Good Morning Bobcat fans,

I値l be making the trip for the game and was curious if there are any tips for tailgating. Is the stadium on campus, is there any events you have that should not be missed? Are there any local restaurants that I should go to?

I think this will be a very good game and for us will be an indicator of how our teams season may end up.

I really don't know much about Ohio football this year beyond your record and schedule. Judging from that, as compared to Louisiana's performances so far, I would expect this to be a competitive game between two teams which will contend for their respective conference titles.

The Cajuns are very run oriented, and are deep and talented in the OL and at running back. Not counting the Texas Southern game, they have run for 570 yards on 84 carries Our passing game is really more an extension of the run game, as most of our completions are relatively short throws. We have not been very effective on deep routes.

The defense is a work in progress, particularly up front, whewe we are very young. We do appear to be improved from last year's defense, but that isn't necessarily saying much.

What should we expect from Ohio?

For Gameday, I'd go here for info/parking for tailgating: https://ohiobobcats.com/gameday/FB/Main

Peden Stadium is on campus. Local restaurants I'll leave to someone else who is more knowledgeable - but I'd suggest checking out at least one of, if not all three local breweries. Jackie O's is the most prominent, but Little Fish and Devil's Kettle both make great beers as well.

"Ragin' Cajuns" is the best mascot in College Football...behind the Bobcat that is. I am really looking forward to this match up.

Thanks we (really) like it as well. Technically though it is our nickname, not our mascot. Don't even ask about our mascot.

Jackie O's brewpub and public house are the closest bars to the stadium. Get there as soon as it opens because it will be packed. They have a taproom as well just a touch off campus but opposite direction from the stadium, so not exactly good walking distance. Devil's Kettle, I'm told, specializes well in the lighter, easy drinking stuff. Keep in mind that this is Parents' Weekend, so most restaurants and bars on the main drag will be busy all day

Quarterback Nathan Rourke is the straw that stirs the drink. He is easily the best quarterback I've ever seen at Ohio. The true definition of dual threat. Every drive he led against Rhode Island ended in points. He was ill against Pitt and it was apparent as his running dynamic was not attempted. He returned to form against Marshall. Despite some key graduation losses to skill positions, if Rourke is on, and he usually is, the offense is grooving.

Our defense gave us a change against Pitt, but tackled poorly against Marshall. We have not been that great in pass rushing thus far, so we have forced few mistakes from opponents. Against Marshall, it appeared that we were trying to strip tackle instead of form tackle and it definitely bit us. A good up the middle run game could open other options for your offense.

Strong special teams play, toughness and disciplined play are the constants each year under Frank Solich. We are usually not prone to self-inflicted mistakes, and that has pretty much been the case this year as well.

The Ragin Cajuns are a very good football team who will give the Bobcats all that they can handle. They are a very well coached team who will be as much of a challenge as Pitt and Marshall, or as tough as the best teams in the MAC.
We will need to improve defensively or it could be a long afternoon on that side of the ball. They will challenge our defense by running the ball right at us like both Marshall and Pitt had success doing.
Should be a close game. Go Bobcats!

I dont put much credence in the transitive nature of wins. I do agree that it should be a tough matchup for both teams. It appears that Ohio is suseptable to a strong running attack, and Louisiana leads the nation in rushing... but Louisiana has been hurt by teams with mobile quarterbacks, and Ohio has one of the best in the G5.

It may boil down to who protects the ball better. The Cajuns turned it over 5 times in a 10 point loss to Mississippi State, but only once since then. Ohio has only turned it over three times. Neither team does a good job forcing turnovers: 3 for the Cajuns, 1 for the Bobcats.

I am predicting a score similar to your Marshall game: close and fairly high scoring. It should be one of the better games this weekend in the G5.

Agree with Vermilon.

If Ohio's defense in the middle against the run doesn't improve, the Rajun Cajuns might be running it up the middle all day. I figure we will bring in our linebackers close to help on the run. That should open up the short passing game for Louisiana, so it could just be a matter of how well they execute that.

OTOH, Rourke may have a huge day. Gotta hope for a couple big runs by the backs too.

Looking forward to the trip up to Athens this weekend. Can one of you tell me which sections are designated for the visitors?

I think this will be a really good litmus test for Ohio just like Marshall was last week ... with one glaring difference ... this game is at Peden.

Ohio has quietly won 10 straight and 15 of 16 at home. (I'd lost that bet a million times over)

Ohio put themselves in position to win last week ... just like they did against Pitt. They just couldn't come up with big plays when they needed them.

I agree with our Rajun Cajun counterparts ... I think this will be a high-scoring game played in the 30s. The team that makes the least amount of mistakes (i.e. turning the ball over) should win.

From Ohio's perspective ... this is a big one mentally. You don't want to drop to 1-3 and then have to stew about that before hitting the road to UB (always a hornets nest for Solich) and the come home to face NIU. Not trying to say the season teeters on this game ... but this is a pretty pivotal game that could set Ohio sailing into the MAC on a high note ... or spiraling into the danger zone (enter Kenny Loggins here)

Looking forward to a fun non-conference home game ... Ohio hasn't typically had a lot of those in recent years.

For our ULL faithful ... in terms of tailgating ... swing thru TailGreat Park across from stadium (grass lot) ... Ohio fans are typically friendly with the beer and eats. Usually a good cross-section of Bobcat Nation. I'll keep a cold one available for you if you find your way there ...

You should be able to get tickets in 102, 103, 106 or 107. Our season ticket sales in those sections has dropped off the last couple of years.

Computer rankings from last week are out and it shows you why OHIO is a slight favorite. Pitt is 1-2 but has played 2 Top 25 teams. Marshall played Boise State. Louisiana played Miss State tough but Liberty isn't rated very high. With this game in Peden it favors Ohio slightly.

12 Penn State
23 Miss State
24 Boise State
25 Virginia
55 Pitt
67 Marshall
77 Louisiana
80 Ohio
113 Liberty

Trey Ragas will play on Sundays...the other 2 RBS arent that far behind him.
I watched Ragas single-handily rush for over 120 yrd against Bama last year I really like the kid.

If we can stop the run we win easily if not it will be a LONG DAY.

Many of us believe Mitchell is a better pro prospect than Ragas. That being said, the real reason for our rushing success is a mid level SEC caliber OL that is big, strong, experienced and deep. I will be surprised if the Cajuns rush for less yardage than Marshall did against the Bobcats.
But I also doubt that the Cajuns can hold your QB in check.
I expect there to be lots of scoring by both teams.
