I didn’t look back, but I thought that preseason we had something like 11 preseason selections. Shows what happens when you don’t win. WMU had 6 first teamers to our total 7 all levels. At least Nathan won, I thought he should have won last year as well.

While I don’t put a lot of weight on these popularity contests, it may be another indication of how far we are talent wise from other MAC programs or just shows how much more respect you get when you win.

Six Ohio players down from nine in 2018, I believe.

One defensive player on the top three teams, not including the punter, is revealing how the season went.

There are several players who were second year starters on defense that did not make any significant performance jump in terms of making splash plays.

With some DEs going into their third seasons as starters next year, they need to be more effective in pass rush or the competition needs to open back up there.

I thought Jarren Hampton did a nice job overall for a first-year starter.

Keye Thompson may have been a candidate for freshman of the year had he started the entire season. I think he finished with about 50 tackles in only 5 or 6 starts. Future is bright here.

Dylan Conner showed more flashes of being good and making plays-maybe he puts it all together next year.

Nate Rourke, not Bellamy, should be the offensive player of the year. Bellamy had a good season and scored a lot of TDs but Rourke had more than 3300 yards rushing and passing and 33 touchdowns accounted for.

One guy I am gonna miss watching is DL Knock, third-team all-mac specialist. He did it the right way and got as much as he could out of the athletic ability he had.

That touchdown reception that he made against Akron this year was really the best of Ohio football (i know it was against Akron).

The play was well designed and executed. The alignment looked like an option to DL Knock's side which would be Ohio's tendency not only to run an option but to DL's side because he was one of the best blockers at WR. The defense bit and Rourke pulled up and hit a wide open Knock.

I love Knock, his TD against Howard saved our bacon in that one. I wish we had more explosiveness back there but Knock never fumbled as I remember.

I love Knock too, but he did fumble in a key situation against Miami or WMU.

Confirms my Thoughts and statements over the years. We do not recruit the best athletes/players in the conference. We get a few but in football you’ve got to have between 22 and 44 really good players To win a championship.

I love Louie, but other kickers had much better years. Of course he didn’t need to kick much because of our offensive productivity. Louies biggest problem is his inability to kick deep, hence Farkas kicking off.
We are likely to miss his consistency, but don’t know anything about the new guys.

Just a suggestion, cover up the names when looking at the stats and see who you would pick.

What did he win? He was first team QB ... but did not win Offensive Player of the Year like many on this message board so boldly predicted (or assumed)

Only 7 players total has got to be one of the lowest totals for Ohio in a while?

I think it's no surprise that only one of those was on defense ... more proof had underperforming that unit was all season. All due respect to Hagan, but I think that first team came a lot with name recognition? He wasn't the difference maker so many thought he'd be on a underwhelming unit.

He didn’t have the season we expected, but he did lead all tackles. (So they got past a D-line, linebackers, and cornerbacks) *Good luck on those crucial plays against Kent State he gave us the last 2 years. So name recognition, we’ll never know. I’m curious to see this defense without him next year. One thing I did notice, the quarterbacks didn’t throw much his way since his 2016 season. He needs to work on some tackling techniques, but I’m not counting him out. The energy he brought to this team, he’s definitely one of my all time favorites. Good luck young man

I actually think our defense will be better next year without Hagan. I think that there were times where the DBs just expected him to be back there in coverage with them and let some big plays go. I expect the Motleys, Brooks, Hampton, Drake and Hudson to clamp down. It will help to have Dorsa, Keye Thompson and Conner all back as well along with several key defensive linemen. Our D is going to be much improved.

Our defense will not improve until we learn how to tackle and cover better. Our tackling has been awful and our db’s never get their head around. We also need a killer instinct, we play to conservative with leads. Keye Thompson could be a monster next year, he needs to learn how to read a little bit better, however, he does have speed and he is a thumper.

Nobody despises to lose more than I do. That's got me into trouble over the years, but it also made a man of mediocre ability into a pretty good coach. Woody Hayes

Lots coming back on defense, and actually a lot on offense too really. It's just that all of Ohio's best players will be gone. Ohio should have more depth next year, and maybe that will make up for a lack of star power.

"Star power" on the roster (i.e. Rourke, Hagan) couldn't deliver a MAC title ... maybe a lack of it could help?

Ohio was far more talented the last two years and the results are nearly identical to this less talented roster ... a November meltdown and no East division title. Hmmm ... whats the consistent with these last three years if the roster isn't the same 🤔🤔🤔

“Maybe “ the thing about that is, They are “Two” people playing on one “Team”. I know they both start with “T” but it takes a village. They have both made a mark in history for us. I wish them, as well as the “ Team” for next year the best of luck. Go Bobcats

UpSan, I don’t see any facts to substantiate your claim that we have some of the best talent in the league? We may have the best coaching staff but I would say our talent level is just mediocre and has been for most of the staffs reign. Thus the results.

Best coaching staff???

What facts substantiate that claim? 4 MAC East Division titles in 15 years? 1 since 2011? Consistently coming up short in the worst division in college football?

Since then, every team has won at least one east title ... BG won three straight.

If this was best coaching staff, wouldn't you think that would translate to more success in that division?

Seniority & tenure doesn't make you great

Bshott, given the talent they recruit I think they do a pretty good job coaching. I am as critical as you when it comes to Winning championships. I think the biggest reason I have for not winning a Championship in the last 15 years is they do not recruit enough good players. Besides that, I said they MAY have the best staff in the league.

Solich coaches players up, but they don’t coach well the leads, and they don’t make adjustments well. We don’t really have a killer instinct.
