AJ OUellette raised a lot of eyebrows of NFL scouts by earning Offensive MVP honors at a Gridiron Showcase in Fort Worth, Texas.

Here's the story: http://www.buccsfootball.com/history/aj_ouellette/gridiro...

I see a picture on the site of him being interviewed by an NFL scout. Nice! Good luck AJ!

Ouellette explained. "Then we had three days of full contact scrimmages where coaches put you in certain situations to see how you would react."

And Ouellette rose to each occasion as he showcased his ability to adapt to any situation at a moment's notice.

"Of course they had me at running back and I was happy that they could see how well I block and how I'm able to catch the ball out of the backfield," said Ouellette. "They threw a lot of different blitz packages at us and I was able to pick everything up because of how well I was coached by Coach Solich and Coach Albin at Ohio."

"I had several scouts talk to me for a long time," Ouellette said. "All of the coaches who were there said I was hands down the best player on the field, so I guess I made a really good impression."

The thing about AJ that always comes back to me is that as a walkon, Solich insisted he wear #45, the number Solich wore, and a number AJ never requested. To my knowledge, in all his years of coaching, that is the only time Solich has insisted that he wanted a specific player to wear #45. Think about that for a minute. At that point, AJ was still a walkon, and they hadn't even had a scrimmage yet (or they would already have had numbers). Whatever else you want to say about Solich, he has an eye for talent. Another example of that eye is the time he went to a high school game in NJ to watch an offensive lineman. He wasn't impressed with the lineman, but after the game he called back to his head coach as asked permission to make an offer to the RB from the opposing team, who was a guy named Mike Rozier.

I'm thinking AJ has a shot at getting drafted, and at the very least will sign a UFA. He's an excellent running back, but also, he's a great blocker, and a decent receiver. Someone will give him a shot. Making the roster it tougher, as we've seen with outstanding players in the past, but if anyone can go from walkon to an NFL roster, it's AJ.

I hope he gets an invite to the east west shrine game. I was reading some the build up to the game and AJ stood out the whole week. https://cgsallstar.com/2019/01/nfl-draft-eligible-seniors... /

Ouellette said of his time at CGS, “Sun up to sun down everything had something to do with football. Everyone there really wanted to help and see the athletes do well. It was overall a great experience and I learned a lot.”

Nobody despises to lose more than I do. That's got me into trouble over the years, but it also made a man of mediocre ability into a pretty good coach. Woody Hayes
