Question, is that referring to me when you refer to the Ohio A&M mentality?

No, it was aimed elsewhere.

There is another poster on here with a name that combines something about the Bearcats and the Bobcats, but I can't remember the exact name. But, having a reference to UC in a name just does not evoke the same reaction among some of us that a name that references the Evil Empire in Cowtown does. UC never tried to steal our name! ;-)

Unrelated to the Bearcat/Bobcat discussion but does anybody know why “Hang On Sloopy” is the Ohio State fight song when the song is based on Dorothy Sloop a jazz singer who went to Ohio University. I heard this actually on Sirius/XM radio on the 60’s channel sunday when they played the song and I looked it up on Wikipedia and they confirmed it. Kind of a strange fact but apparently true.

Because they steal our stuff anytime and anywhere they can -- not to mention our name.  Did you know the song that has the lyrics, "Round on the ends, High in the middle, O-HI-O" was written by a former student specifically for Ohio University, but for years was used by A&M.  Fortunately, the Local Girls in Athens found out the truth about the song and have used it in their repertoire of Ohio University songs now for several years. The man who wrote the song was Frank Crumit, a native of Jackson, Ohio.  What's interesting about this is that he attended OHIO for several years and then transferred to A&M, where he graduated.  He also wrote "Buckeye BattleCry" specifically for A&M. So, A&M just assumed that all of the songs that he wrote that mention "Ohio" were written about them.

Here's an excerpt from the November, 1941 edition of The Ohio Alumnus that talks about this song and Frank Crumit's return to campus for homecoming:

Frank Crumit, '12x, New York City, nationally-known radio and stage star, introduced by the Alumni Secretary as "guest of the day," joined the band trio in singing his own composition, "Round on the Ends, High in the Middle, O-HI-O." The musical interlude was concluded with the band's thrilling arrangement of "Alma Mater, Ohio."

Frank Crumit, star of "Tangerine," "No, No, Nanette," and other Broadway musical comedies, is now, with his wife, Julia Sanderson, who was also a Broadway luminary, featured in the NBC quiz program, "The Battle of The Sexes."

Besides "Round on the Ends," Crumit has written another song for his alma mater, "OH And lO." In the accompanying picture he is shown (right) standing beside his portrait with the artist, James Montgomery Flagg. The portrait was painted for the famous Lamb's Club in New York City, composed predominently of actors and piaywrights, of which Mr. Crumit is a former president.

Years ago my wife and I met Ohio State's former band director,Dr.Woods, when they played at Cedar Point.

We asked him about Hang on Sloopy.

He said that,in the 60's ,a student repeatedly asked the Band Director to play it.
Apparently rock and roll wasn't his style.

The student wore him down, and he agreed to play it "once".

The rest is history.

Same thing, the first band to do Script Ohio was Michigan.

But,as Dr Woods pointed out, OSU takes credit for the first band to do "animated" script Ohio.

Horrible idea. Our Ad has passed on him twice when he was an assistant. And I agree. And his assistant Geno Ford is even a worse idea.

I would estimate that we will know the final, announced, outcome for Saul next week. However we won't know his successor till around NCAA Tournament time.
Something to look forward to.

Why do you think Jeff Boals is a terrible idea. He had not yet been a head coach last time he was considered for Ohio's job.

He has done a good job at SBU, going 12-4 in conf, play twice now, and 24-7 so far this year.

He has coached and recruited in Ohio, WV, PA, and NY . He has recruited and coached big men. And he understands Ohio and Athens as a player and coach.

I don't see what the objection to Jeff would be.

I fully support it as well. Not sure why anyone would take real issue with Jeff coming home. I keep hearing from some on this board that he maybe turned off some people the last time he interviewed here? I know nothing about it and can't add anything else to that discussion. But if that is the case...JS needs to swallow his pride. Boals went out and got his head coaching experience. I support Boals coming back 150%.

If we make a change, which I'm against, this would not be a bad choice at all, IMHO. Of course, I thought bringing Cleve home as a HC was a good idea, too. But, there is one difference, in that Cleve had never been a HC, only an assistant at that point.

I don't object to Boals as HC. But I keep asking, other than coming home to Ohio, why would he come? If he's making $375k now, he won't get a big dollars bump to come here, and we've all been complaining for two years about paying the coach the 550k he was getting, while assuming the next guy will make more like 450k.

Lastly, personally, I don't care about a coach that has recruited and coached big men. I want a coach that can recruit and develop GUARDS. Teams with really good guards win in March.

Someone on this board posted a note about Saul's contract and if we fired him prior to the end of his contract, May, we would be liable for additional compensation greater than the amount now due him through May.
If this is true and if Schaus was to fire him prior to the end of May then Schaus needs to go as well. PERIOD.

He's not getting fired. His contract is expiring and he won't be retained. There is a difference. He'll just collect a paycheck for two months.

Having a dead man walking around for 2 months would be of no use either (especially with recruiting), so pick your poison. They have to at least come out and say he won’t be renewed, even if they pay him his regular salary to sit at home and drink beer for 2 months while the program moves on.

Whoever said it in one of these threads said it right: it has to be a guy who is an absolute proven recruiter of the Midwest - Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Michigan, Kentucky, and nearby states. I don't care where they come from, or the 'pedigree'. And I'd require them to show me in an interview who their staff might be as it relates to recruiting.

Also, here's one name we can leave out: John Brannen. With NKU going dancin' for the second time in three years, he's going somewhere else bigger if he leaves NKU.

YES! We NEED a coach that can recruit Ohio and I’d prefer an assistant at a big school but I’m open for all ideas.
