The current injury situation is somewhat troubling. There are only a few Bobcats listed as injury, but here's the list from Don's Best:
Steve Hayes - Center
Julian Ross - RB
O'Shaan Allison - RB
De'Montre Tuggle - RB

And, of course, true Freshman Walter Wilbon III is also injured. I thought Ja'Vahri Portis played well against Louisiana, one of the few I would say that about, and I'm not concerned about him being the feature back. For now, I guess he's the starter, but his only backup is Jonathon Barna. It wouldn't surprise me overly to see DL Knock or KJ Minter, or one of the backup linebackers getting some snaps at RB this week, just in case.

My understanding is that Tuggle and Allison should be ready to go by the time Ohio plays again. We certainly can hope so.

I believe I saw Jake Neatherton participating in pre-game warmups Saturday so hopefully he’s getting close too.

Does anyone know how bad Wilbon’s injury is? Especially with the injuries building up at RB I have been wondering if he might be able to contribute; perhaps taking advantage of the four game participation rule.

Oh, thanks. I had forgotten to include him. So, injured are Ross, Allison, Tuggle, Wilbon, and Netherton, who were probably 1-5 in more or less that order. Still, Portis was fine, but when you are down to the 6th string running back, you are starting to get remarkably thin at that position.

This is good news, indeed.

As if we needed even more confirmation how important AJ and Maleek were to last year’s offense.

P. S. And I further realize what an ABSOLUTE BLOWN OPPORTUNITY last year was. That will probably be the best Ohio team Coach Solich will have. That team, by the time of the Frisco Bowl, was just plain dominant (and that was WITH Rourke playing a subpar game in the bowl).

Why is Julian Ross out and should he be back soon?

I heard it was a shoulder on the radio broadcast. Didn’t hear anything on the status of his expected return though.

Without a doubt it was. We were definitely the best team in the MAC at the end of the season. The last two seasons we had to lay an egg during MAC play. Hopefully, the team can regroup and prevent that this season, but there is a lot to overcome. I think a lot of the necessary pieces are in place. The coaches and team just have to make sure everything can fit together.

Definitely not taking anything away from AJ and Maleek, but our running game would be a whole lot more successful this year if we still had the two Joes on the line!

That's not good if the radio was correct. Didn't he have shoulder surgery in the off season?

Given his obvious shoulder issues, why did we have him playing on special teams??

My guess would be because he is one of the fastest players on the team.

Great, but he's extremely fragile. Reserve him for running the football.

Can he catch the ball and run routes? If he has trouble staying healthy, maybe the right move is to put him in at slot receiver and see if he can be the Papi replacement we're all looking for.

I agree, he is our fastest player and would be great in space. If Buckner cannot secure the position andball, Ross would make a great slot receiver.

Nobody despises to lose more than I do. That's got me into trouble over the years, but it also made a man of mediocre ability into a pretty good coach. Woody Hayes

Speaking of injuries, if you look at the article about Miami up today, they had to sit out half their starters for a Sunday practice after the OSU game. Wow. Maybe they’re just soft -cough cough-, but this may show what happens when you play out of your class.

+1

Once they stopped using Papi at RB, he stopped getting hurt, and started to produce. I like the idea of using Ross the same way, if it fits his skill set.
