Turns out he was the broadcaster for the '73 team.

I told him to come check out this site.

His Web site says "Cincinnati's legendary sportscaster offers his insights on the ever changing world of sports."

Ooooooooooooooooooooooook. I didn't know there was anything legendary about Ken Broo.

EDITED for very poor grammar.

He went to Ohio. Good enough for legendary.

I never knew he was an alum.  He was here in DC for a while.  At least we still have Leon Harris at the local ABC affiliate.

Hardly. Then we'd have to call Jay Mariotti legendary, and that ain't happening.

They should have a national coach of the week now!  That would be sweet.

Sounds like he is still a big OU fan.

I'll put Richard Dean Anderson and Ed O'Neill up there on legend status

Broo definitely shows his Ohio colors. When I lived in Cincinnati, we belonged to the same health club and he always seemed to have OU apparel on.

He was a color commentator for radio broadcasts.  Does that mean he worked with Dick Schorr?

Yep - Ken was here, alright, and not long ago at that. He's already fixed the error I mentioned in the post above only 50 minutes ago, plus he gave a major plug to this site. Kudos to Ken, especially for his sense of humor.

Here's another blog from his website about the Ohio-Miami game:

I never knew ol' Broo was an Ohio alum.  I live in Cincinnati and have always noticed he is the only sports guy to say anything at all about OU.  I always thought that was because his daughter goes to OU, I've had some classes with her.

I would love to hear his definition of "legendary". I certainly know there is nothing legendary about myself (unless you count suffering many unfortunate accidents as something that makes you a legend).

No offense was intended to you, Ken. To be fair, I haven't seen your work since I moved from Cincinnati in 1996. I guess I'm just more of a Dennis Janson guy when it comes to Cincinnati sportscasters.

Janson reminds me of a stuffy Redskin. Broo is alright in my book. Years ago I hit him with an email about recognizing the Cinci kids playing hoops for OHIO. He responded saying he was a Bobcat and set me straight on a few things. Good pimp in my book. A Bobcat is "a Bobcat" in my book. He has given us solid props this year which is more than most here in this town (including Popovich who is a Bobcat). The morning weather pimp on channel 5 is also a Bobcat who sneaks in a plug whenever possible.

I was surprised to see Cleveland's channel 5 cover today's announcement of the GMAC bowl.  WEWS is usually all O$U since they carry most of the games.  They've been pimping O$U since early summer with a "Road to a Championship" graphic whenever they talk about O$U, send the sports director to Cowtown for every game, live reports from the game, etc.

However tonight for about 1 or 2 minutes they showed video from the press conference and showed game highlights from the Akron game while they talked about the first bowl since '68, etc.  It was the 2nd story tonight.  They don't normally even show our scores unless we played Akron or Kent, and even then it's hit or miss if they show it.

Hey, he was the voice of the Bengals during some of the "lean" years. Now THAT should make him a legend right there. Glad to have you aboard, Ken!

I didn't realize he was an Ohio grad until I read his Ohio/Miami game blog a few days ago. But it all makes sense to me now.

In the early 90's we were in Cooperstown to watch one of the Reds go into the HOF. It was the night before the induction ceremony and we were standing by the stage where they make the speeches and had a cooler of beer with us. Ken was finishing his live remote spot on the 11 PM news. When he got done, my buddy said "How's it going Ken?" Ken pointed at his beer and said "it'd be going better if I had one of those." My buddy flipped him a beer. Keep in mind, this is after we've been out of school for only a couple of years. So the beer was either Milwaukee's Best or Keystone Light. Ken, unfazed, popped it open and chugged. Should have known he was an OUer.

I interned for Broo, George Vogel and all those guys at WLWT back in the late, late 80s/early, early 90s, during the Pete Rose fiasco. What a great Bobcat fan Broo was back then. (So was Thom Brennaman) Broo told me often that he wouldn't give a dime to OU athletics til it made a commitment to football. Well, since his girl is a student now I guess he's giving a ton of dimes to the school. Good work, Ken. And if you read this, Ken, I'm that kid who could eat more than any other intern!

Ol' Broo just showed the Bobcats again on the 11 o'clock news.  Mentioned Ohio got its first bowl bid "in nearly 40 years."

Broo's "good people".  The positive stories listed above don't surprise me in the least.  I hope he stays in the Cincy market for years to come, especially with Thom coming to town.  It might be time to paint the town green and white....

"It's up; it's over; and it's good."

I covered a Bengals/Colts game in the early 90s (Munoz retirement game) and bumped into Broo coming off a Riverfront elevator. I didn't know he was a Bobcat either.

We need somebody in media in Dayton like Ken.  We get zilch coverage in the DDN--a rag--and the TV stations--small town stiffs. Go Ken.
