(From Cincinnati.com's Mike Dyer)
Ohio University offered Fairfield senior WR Herman Brunis on Monday afternoon, according to Fairfield coach Jason Krause.Brunis, who also has offers from Saginaw Valley State and Urbana, is 6 feet and 170 pounds. He was first-team all-GMC last season.

Brunis had 40 receptions for 716 yards and five touchdowns in the regular season.

I guess they must still have a scholarship open, and it seems that they made this offer after Papi White committed to S. Miss. Here's an article about him. Here is his page at ESPN (which reports a 4.76 40) and  Scout. He isn't listed at Rivals or 247Sports. Here is his Hudl.

He's not a burner, but he's not afraid to go up for the tough catch in traffic, and he catches underthrown and overthrown balls, plus he seems to be good at getting open when the QB is in trouble. He's not super tall, but plays taller than he is. He also does some blocking, I notice.

The Hudl video is impressive. If he is 4.76 on the watch, he is one of those who gets faster with pads on. Tommie Frazier was another.

I don't know. He clearly didn't have the kind of speed Papi showed, but, does he need that? He has good awareness on the field, and gets open, and he catches the ball, even in traffic. His QB didn't do him a lot of favors on some of those throws, just threw it up for grabs, and Herman went up and took it from the DB.

When it comes to receivers, there are more than one type. You have speedy ones like Cochran. You have possession receivers like Waters or Dunlop. Walker can fill the speed job, and Brunis or Meyer can be the possession receiver. Sure it's great when you get both in one package, like Brazill, but those don't come along every day.

He does a lot of things right on film.

Something must be up though...given how many D1 schools are in state, lots of teams must have kicked the tires and decided against it.

The question is did he attend an Ohio Football camp? If the answer is yes that will explain why he's offered because they liked the product before.

From the video it seems like he has a lot of good attributes. His timing looks very good when he goes up for the ball. He often catches it at its highest point. Like others had mentioned, he saved his quarterback often by coming back to the ball and catching balls thrown behind him.

From the video it looked like he had a great desire to fight for yards after catch. A couple of times his balance looked a little off, but you could definitely tell he had the desire and attitude to try to bust a play and fight for every yard he could get.

He looked like a decent blocker from what was shown. And it at least shows that he put an effort into it.

His speed isn't blazing, but it looks good enough to me.

I like him and I am surprised how little attention he has received.

If he goes to Ohio I think he'll be a good one and other MAC schools will regret not offering him.

Guess he ain't a 3-star guy...but again under the radar and one we hope develops.  what's new?  Does this mean some of our other wideouts are having second thoughts?

Having said all that, Fairfield is in the GMC which includes Colerain so he has seen good competition.

4.6/4.7 is more common than you guys think. If he runs that now expect AT LEAST .2 less whenever he actually hits game action a couple years or so from now.

Might just be another example of the Ohio staff out-recruiting the other guys buy hanging in there on a good kid that took a little longer to put it all together. Hard work + Dedication = Ohio Staff

On the other hand a player with 4.56 speed will also get faster.  To me the thing people have to remember is that  4.76 electronic is more like 4.56 hand timed. He has enough speed to be a very good WR, considering his other skills.

There's no doubt that for the better part of nine years we've been recruiting top of the MAC, MAC championship talent.

Wonderfully intelligent remark, bcat2.  Just what we expect from you:  Hiding behind a pseudonym, you generally trash me while not responding to an obviously legit point (if we keep recruiting best in MAC, why no best in MAC performance). Why do you even post if you're going to absolutely fail to engage in any reasonable debate or show any ability to consider for even a second that the coaches and team are not perfect.

bcat2, you probably don't understand my post since you have no grasp of the obvious:  People like you who accept the very mediocre status quo are what hurt the University.  People like me, who love the University and want to make it better, advocate reasonable change.

Monroe. You generally trash the football program. Your point about recruiting talent has been asked and answered over and over. True things have not fallen just right for you to have your precious MACC, but, to deny Ohio has/is recruiting well and that Ohio players are talented is something with which many here can not go along. Monroe, consider players in the NFL. From the MAC Toledo is first and Ohio is second. I propose this is a stronger argument for Ohio's talent than your MACC point against Ohio's talent. Again, we have been here before.

The good: He has good hands and good balance.
The Bad: He looks like a legit 4.7, 4.7 would be ok if he was 6'5" 220 but he is 6'1" 170. I don't see him getting open at the D1 level.

not excited about this. Hopefully the coaches know something we don't

I don't know why I interject here as I know better, but Monroe do you ever stop and think why you in particular are almost always involved in the petty back and forth on the board? Just as you tire of reading Bcat2's opinion and all the other "apologists" take, a lot of the other people here tire of reading yours which leads to backlash against you whether it be warranted or not. I don't personally disagree with all of the stuff you say when I can make sense of it, but good lord man I get tired of seeing it. Familiarity breeds contempt and you seem to have brought many to that point. I do appreciate your passion for OUr Bobcats but wish the intensity of it was focused on less frequent, more informed/informative posts.

The pseudonym thing has never really bothered me (my name is Devon Poling and is in my profile) as all information put on here should be taken with a grain of salt. Signing up under a full name doesn't really prove anything in this space without some validation of the name. We've seen plenty of false names over the years.

Allen, as for 40 times, it's the most abused stat out there and it's useless unless it's verified and electronically timed. I don't know which Brunis' is, but if he is truly 4.7 that won't hold him back from getting open if his routes are fundamentally sound. There have been very successful wide receivers at this level and the next who run a 4.7 40 or worse and not just the really tall guys.

Everyone wants better recruits which in turn we hope produces better results. I find it hard to criticize recruiting choices until it's all played out on the field. It's certainly easier to get excited about landing the heralded recruit versus the under the radar guy, however, once they step foot on campus the rating systems don't mean a thing. The only meaningful rating will be what they contributed in their time at Ohio. A 4 star guy who gets the boot in his first year is much worse than a 4 year unrated scholarship player who only contributes on special teams.

Uh, we don't get 4-star recruits at OHIO.  Few ever land at a MAC school (note I said "FEW"" not NONE)  Probably 1-2 a year including all MAC schools.

I'm guessing it's the height and weight.  You may recall that Cochran came in at 155 and did not have a ton of offers outside the mac.    Schools are unwilling to take chances.. Fortunately for us they did with Cochran who is now playing at 190ish or more and comments are that he has gotten faster even with the 30 plus pounds.

FWIW, I can only remember 2 actual 4-star recruits coming to Ohio, both of them Jucos. One was Chido Nwokocha, and the other was Boo Jackson, though if you go back to the days before recruiting services and stars, I'm sure that both Cleve and Snyder were "4-star recruits". When he was recruited, I argued that Lavon Brazill should have been 4 stars as well, and I say the same about this year's recruit, Maleek Irons, who has yet to be rated by anyone, and who will thus probably end up with a default minimum rating from all the services. Perhaps that's just as well - if he did pick up a 4-star rating at this point, some other teams might notice him and make late offers.

1. He runs good routes, so he will get open some
2. He is smart, and when the QB is in trouble, he finds an open area
3. When he is covered, he goes up for the ball, and takes it away, and holds on
4. He doesn't mind blocking

At this point he's just a offer as he hasn't accepted. I don't have any problem with the offer to him as I can see him being a useful part of the offense.
