All looks pretty good. I'm just a little surprised that WMU didn't get a better opponent, given they have a win over Pitt, the ACC champion.

Never, at least for MAC teams. The QL Bowl was supposed to be vs a B10 team, but B10 didn't have enough eligible teams to fill all its spots once they got a team into the playoff. They had nine solid bowl commitments this year but only nine eligible teams. Still, 7-5 WMU gets what amounts to be a home game vs an 8-4 Nevada team that beat Cal this season. WMU also beat both MAC division champs.

BTW, Nevada's coach, Jay Norvell, has been hired to replace Steve Addazio at MWC rival Colo St.

And to make matters worse for Nevada, their QB, Carson Strong, just declared for the NFL draft and will skip the bowl game. He's leaving two years early because he's expected to go in the first round. Their best receiver, Cole Turner, also has said he would skip the bowl game to prep for the draft.

Saw the last half of the NIU game. The turning point was when NIU went for it on 4th and inches around their 35 and didn't get it. They tried to fool the D by having Lombardi walk away from behind center then do a direct snap to a RB and run it UTM. Didn't really fool anybody. It might've worked if Lombardi had been behind a guard or tackle for blocking purposes but he was out past the TE and was really out of the play. Still, they had a chance to win it at the end but couldn't get their receiver out of bounds after a first down at about the Coastal five with two seconds left and no TOs. For some reason the ref stood over the ball and let the clock run out. Can't imagine that NIU would substitute in that situation.

I saw something like it earlier in the season in a Memphis game. There, the other team substituted with about ten seconds left, the ref stood over the ball as a Memphis player slowly jogged off the field and time ran out. The rules committee should make refs stop the game clock in a situation like that.

Watching the WKU game today. They would've been an interesting addition to the MAC. Coming up on halftime and they're pass/run ratio is 31/8.

The following is a statement from Mid-American Conference Commissioner Jon Steinbrecher

At the end of last night’s NIU vs. Coastal Carolina football game in Orlando, a series of errors by the on-field officials and the replay official denied NIU the opportunity to run one more play. Following the reception along the sideline, the play should have been stopped for a review. Also, the clock was not managed appropriately on what should have been the final play as the center judge should have been allowed to clear the center before the referee wound the clock. This should not have occurred and the egregious errors around a potential game-changing situation is both unfortunate and unacceptable.

Congratulations to the student-athletes and coaches at NIU and Coastal Carolina for tremendous seasons and a hard-fought bowl game.

Good day for WKU. The football team pounded App St for a bowl win and the b-ball team knocked off L'ville by ten. That part of the country needed something good to happen.

EMU was horrible, losing to Liberty by 36. The MAC is 0-3.

WKU would have been a horrible fit for the Mediocre Athletic Conference.

How many games will MAC teams win? I’m guessing 2 maybe Kent and Miami.

Too bad the MAC office is just mad and has no basis for complaint. The result of the play was a first down, which under 2:00 in the 2nd half will stop the ball until the snap. The runner fumbled forward OOB. The forward fumble OOB makes the game clock begin on the ready. Unfortunate, but that is the timing rule in college football.

Spoiler Alert - no one really cares if there was (or wasn't) a referee mistake (that did not directly take points of the board) in the something bowl played on some day a week or something before Christmas.

I guess you’re suggesting Steinbrecher should save any comments he has for the national Championship game? Really since there ends up being only one winner, all the other games just involve a hundred and twenty something losers too. So who should really care about them?

No he can comment - but there are few ears to listen - and apparently - according to Billy - his complaint isn't even accurate (shocking I know)

And in reality, as a result of the play-off system, most bowls do not matter - as evident by the players continuing to skip the games. Good for the players and core fans, but very few casual fans can even tell you what bowl games have already taken place and who won what.

So 5-10 players opting out means the games don’t matter when hundreds continue to play. Your argument makes no sense.

simply one indicator. We can talk ratings, difficulty in maintaining sponsors, player opt out, coaches leaving before bowl games, limited payout - often resulting in financial loss for universities, majority of tickets going unsold, even blocks made available to universities, etc. Again, to core fans and players its important (I love its when we make a bowl), but do others really care? Do we really care about the Jimmy Kimmel Bowl (yes it exists)

All this coming from probably the lone BA poster who watched the USC-Upstate v. Converse basketball game last week. . . "gotta get a life".

Indeed - I think 72 of us here in the Carolina's watched the game - 92 if you include the live crowd.

Wyoming 52-Kent 38 in the Spud Bowl. MAC now 0-4. Starting to look like 2013 when the conf took a big oh-fer in five bowl games.

Oh boy! Couple that with OUr 0-4 record vs non-conference including the loss to the Dukes and does that make us 0-8 by association?

Today, with Houston’s win over Auburn and Air Force beating Louisville, the G5 is 5-0 against the P5 in bowl games.
