Can someone explain how one can subscribe to ESPN+?
How does that work with Direct TV?
Thanks

It is completely streaming. You sign up online and watch online (and can stream to your TV if you you want).

Here's an interesting excerpt from the Wikipedia article on ESPN+. It sounds like most folks who have ESPN3 via a subscription to a cable company's ESPN offerings won't have a great deal of incentive to also subscribe to ESPN+, unless they are fans of certain specific offerings, like CFL or Ivy League football.

"The service will focus primarily on overflow content similar to that of ESPN's existing digital service ESPN3 (which is distributed to subscribers of participating internet and television subscribers), though some of ESPN3's content will be shifted exclusively to ESPN+, such as most Canadian Football League coverage. Its launch content includes boxing (with exclusive US rights to the Amir Khan vs. Phil Lo Greco bout, as well as archive content from ESPN and Top Rank's libraries), college sports events (including Ivy League events, with the conference having reached a 10-year media rights deal with ESPN prior to the service's launch), the PGA Tour Live service, coverage of Tennis Grand Slams, as well as international cricket (Cricket Ireland and New Zealand Cricket), soccer (including the English Football League, Major League Soccer, UEFA Nations League, and the United Soccer League) and rugby events (including SANZAAR tournaments, Bledisloe Cup, Currie Cup, Major League Rugby, Mitre 10 Cup, and the World Rugby Sevens Series)."

Sinclair Broadcasting is apparently launching a streaming app as well:
https://www.cnet.com/news/sinclair-broadcasting-reportedl... /

Most of the discussion that I'm seeing relates to the possible 24-hour news service that might accompany that. But I'm wondering if it will also include sports via Sinclair's ASN, which does feature some MAC games:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_Sports_Network

It remains to be seen if this is a free or pay service, or whether Sinclair will continue to broadcast ASN over the air too...

Gonna be interesting to see how the MAC is represented in this. As far as I can tell, you're gonna be lucky to be on ESPN3 from now on. Hopefully the complaints talked about during the Howard game are improved.

Two Power 5 opponents at MAC schools next week, both on ESPN+.

Kansas at CMU
Maryland at BG

If you're a fan of these schools (Kansas LOL...Maryland less so), how pissed are you that you have to sign up for a new service just to watch a road game at a G5 school?

Would really like to know how this is being allocated. Especially since the conference had a new contract before this was launched.

I was under the impression that if you had an ESPN cable subscription (i.e., you "paid"), you would still have access to the game.

I thought ESPN+ was for people who did not have cable access that would like to watch sports content.

Looks like I was incorrect.

I signed up for the ESPN+ free trial, but could only access the game on my phone, and not my ipad. I was also disappointed in the production of the game, which bears more meaning now because I've "paid extra" for it.

I noticed 2 issues; 1) There was no on screen down & distance for each play, 2) The announcers at times were drowned out by the crowd.
I would like to see these issues corrected for all future game broadcasts.

Tough crap for two Power 5 posers...I am an Ohio fan and not real happy about having to pony up for another subscription. I am passing on ESPN+. I'll go old school(sorta) and listen to Russ and Rob on TuneIn.

But if you don't have a cable subscription you won't be able to watch any Ohio games on ESPN, ESPN2 or ESPNU, including the streaming versions.

According to the schedule, the only other game currently listed to air on ESPN+ is the Kent State game.
http://www.ohiobobcats.com/sports/fball/2018-19/schedule

However, I could see them adding the UMass game to air there.

Disney finally found a strategy that I think will work for both cable/antenna and OTT. Once they bundle it with their Disney content/vault, they're going to be the second streaming behemoth alongside Netflix. And Disney isn't leaking cash all over the ground like Netflix is. I'd guess Amazon will be the third big company in that grouping.

All we've done is essentially re-create the major networks with a lot more crappy content alongside the good content. And now we have more bills to pay until Amazon or Apple buys out and bundles together multiple services.

The last 10 years have been kinda stupid in a way.

So it goes.

I was just thinking that the other day. I used to pay TWC a ton of money to have cable and internet, then I cut the cord with cable. After paying for internet, Netflix, Amazon Prime, and now Hulu Live...I'm pretty much paying the same amount I was before.

And this is why I haven't yet cut the cord. I haven't found enough cost savings to really justify it. (might save us $10/mo). And all I really watch are sports, motor sports, and car related shows/HGTV/DIY channels, and occasional movies.

ASN as a broadcast network folded last year: http://awfulannouncing.com/local-networks/american-sports...

It apparently has merged with Campus Insiders as an all-digital platform and now goes under the name "Stadium." As a digital platform they do carry some MWC and maybe CUSA games, but its mostly 1AA: https://watchstadium.com/schedule /

Same, cut the cord on cable from TWC and am just paying for internet. I'm all in on Hulu Live. I had one of the weaker models of Roku for Hulu Live, so bought a new one for $30. Changed my TV provider to Hulu in the ESPN app, signed up for ESPN+ and got the first month free. Picture and sound quality came in fine and no interruptions to my service. No complaints here.

Yes, ESPN+ gives you a 30 day free trial. If there are no games beyond the first couple on ESPN+, cancel it. In any case, it's both less expensive and better than the old MAC-Access streaming.
