It's also a $25 million stadium attached to a $40 million tower filled with empty suites. That's where most of the waste is.

One of my favorite Ohio stats from the Grobe Era: One year Kareem Wilson lead the nation in the category of "fewest passes attempted" by a QB. I'm not advocating going back to that extreme, but your point is well taken.

We did not attempt a pass the whole game at Akron in 1997. He only threw 54 times all year.

Love me some Kareem Wilson but, thankfully, he did not need to throw the ball. I vividly remember seeing his first pass attempt in Peden and screaming “Oh my God” aloud in shock as it wobbled and fluttered to the ground about 10 yards away.

I still remember one pass play we ran a few times, where the OL would open a hole so that the short Wilson could see his receiver and he'd then throw the ball to the receiver he spotted through the whole. It looked like a running play, but it was set up so the short QB could actually see downfield. It was funny as heck to watch but did result in some ten yard pass completions. The only other way he could pass was to roll out so he was out of the pocket and could see downfield. But, these kinds of plays only worked because the defense was never expecting a pass because we attempted them so infrequently. And, most of the time they didn't work because Wilson always threw the kind of wobbly pass you describe. But, when we did complete a pass in that era some of us would standup and give a big cheer! It was like a big novelty.

My first trip to Infocision and it was a great day. Seriously. My wife, an OU professor, is from the Akron suburbs. We took the kids to the in-laws and headed in town for the game. For being one of the all time worst MAC programs ever, I'm surprised at how great the game day experience is. That's an A+ stadium. There was tailgating and a nice little scene on Exchange Street. Reasonably sized crowd. Very friendly. Browns PA announcer. Bummer that the fans and the city have such a terrible product year in and year out. Some schools would love to have that kind of infrastructure.

That infrastructure is carrying an annual 6+ million debt load.

Yeah, I get that. What I was more referring to was playing in the middle of a large town/small city with a built in television and radio market that is 18th in the country. With one of the newest (the newest?) stadiums in the NCAA. Akron *should* be able to really recruit and build. However, we know this isn't the case. The university is met with deafening indifference from the community. I've never really seen anything like it.

The TV/Radio market demographics are misleading, as they are combined with Cleveland. Akron does not have a television station. It doesn't really have a true news radio station anymore.

Cleveland media largely ignore Akron unless there's a big story. Some of the reporters/producers I've met act like they'd need to stay overnight in a hotel to come down here. It's maybe a 40-minute drive.

Cleveland media is all about the Browns, Ohio State, Cavs and Indians (in that order. Local collegiate sports don't exist.

You ain't wolfing. That could be a whole other thread. Not having your own television affiliates really does hurt your own identity. Dayton is to Cincinnati what Akron is to Cleveland in a lot of ways but it's at least far enough up the pike that it is its own tv market. Akron, and Canton for that matter, may as well be suburbs when it comes to tv. I believe you'll find that Akron is the largest city in the US to not have a single network affiliate of the big 4. Heck, even Lima and Zanesville have network affiliates.

These broadcasters keep saying we run the triple option. Are they dumb, or am I oblivious as to what the triple option is? My brain looks at Army/Navy for that, but am I missing us running it?

They…don’t know what they’re talking about.

Watching the replay again tonight, they also pronounce Solich as Sahl-ich.
