He's 5'11", 208 lbs.

He's rated 73 by 247Sports (low 2-star):
http://247sports.com/Player/Dylan-Conner-80314

He's unrated by Rivals:
http://sports.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/recruiting/player-D...

Also unrated by Scout:
http://www.scout.com/player/8238555n-dylan-conner?s=73

And, not listed by ESPN. He has an offer from Ball State. Here's his Hudl:
http://www.hudl.com/athlete/1889768/dylan-conner

I'm guessing that he is one that was at a camp and who impressed the coaches.

It was Ball State that was taking players in Ohio's backyard like the quarterback that led them to the 12 win season in 2008. With LBs and linemen you are talking about guys who you project as your 5 year players so stars and ratings aren't as important as grades and upside.

Most Memorable Bobcat Events Attended
2010 97-83 win over Georgetown in NCAA 1st round
2012 45-13 victory over ULM in the Independence Bowl
2015 34-3 drubbing of Miami @ Peden front of 25,086

The below quote from the Fort Wayne paper stuck out to me. Does he love us or just like us...for now?

Conner said Miami of Ohio had also shown interest in him, although that courtship had quieted down recently. Western Michigan and Iowa are among the schools that invited the linebacker to camp.

Ball State was also tough to turn down.

“I love Ball State, but me and my dad talked about it and I chose Ohio,” Conner said. “It's a verbal (commitment) so anything can happen, but I am pretty positive (on the Bobcats).”

I'd guess if a bigger school offers him, he'll take it. It's not unusual unfortunately.

That's the culture of "verbals" in college football and hoops.

Guess that's the difference btwn a soft verbal and a solid verbal.

Schools sometimes back out on commitments too. And like Meyer some keep recruiting verbals to other schools.

Unfortunate.

Two good things stand out to me abt this young man: 40 time and academic performance. With his speed, it must be his height that has kept him from being higher rated.

. . . an example of how an early signing period for football could benefit the likes of Ohio.

Mr. Connor likes Ball State, talks it over with his dad and comes out committed to Ohio. Lots of good things stand out about that. Still may get the offer he and his dad can not refuse, but, beating Ball State at this point feels good.

Unfortunately, experience suggests that we not take any "verbal" as a real, hard and fast commitment. I look at a verbal as only a statement of preference at a given time. The only real commitment comes when the young man signs his letter.

1-2 verbals a year seem to change their mind and end up signing with someone else. While it's easy to remember the guys like James Walsh (where is he now, by the way) who change their mind, it's easy to forget that 90-95% of those that give a verbal to Ohio end up signing.

You are probably right, it isn't that many. I guess I tend to lump it all together, the commitments, transfers, graduate transfers, etc. In total, there really does seem to be more than there was a few years ago.

I gave Walsh a break because his dad had been transferred to the Boston area during his senior yr at Coffman and the family moved there after he graduated. As I understand it, the decision was difficult because he really did like Ohio. Never heard anything but good things about the young man. I believe he is still enrolled at BC.

Western Michigan has had 5 decommits already. Of course they were mostly 3 star guys who have now verballed to P-5 schools.

It could happen, but redshirting isn't a bad thing, either. It gives him a little time to get used to college, and make sure his grades are in order, plus getting bigger and faster. It's often better to have a 5th year starter than have a guy play as a backup as a true freshman. Solich will play him as a true freshmen if he belongs on the field though. Last year he played 8 true Freshmen.

Totally selfish on my part, but, the trade is Dylan @ 18/19 yrs old right out of high school for Dylan @ 22/23 yrs old as a RS Sr.

I agree. I'm just hoping the linebacker play can be a little more explosive than last season. Do you see Brunson playing end or linebacker?

If Seth Myers @ 230 lbs can be listed at safety, who the heck knows. Seems they would like to have a LB type familiar with the safety position. There are some big boys at RB in the MAC. Situations arise.

Pleasantly surprised by the video, Conner has grown from 185lbs to 203lbs and looks explosive.

Nobody despises to lose more than I do. That's got me into trouble over the years, but it also made a man of mediocre ability into a pretty good coach. Woody Hayes
