I just checked out Mooney's Twitter.. Two guys he recently followed are Isaiah Robinson and Aaron Duckworth. I checked out the recruiting sites... Robinson is a HB from North Carolina. He has an Ohio offer. Duckworth is a HB from Florida. Rivals shows Ohio interest, but no offer.
No indication either has committed, but Mooney did follow our other recruits so we can hope!
Austin Proehl a WR from NC may be another name to watch. Or Greg White, HB from PA.. Both those guys have Ohio offers.

O mentioned WR Austin Proehl. He would be quite the catch as well (WR catch get it) but everyone on the planet thinks he's a lock for Wake Forest....son of great WR pro and Wake alum Ricky Proehl.

Proehl was underrated wide receiver on Nintendo's Tecmo Super Bowl for the Cardinals. And he's the reason the Rams made it to the Super Bowl.

8 for 8 Ohio guys so far . I know you should get the best you can get, regardless of where they're from, but I personally think having kids from instate helps Ohio in lots of ways.

I agree that the Ohio recruits are important because they help to build an identity as "Ohio", plus they help to build fan support and attendence down the road.

Defense is also doing very well, but could still use more speed guys. I do want a DT, and a MLB, but I'd also like to see another OLB and a couple more DBs. None of these are essential, however.

I never expect the end results to match exactly what I think the need is, but this class is sure shaping up nicely. At this point the only position where there is an absolute need that must be met is Running back. I like both Daz and Dorian Brown, but sometimes running backs get hurt. You really need to have at least 4 of them. The way this class has been coming in, though, I'm thinking that a quality RB or two will look at this class and say "I want to be a part of that".

As we've seen in the past, it is not uncommon for players to switch positions once they get here, even to the other side of the ball. Get good athletes and the coaches will find a place to play them.

With the latest additions the class continues to look great. I'd love to see Chris Murray and Trae Clark (from the 2012 class) back from Juco, to really boost this class. Add in a big RB and another QB on offense, and a couple linebackers and two more DB's, and the class would be perfect from my perspective.

A coach told me 15 recruits a few days ago. I did not think to ask about J.C. transfers.

There's always a couple guys who keep it pretty quiet and it takes a while for the news of their decision to come out.

Western Michigan and PJ Fleck going the Temple route and taking more commits than allowable # of scholarships to hand out.

247sports reports them having 27 verbals right now. 13 3-Star guys. Somebody is going to get left out in the cold.

I'm glad we don't get into that practice.

Arkley's article today mentions that Solich says Ohio has 15 verbals. He also writes that Ohio hopes to sign Chris Murray and Trae Clark (original members of the 2012 class who went the JUCO route).

As long as we are in the MAC, becoming Boise is impossible. Circumstances have changed since Boise became Boise in last 8-10 years. Each year MAC falls farther away from power conferences...

Actually I see the exact reverse of that. Since the beginning of the weeknight games on ESPN, and the term "MACtion", recruiting for all MAC teams has improved across the board. You can see that several ways:
1. The number of bowl teams - It used to be that the MAC was lucky to send more than 1 or 2 teams to bowls. In recent years it has been more like 4-5.
2. The number of bowl wins - I think that in 2011, the MAC had the best winning percentage in bowls of any conference. They have not only been sending more teams to bowls than before, the teams have been giving a good account of themselves.
3. BCS bowl games - Not only was NIU actually in one, but other MAC teams now get serious mention of them (Kent and Ohio were both mentioned last year)
4. The number of wins over BCS teams - I don't have stats for this, but the MAC seemed to have an extremely high number of wins over BCS teams last year.
5. Sagarin's numbers - I don't quote these for accuracy, but rather because they aren't biased, and are easily accessible. By year, the ratio of the average MAC team/average Big ten team:
1998 - 73%
1999 - 70%
2000 - 79%
2001 - 82%
2002 - 82%
2003 - 83%
2004 - 72%
2005 - 78%
2006 - 77%
2007 - 78%
2008 - 81%
2009 - 81%
2010 - 79%
2011 - 84%
2012 - 83% (would have been 85% if U. Mass had not been added)

Note that these stats are skewed by a single really good team in 2003 (Miami), and the departure of Marshall for CUSA in 2005, and the brief stay of UCF in the MAC between 2002-2004. Since all the conference changes in 2004-2005, which severely weakened the MAC, the trend for the MAC is clearly up, and that is especially true the last few years. As the teams at the bottom, Akron and U.Mass, improve over the next couple years, this trend is likely to continue.

To my mind, the number one thing driving this trend is the increase in the number of televised games. Back in the days when only 3-4 games a week were on TV, there was a huge separation between the top 10 teams and the rest. Now there are so many games on TV that many more teams get exposure, and it has evened things up a lot, particularly for conferences like the MAC that used to almost never be on TV.
