INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- On fourth-and-17 with 53 seconds left in a one-point game, Glenville High School quarterback Cardale Jones converted with a 31-yard pass.

On third-and-10 from the 15, Jones delivered another first-down throw.

On second-and-goal from the 2 with 11.9 seconds left, the 6-5, 225-pound Jones rolled around left end and bulled into the end zone to give the Tarblooders, ranked first by The Plain Dealer in Northeast Ohio and 22nd in the nation by USA Today, a 28-21 victory over No. 23 Indianapolis Warren Central on Saturday night.

"It was pressure, but it's a privilege to be pressured," said Jones, who completed 20 of 36 passes for 250 yards and two touchdowns. "My coach put the game in my hands and that's what I want."

Warren Central appeared to have worn out an inexperienced Glenville defense as it went 66 yards -- 54 on the ground -- with Deionte Buckley scoring from nine yards out midway through the third quarter to tie the game, 14-14. Glenville's Shane Wynn, however, answered by returning the kickoff 90 yards for a score, though a two-point conversion pass failed.

Warren Central got the ball back and easily moved 64 yards, including a 17-yard run by Anthony Davis and a 21-yarder by Buckley, to set up a 7-yard touchdown from Buckley. Nick Cassidy's extra point gave his team a 21-20 lead with 4:38 remaining.

But Jones threw or ran the ball on 15 of the 16 plays on the final drive. He converted a third-and-1 with a two-yard pass to Wynn and a third-and-3 with a six-yarder to Wynn.

Reaching the Warren Central 35, Jones was sacked on back-to-back plays, but that only set up his game-saving 31-yard pass to Evonte Dunn on fourth-and-17. Jones threw or ran on 51 of the team's 62 plays and accounted for 257 of its 300 yards of offense.

"He grew up a little more tonight," coach Ted Ginn said. "He falls down but he can always get back up. He's still learning. When his maturity reaches his talent he's going to be a super guy.

"We definitely wanted to run the rock. We don't want to throw it all the time but we had to lean on him a little bit today. We're still young up front. It tested our character a little bit but we came through.

"I was pretty much proud of [Cardale]. He brought it on."

DWYER PANTHERS

Coach: Jack Daniels

Record: First game (Last year, 14-1)

Team overview: Surprisingly, Dwyer won its first state title last season, beating Niceville 42-14 in the state championship. Daniels has now been the Panthers head coach for 15 seasons and compiled a 137-34 record. In 2008, Dwyer lost in the state semifinals to Tampa Plant.

Prospect history: Last season, Dwyer was loaded with blue-chip prospects like five-star athlete Matt Elam and four-star tight end Gerald Christian. Both signed with the Gators. Athlete Robert Clark also inked with Florida in February. Running back Donald Russell signed with Kentucky in 2009, while defensive tackle Jasper Grimes signed with Wisconsin in 2007.

Top prospect: You could make a strong case that tight end Nick O'Leary is the top prospect from the state of Florida. The five-star prospect is currently ranked No. 12 overall in the ESPNU 150 and is the nation's top-rated tight end. The 6-foot-4, 230-pounder can do it all at the position and is extremely athletic. In fact, don't be surprised to see him play running back this season. Right now, O'Leary favors Florida State, Miami, Alabama, Georgia and Florida. He's the grandson of golfing legend Jack Nicklaus.

New face: Defensive tackle Keith Bowers is emerging as one of the top defensive tackle prospects from south Florida. He has offers from Maryland, Marshall, and others.

Keep an eye on: Patrick Miller is a 6-7, 260-pound left tackle, who also plays on the defensive line. Miller is in the class of 2012.

Other prospects: Four-star outside linebacker prospect Curt Maggitt is another defensive standout at Dwyer. The 6-3, 194-pounder currently holds scholarship offers from a slew of schools like Florida, FSU, Miami, Alabama, Auburn, Georgia, LSU, South Carolina, Tennessee and many others. He has great speed and quickness from his defensive end spot. Three-star Jacoby Brissett is a big quarterback prospect at 6-4 and 220 pounds. Last season he threw for over 2,200 yards and 26 touchdowns in leading his team to a state championship. Brissett has scholarship offers from Boston College, Clemson, Miami, Illinois, Tennessee, West Virginia, Florida State, LSU, North Carolina, Notre Dame, South Carolina, USF, and others. Cornerback Darrell Hunter also has BCS offers.

Bet you didn't know: The school was established in 1991 and has already placed alumni in the NFL (Rashad Butler -- Houston), the NBA (Alonzo Gee -- Washington) and MLB (Hunter Jones -- Boston and Scott Maine -- Arizona). Ricardo Chambers also represented Jamaica in the 2008 Summer Olympics in the 400 meters.

GLENVILLE TARBLOODERS

Coach: Ted Ginn Sr.

Record: First game (Last year, 13-2)

Team overview: Ginn has built Glenville into one of the state's top programs in his 13 seasons as the Tarblooders head coach. Last season Glenville lost in the state championship to Hilliard Davidson 16-15. They became the first team in the history of the city of Cleveland to make it to the state finals. In 1999, Ginn led Glenville to the state playoffs, a first for a Cleveland Municpal High School team. They did the same for the next five seasons.

Prospect history: Over the course of three consecutive classes from 2002-'04 Glenville produced a Heisman Trophy winner (Troy Smith) and two NFL first-round draft picks (Donte Whitner and Ted Ginn, Jr.). How many teams can say that? The fact of the matter is that Glenville has produced as many big time prospects as any school over the past decade. Last year two stood out in four-star athlete Latwan Anderson (Miami) and four-star cornerback Christian Bryant (Ohio State). In all, Glenville had seven prospects sign with FBS programs last year. Over the past 13 seasons Ginn and Glenville has sent over 100 players to play college football.

Top prospects: Aundrey Walker is a massive offensive tackle prospect who stands 6-5 and weighs 355 pounds. He favors Ohio State and has a slew of offers from teams all over the country like USC, Penn State, Notre Dame, Michigan and Iowa.

Keep an eye on: As usual, the Tarblooders have some sought-after underclassmen with athlete DeAngelo Bentley, defensive tackle Alex Pace and linebacker De'Van Bogard. They are all members of the Class of 2012.

Other prospects: Shane Wynn is a speedy, quick receiver prospect with offers from Miami, Illinois, Indiana, North Carolina, Ohio State, Tennessee, USC and West Virginia. Linebacker Andre Sturdivant (6-2, 249 pounds) has offers from Penn State, Ohio State, Michigan State and others. Quarterback Cardale Jones is a big signal caller at 6-5 and 217 pounds. LSU, Michigan, Penn State, Illinois, Iowa and Cincinnati have all offered him. Running back Robert Walton, athlete Frank Clark and defensive tackle Antwan Crutcher have scholarship offers as well.

Bet you didn't know: Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, co-creators of Superman and DC Comics, both attended Glenville.
