During the current lockdown, I have been been spending time looking at MAC schedules on the FBS website through the end of the decade and some interesting changes are afoot. Buffalo is adding UConn and Mass on regular basis and I wonder if a new eastern league may be on the horizon. Toledo and Northern Illinois have downsized their opponents in many cases while Western Michigan is really beefing up. Miami will have only one OOC game in Oxford each year. Kent State continues a horrific schedule through 2023 but surprisingly no opponents listed after that. I wonder what others think about the moves.

I’m not surprised about Buffalo scheduling UMass and UConn who I believe are both independents and desperate for opponents especially ,I would think , regional ones. I’m not so sure about a new league but that’s an interesting thought. I wouldn’t be surprised if Buffalo moved on from the MAC because it’s a bit of an outlier, just don’t know where they’d go that makes more sense.

I think some of it is to get more money games to make up for the financial hit from the pandemic. Akron has two "P" teams in three of the next four years. They have a two-for-one with Kentucky; home in '23, there in '24 and '26. Next season they're at Auburn and O$U; in '24 they're at Kentucky and S. Carolina. BG has two road games at "P" teams each of the next six years. CMU the same the next two seasons and NIU in three of the next six, with a couple of home games vs "P"s in two of the next six.

As for what Buffalo's doing, it could have something to do with costs as well. They have some money games at Nebraska, Wisconsin, Missouri and Minnesota that would require plane travel, plus home-and-homes with Coastal and ODU. But the other road games (Maryland, Army, UConn and UMass) are within busing distance. And by focusing on teams that are within a few hours' drive for home games, they might get more home attendance. It makes sense.

If there is a pattern to the new MAC schedules its do your own thing. Schaus beefed up the OOC schedule before he left. The light schedules Ohio had on the books helped with bowl eligibility in an era where normally it would take 7 or 8 wins to land a bowl.

Pandemic year withstanding 6-6 record is all you need to go bowling. Less to lose by loading up than previously in my opinion.

Most Memorable Bobcat Events Attended
2010 97-83 win over Georgetown in NCAA 1st round
2012 45-13 victory over ULM in the Independence Bowl
2015 34-3 drubbing of Miami @ Peden front of 25,086
