Here are the bowl payouts. Seems like AAC isn't considered P5 with the dishouts of cash. My only question is with our $750,000 from Frisco...do we share that with the rest of the MAC?

From the article:

It’s important to know that every school doesn’t collect their winnings and scurry away to their home campus, though. Bowl game payouts are paid to each participating college football conference, which is then divided up to every school in that conference.

Wow! Sorry I skipped over that I guess. Roughly $63000 to each school for Ohio's win. Unreal! We are better off as independents!

I'm not sure it works that way. I may be a case of covering the school's expenses and then splitting the rest.

Only if we can work a bowl tie-in, which G5 independents generally don't get. BYU didn't have one this year. Neither did Army. Army got a decent bowl ($900,000 according to reports) only because B12 didn't have enough teams to fill its slots once Oklahoma got into the playoff. They could've gotten a bowl with a much smaller payout, or no bowl at all -- even with a 10-2 record -- if the conferences had filled all their slots. And, don't forget, we get a share of the other five MAC payouts this season and I believe the MAC eats some of our expenses, such as unsold tickets. Yes, we probably don't get as much as the Frisco Bowl payout, but it's better than we'd get on our own.

We will get by.
We will get by.
We will get by.
We will survive.

Pretty sure you are correct. Ohio had to come out of pocket in 2006 for the GMAC Bowl. Soon thereafter, MAC changed the rules so that schools were given a certain amount to pay for the Bowl and remainder got split up. I though of it as the Eastern Michigan rule at the time.

Yeah, I’m sure NIU thought the same thing when we collected 6figures from their success.

Was curious about the purse for the First Responder Bowl that was cancelled due to severe weather.

Looks like Boise State will get their payout, but not sure on the fine details-if they and BC both got half?

Wonder if the Mountain West will help the Broncos avoid having to eat a $25,000 pricetag on ticket issues?

The article fails to note that both teams (win or lose) get the payout. Or, rather, the conference gets that payout. So the MAC still raked in pretty big $$ (by MAC standards at least) despite the paltry bowl record.

Maybe they should start incentivizing wins?

Now this would take bowl games to a new level. Only winners get the payout. Games would be more competitive.

Although this is one or two years old, the amounts are staggering. In the section of G5, we have 83.5 million spread across all H5. If you click on reports it shows the schools within G5 that get monies set aside for performance. With the way UCF built their 25 wins....what P5 wants to schedule them on a consistent basis?

My other question is why does Notre Dame get 2.83 million. Regardless if they go to a bowl game or not? So the year before Manti Teos team played in the Nati against Florida State....they went 6-6. So they got $2.83 million for not playing in the Motor City bowl?

Would it?

You're a former player .... would you have played harder knowing your school stood a chance to win $500,000 for winning the Fill-in-the-Blank Bowl ... especially when you knew you were not getting one penny of that $500k?

There's really no incentive for the players to play harder in a bowl game. Until there are actual bonuses for the players, you'll still see guys sit out or players just flat look disinterested.

What I can say is when the Council asks for certain upgrades in the facility it would help. I dont have to monetarily-benefit from it. But the players after me will reap the rewards. Dontrelle Jackson and Snake Owens asked for black jerseys when I got there with Wayne Horsly. Then it fed in to the younger class asking Matt Morton. Then eventually it came. We asked for new lockers and a lounge for players. Those things came but we had to earn it. And now, bowl game practices are a little warmer in the indoor. Last years class was ranked 122 and this year we are an 85. Besides being the only MAC Team in 3 years to win bowl games in different areas and countries on national TV (recruiting), we could benefit a lot to pocket the conference earnings. Facilities and apparel upgrades are a "must" with this generation.
