Isn't Troy in TBurke's neighborhood?  Are they really better than the OHIO?

Cheerguy,

Under the hypothetical that we are discussing (Ohio goes 13-0), the likelihood of a C-USA, WAC or MWC tean also being undefeated is probably relatively slim.  So what I'm saying is that if we are the only non-BCS team that's undefeated, even given our relatively crappy schedule (BL please note), we would get the BCS bowl invite.

Do you really think that minus the congressional anti-trust talk that Utah would have gotten a BCS Bowl bid in 2004?  Do you remember all of the politicking that came into play toward the end of the season about how much weight should be given to human votes v. computer rankings and the indications that a "groundswell" was developing in favor of Utah?  Even then, the Utah AG accussed the BCS of anti-trust violation since the Utes were not in the so-called national championship game.  You just can't ignore the politics in this whole scenario.

Not to be a Debby Downer, but am I the only one that - if being objective - would take at least 10-15 of the schools ranked lower than Ohio in this list over the Bobcats in a head-to-head matchup?  Considering the state of our running game, some of these teams (Texas A&M, Georgia) might even win by double digits in Peden.

If by 2004 you mean 2008, THEN I'd be fololowing you.  In 2004 the national champ game was between an undefeated USC (although victories since have been vacated) and an undefeated Oklahoma team.  Utah while undeafeated didn't feel cheated out of the BCS title game.

In 2008, a 1 loss Oklahoma team went to the BCS title game to face a 1 loss Florida team istead of Utah, who was undefeated, getting the go ahead.  Utah finished 6th in the BCS standings, behind 5 teams that all had 1 loss. THIS is when all the anti-trust stuff came into play on a national level.

That same year, had Ball State ended up beating Buffalo for the MAC title, Bal State STILL would have not made a BCS bowl, despite being 12th in the standings prior to the MAC title game, because of Utah.

Notable games for Utah that year:
@#24 Michigan (25-23)
@Air Force (30-23)
Oregan State (who had just knocked off USC the week before) (31-28)
#11TCU (13-10)
#14 BYU (48-24)

Notable games for Ball State that year:
Navy (35-23)
@CMU (31-24)
@Indiana (42-20)

So no matter what hypothetical situation you want to throw out, due to the sos and playing the the MAC there is NO way Ohio makes a BCS bowl this year.

Like it or not a 1 loss Boise, TCU, or Utah, possibly even Fresno State gets a nod before Ohio does.  The ONLY way Ohio makes a BCS bowl game this year is if they run the table AND a BCS conf. champ (mostly likely the ACC Champ baed on recent trends) has somewhere in the neighborhood of 5 losses (Last years champ had 4).

Cheerguy,

You are right, it was 2008 that the Utah AG threatened to sue the BCS.  However, I still believe that an undefeated Ohio football squad in 2010 would go to a BCS Bowl game.  See the sage comment by our very own Certified Pigskin Analyst, in another thread.  Since this hypothetical is not likely to happen, we will probably never know who is right.

You are forgetting--and while I am entirely making this up, I still believe that it is significantly true--the great good will out there for the O-H-I-O.

If we go 13-0..big big big if..there will be a popular outcry in favor of yOUr BOBCATS.

Little Debby, if we don't have a running game, we're going to have problems with a majority of the teams on our schedule, many of which you'll find on the list by wearing out your fingers scrolling down ... down ... Downer.

I just can't see a Frank Solich team without ANY kind of running game......Frank may just suit up himself.

Doc, I've been wondering for two years what kind of angst Coach Solich might -- or MUST -- be having.

I think that's fair, but I think that's only because Ohio can be just as inconsistent as any other MAC school. But, I could just as easily see Ohio winning a home game over the likes of Georgia or Texas A&M. It just depends on which team shows up.

Remember, Ohio gave Tennessee one massive scare last year.

This woman is a breath of fresh air.  It looks likes she's actually trying to evaluate teams on their individual merits (quality of players, teamwork, coaching, etc.) rather than automatically giving teams a boost because of the size of their fan base or the conference they play in.  That's very unusual in such pre-season predictions.  In other words, I think she is trying hard to be objective.  Look at her rating of Middle Tennessee.  I think that proves my point.  In terms of Ohio, I do, indeed, hope that she is right!  I wonder where Ohio State will be ranked by her.  Can't wait to find out.

Go Ohio!

Unless, of course, BL, we beat the Evil Empire and run the table.  That would no doubt bring a BCS Bowl.

I love the cats as much of the next guy, but where do you people get this stuff?

Boise State had a much better records against much stiffer competiton from 02 - 05 (they went 47 - 7, only lost 2 times against thier own conference during that stretch) and managed to win a couple bowl games before getting to the Fiesta Bowl in 06.

Thier worst record during that time? 9-4 (7-1) in 05.

Ohio would need several perfect or near perfect (read one loss) seasons, against better teams then Wofford and VMI, before we were even considered in the disscussion for a BCS game, let alone actually making one.

It would probably depend on how good Ohio State turns out to be. As much as the BCS would like to exclude Ohio in this scenario, if Ohio State would by chance win every other game, it would be hard to exclude the Bobcats.

But for the most part you are right. I could even envision a scenario where Ohio goes 13-0 and Ohio State finishes 10-2 and the Buckeyes get a BCS at-large bid over the Bobcats. Wouldn't be fair, but it woudln't be surprising to turn out that way.

Of course, speculating that far into the future right now is sort of crazy, but then again, I guess that's what this thread is about.

If Ohio State goes 10-2 with one loss to Ohio, they would probably be the automatic BCS big for the Big 10.

I think we will have a very good season, maybe the best in 40 years, but post-season I think we all know that our choices of Bowls come down to three.

From Monroe's perspective, that's close enough!
