I was impressed today with the play of Travis and Treg.  At one point in that horrible first half Setty had two assists in a row and then a driving basket shortly thereafter.  He literally kept us in the game at that point.  Wilkins continues to develop new aspects of his game and will drive to the hoop when he has an opening or shoot a pull up jumper off the dribble.  Last year he was primarily a three point set-up shooter.  i'm encouraged that these guys can take up the slack from the loss of Ricardo.

Travis has been a real weapon lately. Hope this is the new normal for him.

Treg's rounding into form, but I was amused at him biffing a dunk then waving for the ball on the next break.

Yeah yeah, good game guys, but can I get someone to edit video of Setty's dunk attempt with this audio? www.youtube.com/watch

Wilkins' play has changed my mindset of how many minutes he should be on the floor. I used to think he was the one player who got more minutes than he deserved.  The one downside I've noticed since Ric has gone down is when Wilkins is on the the floor with two other guards and has to play down low in Ohio's 2 - 3 zone. I can remember more than a couple times when the offensive player grabbed a weakside rebound with Wilkins on that side of the floor. I guess that's the trade-off for the points he's been giving the offense.

I heart Travis.  He's better than people realize.  I'd like to see him play 20+ minutes and handle the ball more.  He's very careful with the basketball.  And obviously, he can shoot.

in 3 league games Travis is tied with Maurice in rebounds.  His ability to be at the right place is not an accident.  Shooters sometimes have that "sense" of how the ball bounces based on the their innate sense and the number of reps they take in a lifetime.  The trade off is not as bad as it could be.

Good I would say - maybe not "solid". Travis needs to be able to get that 3 shot off quicker. Even when he gets the ball wide open and no one near him - quick defenders on him/in his face before he gets the shot off too often.

if you want to have some fun, go on espn3 and watch our game vs BGSU last year. Wilkens looked like he had never seen a basketball before, the difference is amazing. Good for him working hard and improving.

thought this was Setty's best game too. Still made some mistakes, but made some good plays too. Super job of working the ref to get him too not call a T on Kellogg when he slammed the ball down on the baseline in the 2nd half. worked him like a veteran.

I haven't seen too much of our games and hustle alone does not mean quality.  But it's difficult to believe that hustle and movement can be bad...and Setty hustles and moves out there.  To me, that's significantly what basketball is about.  Go Treg.   Wilkins seems not to make mistakes.

I was truly shocked that Kellogg didn't get the T on that.  That whole thing unfolded practically right in front of me and as soon as he slammed the ball in front of the ref I was certain the T was coming.  N'Dour also did a good job of getting Nick away from the ref and trying to calm him down.  It was a questionable foul call but a T at that point in the middle of a massive comeback could have been a momentum changer.

On the stream it appeared that the ref put his whistle in his mouth and got ready to call the "T" but then stopped for some reason.

my impression of the refs last night was that they had somewhere else they had to be and wanted to get this game over as quickly as possible and didn't want to slow it down by calling fouls. There were some blatant beat downs on guys driving in the lane without a whistle.

Reputations can be good and bad.  In this case, Nick's reputation of being a great kid appeared to avert a whistle that Coop or Stevie would have almost certainly drawn.

That's what made the foul call on Kellogg so bewildering.  He got hammered going to the rim a few minutes earlier and nothing was called, but then has one called on him when he barely touched the guy.  Really inconsistent reffing last night.

On the webcast it looked like Ndour leaned in and said something to the ref that caused him to change his mind about T-ing Kellogg.

I agree I like his hustle I just get frustrated because he makes some dumb fouls and picks up his dribble to much but I do love his energy. he'll fix his mistakes in time.

and right after he slammed it down. both Setty and Ndour rushed to get between the ref and Nick. Nick helped by not saying anything else after the slam, he just walked away and let Ndour and Setty talk to the ref.

Though Taylor, Kellogg, and Nature Boy stole the show today, I think Wilkins deserves some real kudos.  Whenever he was in the game, he made things happen and picked up many a loose ball.  In one sequence that happened right in front of where I was sitting he got a rebound, fired it out to a teammate who missed a three, he then scrambled to get the ball again fired it over to Kellogg (I think it was) who cans a three.  His game is so improved from last year that there is no comparison.  I think he should win the Most Improved Player Award hands down.  I just like his style of aggressive team-oriented play this year -- both on offense and defense.   N'dour, Taylor, and Kellogg are also very special players.  I just love the way N'dour plays and his "let's have fun" attitude.  In fact, I just love this whole team.  I just don't see much selfish play at all, and they seem to be really jellying as a team.  GO OHIO!

It's not just improved over last year. It's improved considerably from the first few games this year where he came out the same tentative guy we saw last year.   I don't remember the exact game he started to turn it on but I believe it was against Evansville.

Good point . . . though I think in those first few games he was somewhat improved over last year, but I agree that he had to get a few games under his belt before he had that quantum leap forward.

Wilkins is so underrated. He's been coming off the bench and adding a great share of rebs/assists in MAC play. Plus he's good for a couple 3 pt buckets. CRUCIAL guy in our rotation. He seems to have a knack for loose balls, as we saw today and against EMU.

He's been able to create his own shot with his pump fake recently. If he can knock down that 10 foot shot he creates off the pump, then that's huge.

Wilkins is head and shoulders better than he was last year. Both offense & defense.

Yep, defense too. I agree. He's stepped up.

Setty, though. Meh. Like his hustle & heart but I haven't seen anything from him this year.

OUr lads seem to be developing.  Say Bean and Campbell and Setty get somewhat better by tourney time--If so, how many other teams in MAC could match our good-player depth.

I like where we are headed.

Akron and Toledo can.

I like where Campbell is at. A few tough mins off the bench with rebs and a couple tip ins.

I think we've seen what Setty will bring this year - hustle, a couple rebs, and occasionally a couple buckets.

As far as a major impact, I'd look at Bean. I'm holding out for some good play from him.
