posts more carefully and or study your Bobcat history. I was there for the games, and have posted extensively on them.

Not sure who "we" are when it comes to talking ad nauseam about these coaches doing far more with less talent than what Ohio's current team possesses. You have, perhaps, but not "we".

The talent on Nee's teams, save for his first year, when compared to Ohio's current roster is like night and day. The same is true for Majerus and Coles.

SBH if you watched any games in the early days of Coach Nee and saw the little talent that was left in the cupboard for him to work with and you think he somehow didn't build the program; you're right there is nothing I or any other mortal human being can do for you. Quite frankly, I am somewhat amazed that anyone would dare admit on this board that Coach Nee didn't build the program.

I never said he didn't build the team. But by his second year he had more talent than Saul has in year five. Don't put words in my mouth ; read your original post in which you claimed Nee did more with less talent than Saul. That's ludicrous. By the way, Nee won fewer than 10 games his first year. But you know that as you are the self proclaimed historian.
