What the heck. The Paw is the most generic, non-original logo in the history of American higher education. Every other high school in the country has some kind of a paw -- be it a kitten, a lion, a tiger or a rat paw. I cringe every time I see one of these logos. Even the darn Clemson paw looks high schoolish to me. AttackCat forever!

KenPom predicts a 61-60 loss or 45% chance of winning. Akron is very similar to Ohio in that they struggle offensively and are very good defensively. The Zips rank 247th in offensive efficiency averaging 99.9 points per 100 possessions. The Bobcats rank 317th at 94.6/100. Like Ohio, Akron does not shoot the three well. They shoot 31.5% (293rd) while the Bobcats shoot 30.4% (314th). However, unlike Ohio, Akron does not trun the ball over. They turn the ball over on 17.2% of possessions (68th) while Ohio is at 21.0% (299th).

Defensively, Akron ranks 37th giving up 94.6 per 100 and Ohio is at 58 with 96.4. Akron does it by limiting 2-point shooting (46.4% which ranks 41st)  and 3-point shooting (32.7% which ranks 108th). Ohio does it by defensive rebounding. They allow opponents to collect 23.1% of their misses which ranks 10th nationally.

The paw is timeless, classic, simple yet fierce at the same time. And it was still uniquely OU (variations from Clemson or Cincinnati etc.)

The fact that lots of schools use something similar is for good reason. It's a really nice looking logo. As they say, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

Alas the geniuses in marketing wanted to "stand out" when they switched to the Attack Kitten. Well, we stand out now - just not in a good way IMO.

Then again I think the same thing about the RedChickens logo now. Go back to the good old Redskins logo. That was a really cool, intricate and fierce logo. Of course Fiami would slink away from that due to social pressure.

Amen!

The Attack Cat Rules... and is great design.

It's hardly gone unnoticed.

https://blog.hubspot.com/marketing/best-college-logos

In the 80's, we had the classically boring and non-distinctive paw and the "bob-bear" for branding.

What's the story with Western Kentucky's fight song? Who had it first?

Well at least some no-name chick with a random blog on the interwebs likes our logo - so we've got that going for us. More than we can say about the on-court product.

Shoot, she even links to an article (referencing our very own BobcatAttack.com) showing how overwhelmingly students, alumni and message board posters favored the paw (75% to 20%).

As awful as the paw apparently was to some - even in this random blog post - she ranks the Clemson paw #7 for whatever that's worth.

Let's get back to the game. This team playing horrendous D today. Worst offender: Gavin Block.

I can't wait until this regime is flushed.

Game is over with 10 minutes left.

Why isn't Saul pulling the starters who are giving zero effort? Let's see some of his esteemed recruits.

Vander Plas? Vander Plas? Bueller?

This season needs to be over and the reset button needs to be hit. I’m sure the AD is already putting together a short list of candidates. This is the first season since 1989 in which I haven’t attended a home game. It just shows the apathy surrounding the program now.

I just hope some of the key returning players choose to remain with the program. There are a few players I hope hit the road.

There were so many on here talking up BVP in the pre-season that you would have thought he was going to be the next Thunder Dan. Another example of a player who continues to regress in this system. Since MAC play started, BVP is 12-44 (27%) from the field.

Recruiting is just abysmal.

Wow, the BVP stat is awful. He has been relegated to a 6 foot 8 spot up shooter.

Maybe FACTS will cause you to re-evaluate your negative post. Do you feel proud that you choose to criticize a 19 year old? He averages 22 minutes per game, 8.5 points and 5.3 rebounds and shooting just under 42% with 72% at the line. Not too shabby. He's in his first year.

Pointing out a stat is not ripping a kid. And if you listened to Saul post-game show he went out of his way to throw BVP name out there as someone who is struggling mightily. And yes...this is college athletics...we are allowed to point out stats. Check out the TKO-Meter and Presto-Meter if you want too as well.

I paid my way through my time at OU. I do not feel bad pointing to stats for a guy getting 20 plus grand a year to go to the college I love for free. And those that say we cannot rip Saul must make 500 plus at their jobs.

Here we go again....the sensitivity police out in full force. You must have really hated the Ohio game a few weeks back on CBS network when they had a graphic listing where every single one of TK's turnovers on the season took place on the court. The narrative on this site that you can't bring up stats to back up a college basketball player struggling is just absolutely ridiculous.

I'm sure you'd say to Vander Plas in person how bad he's playing, right? I'll repeat his stats are pretty damn good. Sorry you are unable to comprehend said numbers. And on yeah .. most players have a few bad games and go through slumps. Only thing ridiculous here is how immature you are as an apparently grown adult.

Jerry....he's shooting 27% in in nine MAC games. That's a pretty good sample size, not "a few bad games" as you suggest. Those are the facts and his own coach made it a point to bring his name up during the post-game show. If you can't comprehend this, I can't help you.

Yeah BVP was playing really well before the new year in OOC. Averaging right around 10 a game. Hitting 3s. I even commented that with our teams offensive ineptitude and struggles from beyond the arc that he deserved more playing time. But man, he's really struggled since conference play started.

He was still rebounding the ball really well - 11 against WMU and 12 against Ball St - but he just isn't shooting or scoring at all anymore.

Wish I knew what was going on with him.

Fatigue?

Mental?

Mechanical?

Careful Graff...you just questioned a player struggling on the basketball court since MAC play started. Beware of the "sensitivity police"....AKA as Jerry.

What a downer of a game. With the 50th anniversary, Red Panda, throwback uniforms and the buzz surrounding sibs weekend this should have been one of the biggest games of the Saul era.

And DUD. All the air sucked out of the room and Ohio looked completely unprepared going down 12-3. That was almost as bad as Tuesday at NIU.

Players have to perform but this one just seemingly didnt work from the start.

Third is the highest we’ve been ranked in anything sports related in quite some time, and don’t be so quick to dismiss it. Alabama counts football national tittles for being ranked #1 in the equivalent of Billy Bob’s Bait Shop College Football Weekly.

Yes on Clemson, but Clemson is, and has been, a national brand and if a green paw showed up in a graphic on TV, most would think it was an color error and never think of Ohio. Thanks to the attack cat you can live around he country and have a logo that answers the question... what school is that? In this regaurd, the paw was useless, except at homecoming.

The paw reaches a narrow audience that, other than alumni, barely gets beyond Athens County.

Good news, you can continue to enjoy paw products whenever it’s time for OU to protect the copyright and make some.

To the Groce haters, how many games in the power 5 will Saul be head coaching?

How’s the baseball team looking?

Some on here mentioned after the loss to Kent how it seems Ohio delivers a big dud when playing in front of a relatively large crowd. Then today, in front of the biggest crowd of the year, the Cats deliver an even bigger dud.

Good news is that Ohio has Tuesday off before facing a Miami team that has suddenly found its way, winning 4 of its last 5.
