Weirdo ;)

I've been carrying the same $20 in my wallet for about 9 months. Outside of going to bars in Athens, if I can't pay for it with a credit card, I get it from someone or someplace else.

Don't ever come to N.J. and breakdown on other then the Turnpike or Parkway.
Or have your car towed to an impound lot.
Most local towing companies around here are still cash only.
In fact,if you need a tow, some want the cash "upfront".

Gotta say, I thought we were much better than this. $66K ? That's it? Where's the party school I used to know?

Yawn.

There are other ways of getting a drink in Peden stadium, ways that don't require standing in line or dealing with the incompetent (and cash only) beer-vending system

One thing that might provide perspective on this number is how this compares or fits in with the overall concessions total. Is this a drop in the bucket? or did we just double our concession profit?

I know there are so many message board posters that think they are experts at different things, but for the university to only make $2.62 per beer sold really is disappointing. Who gives a vendor a 65% cut on that?

I truly believe that if BobcatAttack took this on, not only would we have a better serving system in place, we'd make more money for the university AND have enough to buy all of us soft pretzels.

Actually the vendor gets it all and then pays the University a % based on total sales at the end of the year. The more money AVI makes the higher % return on concessions sales.

I understand that. My point is that the university should have signed a contract with a vendor that can provide a better deal for the school. Selling beer at a college stadium is really not that difficult, yet there were logistical issues -- long lines, supply issues, etc. -- that affected profits. Palmer Fest is run better. No way a vendor should be getting the 65% cut on this.

AVI has the concession rights, OHIO Athletics cannot simply divide up it's products mid-contract. If beer was going to be sold, beer was going to be sold through AVI. Want to introduce turkey legs onto next years menu, AVI will be the one selling those turkey legs.

If they can't handle regular staples of concessions -- beer, coffee, hot chocolate, pretzels -- how in the world can they expect to handle turkey legs? You may know more about the contract than I, but based on AVI's performance and the percent cuts, this doesn't seem to be the best contract for OHIO Athletics.

Edit: Billy, I'm not directing any frustration at you. I appreciate your intel on this and understand it is the way the contract is set up.

Weirder than you carrying cash is the fact that you apparently don't have AAA. I broke down in Atlantic City three years ago. Called AAA and had my car towed to the nearest service center. No cash necessary.

I've made it 34 years without setting foot in NJ (aside from layovers at Newark). I see no reason why I'd want to break that streak.

I had a roommate freshman year from NJ who had a bad habit of walking around the room naked and trying to carry on a conversation with me. For that reason alone, I dislike NJ.

Did you see any cash in the vast empty spaces back there? 😎

Gotta say it was nice to drink a beer in my seat in the Convo and watch this young scrappy Bobcats team.

If I'm out of their service area and need a tow they use their network to send someone local.

So did your roommate pursue a career in politics or the entertainment industry ?

This has got to be the greatest sidetrack to a thread on why we hate the State of New Jersey.

New Jersey bashing you say:

I was going to post a series of the SNL videos featuring Fred Armisen as David Patterson (Gov. NY) ripping on New Jersey. On further thought, after reviewing them prior to posting, there are a lot of somewhat uncomfortable jokes made at the expense of blind people (which I had somehow forgotten about), in addition to the on-topic (and largely true ;)) ripping on NJ, and entirely factual jokes made about the utterly corrupt nature of NY politics. So I'm going to satisfy myself with reminding you that they exist and are hilarious (if cringeworthy)

Does New Jersey still have only full-service gas stations?

NJ gets a pass on just about everything due to it producing Bruce Springsteen.

Yea, unfortunately you still can't pump your own gas.

So even your example of why people should carry cash doesn't apply :)

FWIW, I had cash on me that day but I spent it all in Court Street bars. Didn't think I'd need to save any for Peden.

Also, regarding the NJ bashing: I'm going to make my own unpopular opinion known. NJ is a lovely state. From Cape May to the Pine Barrens to the Delaware Water Gap to all the cool little towns in between, it is really a jewel. It's a shame it gets such a bad reputation.

Have made two pilgrimages to New Jersey - both in the 1980s and on visits to Asbury Park.

One, in the summer of 1987 stands out. Springsteen was hitting the Stone Pony every Sunday night to join the bar's house band, Cats on a Smooth Surface, during a hiatus from touring and recording. He did this nearly every Sunday that summer, so an OU buddy and I made the trip one long weekend in July. Unfortunately, that was one of the few Sundays he did not show up.

I'm not so sure about that. Your body is going to metabolize out one beer per hour. If you tailgate or pregame at a bar for two hours and have 3 beers and then have another three at the game, that's six beers in six hours of which less than two will still be in your bloodstream when you walk out of the stadium. You might be a little more tired, but in no way are you legally intoxicated.

Whoa, Nelly! Please do a little more research on this. The metabolism of ethanol is a very complex subject. The rate at which your body eliminates it depends on a number of factors -- gender, body size, age, average ethanol consumption, health of your intestines and liver, etc. According to some studies the "average" person eliminates about 1/2 of the ethanol that reaches his or her intestines in an hour. And, depending on the amount of food in the stomach, and how fast the person's stomach empties (there's a good deal of individual variation here), it might take good part of the hour for the ethanol to reach the intestines. So, I would give the original poster the benefit of the doubt hr or she probably knows how much they can safely handle and is acting accordingly.

Actually,my cash comment does apply.
The comment about towing was in reference to out of staters.
Like I said,I'm a dinosaur,unless its a major purchase,I use cash.

I'm with you. The Jersey short is actually pretty darn nice. I think it gets such a bad rep because of Newark and it's proximity to NYC. :)

Never heard of the Jersey short . :-)

Newark has actually gotten a bit better.
But we still have Paterson and parts of Camden.
